Handheld entries typically come out during the summer. If Taiko comes out this year it will be a November release. That's why you can only really compare it to the home console versions.
ah didnt notice that pattern

it seems handheld versions are doing even better since they dont have the benefit of being near the holiday
lol

I think the reason Taiko Wii sold more than 100k is because the console attracted many casual customers at that time, and Taiko is one of those games that suit them, easy to pick up and play.

I could be wrong though
yeh this seems to be the case, same goes for the ds versions

it looks like 3ds versions suffered a bit due to psp/psv versions but i dont think that mattered much, the general pattern is big numbers for the initial version(s) and then later iterations on the same console drop in sales dramatically

one question, how many total 3ds units were sold up until a week before Monster Hunter 4 launch?
are u trying to compare switch mh numbers? then you'll wanna look at mh3 3ds sales week

3.234.299

switch will be at roughly half or at most 2/3 the install base by the time mh arrives

I'm not saying they have to as skip vita, just that I wonder why they limited themselves to vita.

You could also think the other way, why were there 3DS only games when they could have had extra sales from a Vita SKU?

Since you really don't seem to know, bar Time Travellers, Virtue's Last Reward and Exstetra there was almost no japanese game that was 3DS/PSV
These three games were single player only and two of them were released very early in the consoles lifecycle, the three also bombed (they're all <50k combined LTD)

I let you manage the rest of the thinking.

I kinda wonder what Nintendo would name a Switch successor 5-6+ years from now if it turns out to be a big success. They've never really followed a traditional naming scheme for systems that are direct follow-ups to previous ones (NES->SNES, GB->GBA, Wii->WiiU, DS->3DS). Could the Switch be the first time they actually just name it Switch 2? I mean I guess Super Switch has a nice alliteration to it.

Just please no Switch U.

I don't think the games bombed because they were cross-platform. There wasn't demand for them, either because they were unappealing or niche to begin with, not marketed properly, or bad products.

@Mpl90 Didn't have the time to post the dengeki yet, probably will get to it over the weekend.

Are there more infos / news about how is Arms doing at preorders in Japan? I know it improved on Amazon.co.jp, and it was a sustained improvement compared to its earlier baseline

http://www.rankbank.net/amaran/history/?date=17060315&cat=videogames&asin=B071CNRZZC

(You can see how things changed right after the first Global Testpunch round, on May 27th)

But its current situation on Comgnet is "strange": it's at 29pts, it didn't see that much improvement, if not almost nothing since the first session happened.

So, I wanted to see if there are more preorders impressions from different retailers in Japan.

ARMS probably will be much bigger in the west than JP.

Fighting games (outside smash) haven't been doing too hot in JP lately.

Did splatoon even get that many pre orders this close to release from comgnet.

Neither of those games got close to the same level of discussion that MH is getting now (or previously). I don't think he missed that at all, the situations just aren't comparable. MH has basically been dominating discussion for weeks if not months.

DQ and Persona both got weeks of discussions. Like I said, MH is a one of the biggest third party games.

wanna ban/avatar bet regarding mh coming to ps4?

Avatar bet, but lets get some more people in on it.

I remember how persona q is not canon as it is released on 3ds bruh.

PQ is the shallowest of all canons: entire story happened in a parallel dimension that everyone forgot lol

Oh, it took a while but ARMS went from 12th to 5th on New Releases in the hourly ranking on Amazon JP.

It wasn't immediate after the testpunch earlier in the day.

so do we know if the switch is still sold out everywhere in japan? amazon.co.jp doesnt seem to have it in stock (aside of third party sellers that are selling it for 40000 yen).

im curious how switch will fare in the upcoming months

we have Arms, Splatoon 2, Monster Hunter XX and DQ X (possibly FE Warriors) all comming out in a span of 3 months with some minor titles like fate extella or nights of azure 2

If you're only able to produce 27K Switches a week indefinitely, at some point you've effectively consigned your platform to poor sales.

Like imagine still being at this point in December. You'd be vastly below expected results.

It makes you wonder whether Nintendo didn't expect this thing to blow up like it did, so they thought the 2-3m available in March would cover the sales through until the likes of Splatoon 2 arrive in Summer?

Nintendo ordered a specific amount of machines to be manufactured for launch with a specific monthly amount thereafter just to supplement the 3m over the months if necessary, and then they had big runs scheduled for Splatoon 2 and the following weeks, and their typical big Holiday period amounting to a manufacturing schedule of 10m units between launch and end of March 2018.

I'd like to imagine that Nintendo and the manufacturers have agreed upon additional units being made now outside of their original order, but maybe scheduling conflicts or supply constraints re: screen, memory are slowing things down.

Nintendo is said to produce 18 million by the end of march 2018 though, so I guess we will see a (worldwide) increase in shipments very soon, maybe right when ARMS launches, maybe when Splatoon 2 hits, we'll see but it will happen eventually...

News has it, that they are already battling with apple for those 32GB Nand Memory units. They seem to be the same as in apples iphones and it doesn't help much that all the new ones come with 32GB (and most android phones are going that direction too).

Well. it depends on the case though. I mean lets said the most Switch we got in Japan is 30k a week but in US, they doubled the amount there. So it should be....positive thing too?

I've theorized that Nintendo have pulled shipments from May and June here to produce the bundles for Splatoon and Monster Hunter in July and August. Hopefully they can time their production surge at the same time and basically have a soft relaunch of the Switch.

What do you guys think about the decline of the 3DS by the way? Is it just a coincidence or are people no longer interested into that system because of the Monster Hunter Switch announcement?

Ohh... this relaunch will be anything but soft I guess, this will be the hardest relaunch in history!!! (I hope)

It's an old system and its successor has launched, not really unusual if you ask me.

I think you drew the wrong conclusion from the lower 3DS sales. It's just the usual lower sales in May. It's still selling a bit more than last year these past couple of weeks, which is pretty crazy for a console in its 6th year. It probably has nothing to do with Switch yet. PS4 is selling worse than last year though this May, probably due to the lack of popular new games releasing :/.

It's officially called the Nintendo Switch unlike PlayStation/Xbox which do not have their respective manufacturer in the title.

1m ltd at the least seems pretty reasonable no? there is plenty of time until mh5 and it'll keep selling til then, i dont think it'll have less legs just because the port is coming early

mh3p was at 4m+ when mh3g was released, mh for switch has similar gap for growth imo
mh3p hd was also released for the ps3 a few months before mh3g

i think the early release actually benefits mh switch since mh xx 3ds sold worse than it should have, indicating quite a few people holding off for the switch version

one thing that will diminish its sales compared to mh3g is that mh5 should be released next year instead of nearly 2 years later like mh4

mh3g is also an expansion compared to mhxx switch but i think people transitioning to a newer platform in time for the next sequel is the bigger factor in sales

Avatar bet, but lets get some more people in on it.
nah this is personal! me and u only

ill bet that ps4 wont get a same day release with mh5 switch, only a port later down the road if it even happens

there definitely wont be any custom western version exclusively for ps4

It makes you wonder whether Nintendo didn't expect this thing to blow up like it did, so they thought the 2-3m available in March would cover the sales through until the likes of Splatoon 2 arrive in Summer?

Nintendo ordered a specific amount of machines to be manufactured for launch with a specific monthly amount thereafter just to supplement the 3m over the months if necessary, and then they had big runs scheduled for Splatoon 2 and the following weeks, and their typical big Holiday period amounting to a manufacturing schedule of 10m units between launch and end of March 2018.

I'd like to imagine that Nintendo and the manufacturers have agreed upon additional units being made now outside of their original order, but maybe scheduling conflicts or supply constraints re: screen, memory are slowing things down.
they're still producing 3ds and was producing the nes classic, they had planned for 3ds to survive til end of this year just in case switch had a slow start

it's only been 3 months since the switch has been released so they've needed a little bit of time to get their production up

they've definitely been holding back stock, im guessing 75k-100k for arms week is a high possibility and then average sales, either 25k or 40k until splatoon 2 when they start unleashing stock at a high pace

Nothing too exciting this week in terms of milestones..

Looks like it'll eventually cross to 200K, but seeing its drops I don't think it'll get much past that :(.
17./06. [3DS] Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (Nintendo) {2017.04.20} - 2,711 / 191,567

DBHeroes Ultimate mission X looks to be hitting 150K next week
07./05. [3DS] Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission X (Bandai Namco Games) {2017.04.27} - 6,285 / 147,790

15./00. [PSV] Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 with Power-Up Kit (Koei Tecmo) {2017.05.25} - 2,772 / NEW
Seems similar to the PS3's version debut and much better than Switch's nonexistent one.

Titles nearing 100K. Both should cross it in the next couple of weeks.
18./13. [3DS] Mario Sports Superstars (Nintendo) {2017.03.30} - 2,533 / 96,665
28./25. [NSW] Super Bomberman R (Konami) {2017.03.03} - 1,935 / 97,068

Random update on RE7.
50./53. [PS4] Resident Evil 7: biohazard (Capcom) {2017.01.26} - 839 / 325,987

If you're only able to produce 27K Switches a week indefinitely, at some point you've effectively consigned your platform to poor sales.

Like imagine still being at this point in December. You'd be vastly below expected results.

I'd think the current sub40K is from the bundles and building up stock for launch weeks.

I really have no reason to doubt the multiple reports for upping production, question remains how long such negotiations will take to materialize.

By couple you mean two, right?..

Well I imagine the extra 0.74 million they shipped in March were meant to be April(and May)'s shipments.
thats spread over 3 regions and switch sold 600k by march 31st which is the exact number nintendo said they shipped up until that period

if anything it's golden week where they shipped more than usual since april had same stock each week, they're also holding back stock for arms and switching to bundles for splat/mh

I figured it was something about the last few weeks that was really painting our views.

The average is 40K (excluding launch and week thereafter), with the sudden drop after Golden Week/MK8D can definitely be argued to be correlated/related, with volume moving either westerward or into the week of (though week of transition doesn't quite support previous data where trends are roughly similar. (On the average, I also excluded the spike shipments on week 12 and 17, so the average is actually higher than what I am presenting here. Added second plot which is full weekly average comparison.)

They had a fairly consistent behavior in shipment/figures before the last three weeks post Golden Week. This suggests that this is not their normal production/shipment volume, and I think can definitely be used to err on the idea that (a.) they either burned a large amount of surplus, or (b.) are withholding volume.

Wait when did they say that?

Did the Switch version not chart?

Didn't appear in the top 50 of launch week so was less than 2769 copies (according to famitsu top 50)

Vita confirmed better for third parties, reign to continue for another 5 years.#Vitameanslife
