Wait when was MH for PS4 confirmed?

When was the PS4 launched? About that long in the heads of it most ardent fans.

I mean the PS4 probably will get a MH game, but yeah it is often stated that it has one confirmed and on the way.

Don't worry the majority of this thread will discuss the possibility of ff7r, kh3, resident evil, persona 5 and many more for switch for the next couple of years or more. They actually started way before the system was even revealed. It will only get better now...

We have come a long way from ridiculing people for even mentioning mh for PS4 to now atleast acknowledging the possibility of it happening. Progress!!!

Discussing possibility =/= Saying as if it's already confirmed

About the same as Pokemon Stars I guess.

Never realized that 4chan was as credible as Eurogamer until now!

About the same as Pokemon Stars I guess.

I'd much sooner believe that a Pokémon game is coming to the Switch than a Monster Hunter game (not Frontier) is coming to the PS4.

Even so, personally I don't include that game as a confirmed title for the Switch, as I need either a confirmation or irrefutable proof that it exists.

Come to think about it we have very little knowledge of how Setsuna did on Switch.

True, but it clearly did well enough for them to put the Sphear (uggh that spelling) on the Switch!

I legitimately forgot about it, actually, so add it as an addendum as it definitely falls into a bracket of Tales of and Yakuza-like sales if it makes that sort of performance.

This is not a thing, and if it reaches this point then it is very, very bad.

Well that's the thing, apart KT's Warriors, yearly Yakuza, and Square Enix, Japanese 3rd party developers making games for PS4 (and honestly even at all), are few and far between. Konami's out of the market, Capcom barely makes anything regularly outside of MH these days (and has everything underperform), Level 5 is absent in general all of a sudden, Sega is only really in with Yakuza + Atlus (and Sonic but lol in JP), Namco-Bandai continues to release some licensed games, and Square Enix is all-in but their bigger titles take forever (except DQ I guess).

The person that started the discussion around what else is there for PS4 discussed the possibility of capcom having a mh for PS4 at this point and my response was that capcom most likely has more than just mh. Not even sure why it bothers you and I wasn't even explicitly confirming the game. We have been discussing that game to death and that's the only thing that caught your attention from that post huh.

My bad wasn't looking at the post carefully. I thought people were down right saying MH for PS4 was a lock for 2018

It's fine. Plenty of people, including Vena and Sense are talking about "some sort of MH for PS4" as if it's fact. It's not fact and it's not too surprising to get confused and think something's been announced. It's still a rumor just as much as Pokemon Stars is until they're announced in some form or potentially have MAJOR leaks like Mario x Rabbids.

FF7r, kh3, resident evil, persona 5 and many more, All of those together do not equal the amount of MH5 speculation in media create threads. I can't speak for the rest of GAF but within these threads it's MH5 every week.

That said I also find both annoying. I hate when I read "I'll get Persona 5 Golden on Switch", or when a new game is announced the first post being "Switch? When?" as if it is inevitable.

I like comments like "It would make financial sense for Persona 5 to be on the Switch because... [Logical reason]" or "For a MH5 to be PS4 exclusive it would need to sell [number] to make up for the lost sales of a Switch version, Capcom could do this by [logical reason]"

That kind of discussion is both useful and interesting.

Dq and mh were the only "huge" third party games that were always in contention so of course that dominates conversation. Hori hinted he wanted to see the game on a big screen and eventually dq was confirmed for the platform. Capcom has said it sees handhelds as a limiting factor in growing the franchise in the west and people are just rightfully assuming it is going to be on PS4. Why wouldn't they? They are planning/releasing a lot of games on the platform and releasing a monster hunter could build an audience on the platform for their other games to succeed in Japan and no one is naive enough to think it will be exclusive to PS4. Either there is another game for switch like the rumors suggest or the PS4 version will be multiplat with switch. It is just mostly Nintendo fans that get up in arms everytime it is discussed as though the discussion is about monster hunter moving exclusively to PlayStation when all most are discussing is a version of the game on that platform.

Putting aside whether capcom are taking a huge risk or if the game will sell terribly, as a business they can't ignore the most popular console in the market outside Japan for their most popular ip. Did people question mh on Wii as much as this? They are going to roll the dice and if it doesn't work, they will go back to making handheld mh for the Japan market.

Yeah, I agree with this. I find it annoying when people assume a game will come to a platform, unless it's super obvious. I'd rather people actually generate a discussion and present a case as to why it would make sense for the game to release on Switch/PS4/whatever.

no one is naive enough to think it will be exclusive to PS4.

I think might want to read the old threads again. Many people were saying just that. That MH5 would be exclusive for PS4. There was just recently a massive (now locked) thread about it.

When talking about the franchise in general most people (both Sony and Nintendo fans) believed it would be multiplat (the rumor was 2 separate HM series) but there were still people who assumed PS4 exclusivity right up to the Switch announcement of MHXX.

Did people question mh on Wii as much as this?

YES. It was legendary. Genuine anger and feeling of betrayal.

speaking of the ps4, How have hunting games been doing on it?

We dont talk about them, nothing has been doing good on the PS4, is like releasing Grand Theft Auto exclusively to a Nintendo console without any other game doing well prior

YES. It was legendary. Genuine anger and feeling of betrayal.

That "exclusive" discussion in the locked thread was based on a rumor that also talked about a separate version for switch which makes sense. I should correct myself with the "no one" comment and add excluding blind fanboys

The question about mh on Wii was not about what people's reaction was which I am sure would have rattled a few cages when it was announced and people would have been having meltdowns. The point was that capcom decided to make a version for Wii even during the time when the portable series was hugely successful. if a system is successful, any business would try to put a popular ip on that platform to see how it does. Is it a smart bet? Who knows. Only time will tell. capcom knows mh is popular on handhelds, they know their past entries in console haven't been successful but they will keep trying whenever an opportunity comes across to grow the franchise or make it a global hit.

people change, habits change. All of a sudden people want every game on the go and are constantly requesting switch version but when the vita came out people were like why would I want to play console style games in a compromised fashion on the go..... at some point enough people will be curious to see what a fully realized monster hunter on a home console can be that might bring in new fans.

blind fanboys

Yes. There are blind fanboys on the Sony side. And there are blind fanboys on the Nintendo side.

And both are crazy annoying.

I don't have a problem with people having opinion or preference. My guess is that you prefer the types of experience Sony offers. Likewise, I don't hide that I enjoy Nintendo [though historically I have been a Sega and SNK fanboy].

But what we all must be careful of (and I am guilty of this too) is saying blanket statements like "All [brand] fanboys are [thing]!" It doesn't contribute anything to what we are doing. Especially in a sales thread.

Oh I should add, this comment isn't directed at you. Isn't even fully related to what you posted. Just something I am tired of.

Yeah, western games are suppose to be like the cherry on top of a sundae, they're arent a substitute for the ice cream (aka Japanese games).

Western games outsell many Japanese games, especially on PS4.

I mean after DQXI we're probably not getting a blockbuster this year from a Japanese company on the PS4 side. Perhaps Ni no Kuni 2 will do better than the first like Nier Automata did, I believe that was slated for 2017.

PS4 has done well with 1 or 2 BIG games a year.

2018 is still filled with possibilities, new hardware, etc.

Just off the top of my head for remainder of 2017:

GT Sport
Gundam Versus
Ni No Kuni 2
God Eater 3 (still have to see platforms)
DQX
Everybody's Golf
Dragon's Dogma
Little Witch Academia
Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker
Knack 2

I donno, seems like an ok followup to Dragon Quest 11 to me. Sprinkled into there will be the smaller titles announced in magazines.

And there's already stuff showing it's head for early 2018 like Code Vein and Dynasty Warriors 9.

PS4 software will continue to be strong till 2019. There's no replacement for the PS4 in the eyes of publishers, as no other console has the global reach.

Progress!!!

Reminds me of DQ all over again: "there's no way PS4 will get DQ" until Hori himself came out and hinted at it. Even then some did not think DQ11 would come to the PS4.

I see the same posters continue to refer to the 4chan rumour like its the basis for PS4 MH when in reality it was Capcom's very own words that actually gave it credence.

You must of missed the Persona 5 3DS discussions or the DQ11 theories. Big third party games will get this and MH is one of the biggest ever.

Neither of those games got close to the same level of discussion that MH is getting now (or previously). I don't think he missed that at all, the situations just aren't comparable. MH has basically been dominating discussion for weeks if not months.

so we have people believing MH5 will be multi plat(I think it will end up like this) and people believing MH5 will be Ps4 exclusive. But why ignoring another situation have a very high chance to happen that the series will simply transfer from the 3ds to the switch and that's it?

First Day Sell-through {2017.06.01}

[PS4] Tekken 7 <FTG> (Bandai Namco Games) (¥8.200) - 60%

[NSW] Seiken Densetsu Collection <RPG> (Square Enix) (¥4.800) - 50%

[PSV] Shiin <ADV> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) (¥4.800) - 50%

Unfortunately we don't know actual shipments, but those are theorically good first day sell-throughs for both Tekken 7 and SDC. Especially for T7, since its shipment should be quite larger.

Wow, Spike-Chunsoft just announced a sequel to their Attack on Titan game on Nintendo 3DS, logically covering the second season of the anime (just my guess, heh).

No release date, but it'll be out this year.

http://www.spike-chunsoft.co.jp/shingeki2/

First commercial to air alongside latest episode of S2 this week-end.

Sony showing Vita support in 2017! No idea that they were still going to publish a Vita game.

Actually no, Experience is the developer and publisher, GameFAQs were initially wrong.

Sony is focusing all efforts on next handheld that we all know is coming.

Currently the Switch is 110K behind 3DS launch aligned

If we expect 25-30K for weeks without big release, 70K for Arms we won't see the Switch overtaking 3DS until Splatoon 2 launch.

3DS was at 1.3 million prior to it's August price drop - I'd expect the Switch to be over 1.5 million after Splatoon 2 is launched. Splatoon 2 and MHXX launching July/August should very much allow the Switch to maintain >100K weeks in July and August.

Beyond the summer holidays it's just a question what type of baseline Switch maintains and how well it does in December. I don't see a reason why Switch won't replicate or even outdo 3DS's December. 3DS had MK7 and MH on top of a very attractive price but the library of Splatoon 2, Minecraft, MH XX, DQXI, SMO, MK8D, Zelda:BotW, Xeno, Skyrim, Fifa etc and the much more desirable form factor will ensure Switch's holiday could potentially be bigger than 3DS.

Once the price drop happened 3DS had a baseline of around 50-70K for the majority of the year leading into December.

At that point it's just a question whether Nintendo maintains 50K or 70K as a baseline for the rest of the year leading into December for the Switch after the summer holidays.
- >50K baseline, >70K smaller title launches >100K big title launches = >4.2 million in 2017
- >70K baseline, >100K smaller title launches, >150K big title launches = >4.5 million in 2017
- >100K baseline, >150K smaller title launches, >200K big title launches = >5 million in 2017

It's just a question of production/supply at this point.
The form factor and launch year lineup ensures at the very least the Switch will replicate 3DS launch year performance. It's just a question of by how much it outperforms it.
Compare the big titles and when they launched on the 3DS to the Switch the way Nintendo has spaced out releases will help them maintain a stable baseline without needing to resort to pricecuts.

I see. It would be surprising to see them publish a Vita game in 2017 when the last one was in 2015.

speaking of the ps4, How have hunting games been doing on it?

Not good and completely outperformed by their vita counterpart IIRC. Regardless of title, the genre is traditionally played on portable device (as the game design also adhere to it). If MH PS4 is real, I don't expected it to perform above 1 million.

We dont talk about them, nothing has been doing good on the PS4, is like releasing Grand Theft Auto exclusively to a Nintendo console without any other game doing well prior

But what about world wide sales?
