3DS up again, though.

Wii's new all time low, eh.

How does this RE compare to previous installments? (Console ones too.)

Difficult to compare, as this is the first time Mercs has been sold as a standalone title.

Perhaps cvxfreak could suggest which of the RE spinoffs it would be best to compare it to?

RE5 did ~319K on PS3 its first week, and ~80K on 360. But those aren't really fair comparisons.

I know it's not fair at all, but still interesting (for me) to see.

And thank you!

3DS picking up a bit! Nice to see. :)

Wii needs to be 10,000円. Should have happened ages ago. Saw some used in Nipponbashi for 9,000円, no wonder no one is buying new.

3DS is picking up, interesting. I'll be very interested to see what Ocarina does in Japan. Wii is dead, but we all knew that already. Vita will likely have monster opening considering the PSP in Japan.

Assume the same be true for Resident Evil: Revelations as well when it comes out. When it comes to comparing sales. The last normally controlled but non-number (also not a remake) is what Code Veronica X or would Resident Evil Zero be better since it was more of a prequel and not apart of the normal numbering scheme?

Well I would certainly hope so. These 3-4 weeks are like the biggest games they have until the Holiday season. :p

I think this will depend very heavily on what the game line-up is.

They're releasing in Japan first, and are willing to delay the Western launch to meet that date if there are supply issues, but have almost no Japanese targeted games announced.

They're either still hiding their real Japanese line-up, or are totally crazy.

The 3DS just proved past iterations' success doesn't mean anything and you still think that?

Besides, all the games showed so far have been relatively unsuccessful in japan.

Still sort of a soft time for the Japanese gaming industry as a whole. I think that RE:Mercs number is about expected, honestly. It's a spin off of a mode that was already in RE5 and there's not a ton of new content in it.

Good to see Akiba's Trip still plugging away as well as Patapon 3.

Hmm, this inspired me to look through the Vita's line-up and see how the counterpart games did on PSP and PS3.

Hot Shots:
-PS3: 409,840 (Hot Shots Golf 5)
-PSP: 399,161 (Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee)

Dynasty Warriors:
-PS3: 428,471 (Dynasty Warriors 7)
-PSP: 286,187 (Dynasty Warriors)

Ridge Racer:
-PS3: 149,648 (Ridge Racer 7)
-PSP: 273,521 (Ridge Racers)

Call of Duty:
-PS3: 251,128 (Call of Duty: Black Ops - Dubbed + Subbed)
-PSP: N/A

Uncharted:
-PS3: 97,865 (Uncharted 2)
-PSP: N/A

I'm unsure what to compare Street Fighter X Tekken to, but I think it's the only other announced series with notable sales.

Looking at the list I just made, the early games do seem to be more relevant than I initially thought.

A Monster Hunter (Best Version) with dual analog support timed with the system could definitely help as well.

if none of the launch games for Vita doesn't get a surprise delay.
I'm not expecting all of those at launch actually, I think a few are more so launch window titles.

Uncharted and CoD could easily be an exceptions though since I imagine they would target that for the Western release instead, but I think they're also the least relevant parts of the conversation.

Hopefully, 3DS sales pick up with upcoming releases, which it should, but once Vita is out Nintendo may actually be in trouble. 3DS needs Pokemon ASAP.

Those are actually pretty solid for a RE game with limited content and untraditional gameplay.

Compelling software has sold pretty well on 3DS given the installbase, interestingly it's really the hardcore games that seem to be driving hardware so far, the evergreen titles will coreelate with the weekly numbers pretty well and be more constant, but layton, One Piece, RE and SF bode pretty well for of course nintendo's big games, but things like MGS and RE as well. Of course thigns like Kingdom Hearts, the inevitable Dragon Quest and of course the ever popular price drop and holiday blitz will cement the 3DS as the leader once again.

If it gets monster hunter things could look messy for vita in japan, considering another price drop is out of the question for sony and nintendo could probably drop 50 or even 100 if neccesary.

3DS has shown that without MUST HAVE software 250$ is just a bit to much for japan. Luckily nintendo has more must have software and the pricedrop in it's pocket. PSV will do well, i'm sure but sony is really going all in on it, i'm sure they expect it to do even better than the PSP did, and without monster hunter being exclusive on it, does that happen again? Does it catch lightning in a bottle again?

I'm curious though, what is the PSP selling for these days in japan, and since it really has seen a rennaisance?

Will Nintendo have to try and re-introduce Nintendogs+Cats to consumers after 3DS gets a price drop? What were the total sold numbers for Nintendogs on the DS?

What was PSX selling weekly when DQVII released?
fam

That's FF IX and DQ VII kicking it out of the grave for a bit past the middle of the year. And yes, that 50+K week is an error, but without a better source it stays there as an oddity.

So it really is DS all over again. ;)

Think Nintendo should release some more Wii colors until WiiU is out. I wonder how they'll take the news now.
They'll probably time new colors with major releases. Gold for Zelda SS/Anniversary, Blue/Platinum for DQX/Anniversary?

To be fair Nintendogs on the DS built itself up as a monster over time. It didn't come out the doors running like DQ or Pokemon does.

Nintendo just needs a damn pricedrop.

I think the Outbreak games would probably be the best comparison. What did they sell?

Dragon Quest X can sell, let's say 2.5m-3m in Japan, with Wii almost dead in 2012?

It'll probably sell more than 3 mil. Big games sell really well on wii. And the amount it's selling now doesn't mean anything for a game like DQ.

Little Battlers should debut higher than Ocarina given it's the new big Level-5 IP that has a TV anime, manga, and toys already available.

But what will it mean with respect to PSP/3DS sales? June is the best chance that the 3DS has to outsell the PSP. Next week (6/10) is a pretty dead week for both, but 6/16 is the date when Little Battlers go head-to-head with Ocarina. Then there's the week of 6/30 when Tales of the Abyss 3DS comes out. If the 3DS can't outsell the PSP this month then it's most likely not going to for the next few months, looking at the release schedule.

i think its really strange to be offering it in Japan first, unless they plan on the MHP3 update to carry it. The PSP is continuing its success in Japan, and there are definitely concerns on its JP centeric lineup, which makes me wonder why they would launch their first instead of fleshing out a few more games to launch with. Meh, i'd start with the weakest market first to launch solely because you can be leaving money on the table dropping it in Japan.

The Wii... man that thing just died.

Try 3.5-4m. If there's one thing Wii doesn't have a problem with selling, it's blockbuster franchises laden with Famicom nostalgia.

It's very strange that Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii everywhere but in Japan. I wonder why they're doing this -- other than they just no longer care :(

Since next week is the dead week, I'd be willing to say the PSP will squeak out another win as it has remained kind of steady.

For the week after, Zelda will push some 3DS hardware, but The Little Battlers is an unknown to push any hardware. It's supposed to be a big game, but does that audience already own a PSP? If not, would they be willing to buy one? The game is very much aimed at children (though I imagine some of the Gundam/Super Robot Wars Mecha fans will buy), so the TV show being on the air for months should help in the kids nagging parents department. ;)

The week after the 3DS should outsell the PSP.

Man console sales really have slowed down in Japan. I remember when the DS selling less than 90k units a week was considered a slow week for everyone.

Interesting numbers though, that's for sure.

As for Zelda, I know it will push some hardware, but the series doesn't have the same impact over there as it has for the West. So I wonder to what degree it will pick-up sales.
