The week after the 3DS should outsell the PSP.

The week after Zelda/Little Battlers (6/23) is a big week for the PSP: Gundam Memories being the big one, with Stein's Gate and Gloria Union being smaller releases. The 3DS lineup that week is negligible. So I really doubt the 3DS will outsell the PSP that week.

What are the chances of SE moving DQX to WiiU?

I'd love that.
Zero. If it were any other big third-party exclusive, I'd say otherwise, but people don't seem to grasp how much of an anomaly the DQ franchise is.

OK, so Wii this second half has 2 confirmed big party games, 3 if Just Dance 2 is included with them, 4 if Mario Party 9 also makes it for December and 5 with Rhythm Heaven?

I'm guessing the first two you're talking about here are Kirby and Zelda? If so, yes, I agree with you.

Rhythm Heaven is supposed to come out before Kirby in Japan, right? If so, it's funny that Kirby is listed as "Fall" in NA and Rhythm Heaven is "TBA" in the US. Hopefully that doesn't mean the latter may not make it out (in NA) this year.

Finally, is there really any hope that Just Dance 2 will sell in Japan? Was the first brought over, too? If so, how did it do?

Is nintendo finally going to release Just Dance 2 in Japan anyway? I really don't understand what's taking them so long.

Little Battlers is going to do sub 100k numbers for sure. It won't push hardware.

Have pre-orders been low? Because I'd call a below 100k debut a bomba debut given the years the game has been in development, alongside the rest of the media made.

Ah, I didn't realize that Gundam was that week. Even with Tales for 3DS, I guess the PSP will claim that.

Which makes the week of the 16 kind of interestin, as I may be overestimating Cardboard Senki a lot (part bias, as I want the game to succeed).

Those will not make any difference in hardware sales. Gloria Union is probably not gonna break 30k and I doubt steins:gate is gonna make any waves.

I know nothing about this Gundam release though, is this a big release with lots of marketing or a lower key one?

God, the Wii is pretty much dead in the water.

And what's sad is that I honestly believe it could pick up again, especially with DQX coming next year, if they'd just DROP THE DAMN PRICE IN JAPAN!!

3DS is picking up, interesting. I'll be very interested to see what Ocarina does in Japan. Wii is dead, but we all knew that already. Vita will likely have monster opening considering the PSP in Japan.

-Not backwards compatible (just PSN, PSP love is in the physical media).
-3DS with lower price (expected)

It's very strange that Nintendo has dropped the price of the Wii everywhere but in Japan. I wonder why they're doing this -- other than they just no longer care :(

The only explanation I can think of is that Nintendo is really desperate to make yen in Japan when the exchange rate is so poor for everywhere else, but I think we're long past the point where the extra yen from fewer sales represents a net gain (over less yen but greater sales).

On the other hand, I'd say we're also long past the point where lowering the Wii to 10,000 yen would bolster it, either.

I don't usually follow this stuff, but is Monster Hunter beyond Dragon Quest at this point in terms of sales for the most recent releases?

How past systems have done means Jack shit, would have thought people had learnt that from the PS3 and so far with the 3DS. PS3 is winning the special Olympics but in reality both PS3 and Wii are doing horrid, Japan really is handheld central and don't see that changing with the likes of Wii U, PS4 etc. 3DS will pick up and Vita is looking good, in all likelihood they will just strengthen the handheld hold in Japan is that were even possible. I love it.

Yep going by current franchise strength, portable MH games are bigger than DQ.
How much did DQ IX sell in Japan again?

That is just WRONG in all aspects...

It was announced that DQIX sold some 4.26 million way back in March 2010. Given Monster Hunter Portable 3rd sold roughly the same amount now on Media Create, I would think they are about the same in franchise strength, but only in terms of portables.

DQ X is going to outsell MH3 on Wii by order of magnitudes more...

So 3DS so far has managed to keep up with NDS tempo more or less, but NDS will get its first sales spikes soon, and it may be hard for 3DS to maintain the parity.

they don't need to as you'll be able to play it on both consoles anyway. I wouldn't be surprised though if DQX was released around the same time as Wi U in Japan, and was used to tout the retrocompatibility of the new console.

Monster hunter 3 portable is almost at 4.5 million according to Media Create, and is past 4.4 million according to Famitsu. The game still hasn't had a bargain priced re-release yet. 2G sold 1.5 million in re-releases. I don't think that will happen for MHP3, but 200-300k seems like a reasonable target.

Garaph has DQIX stopping at 4.15 million in its initial release. The bargain re-release is at about 175k. So that is ~4.3 million total. Dragon Quest IX is the best selling entry in the franchise by a good margin.

So, I don't see how it is wrong to say that, currently, Monster Hunter is more popular than Dragon Quest. Especially since Monster Hunter Portable 3 has outsold every DQ game ever.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

MH is that strong on PSP - DQ Main title could be released in the 360 and still would sell its 3 million ......

I would still put Pokemon and DQ above Monster Hunter, I wanna see if that iP can maintain those sales levels post-PSP era ...

Wii seems to have decent line-up in Japan during summer (esp. July), though it may be 1-year too late...

Can these save Wii for better 2H in 2011 until WiiU? At least we will see Mario Party 9 and Zelda (finally) for the winter line-up...

Wii
------
Wii Play: Motion - 7/7
Inazuma Eleven Strikers - 7/16
Everybody's Rhythm Heaven - 7/21
Epic Mickey - 8/4 (Japanese release fixes the camera issue and difficulty setting, monitored by Nintendo)

3 million on 360 is pure speculation with no evidence.

Why does it matter what platform it's on? Right now Monster Hunter 3P has already outsold every Dragon Quest game including budget releases and it's not even done selling. Right now Monster Hunter sells more than Dragon Quest. Does anyone care that Pokemon games only sell on portable platforms? No.

You're probably right regarding your second point, especially, but I have to imagine a nice price drop plus the upcoming line up of games -- Inazuma Eleven, Rhythm Heaven, Kirby Wii, probably Mario Party 9 -- would do *something* to the system's sales.

Anyway, I can't believe NOJ's solution at this point is to keep the price the same and throw in Wii Sports Resort and another Wii Remote Plus. Uh, that would have been a good idea -- over a year ago :\

Yeah I wasn't including Gundam in the "not making a difference" games, just Gloria Union and Steins Gate, both very minor releases. (unless Steins:Gate is a much more popular VN than I was aware of).

I know Gundam is pretty big, it's just that lower key releases from the franchise don't sell that much. But yeah it will probably help the PSP keep steady for next week.

And Mario and Sonic. 3 of them have Mario. What is this? Party attack? Now I see why Nintendo includes 2 wiimotes.
Are you also factoring 3rd party games? Inazuma Strikers and Itadaki Street could be big sellers.

Is it me or PS3 has no games until August ?
It does seem a bit sparse. Not many big games, a decent number of smaller games.

From what I can see:
Yakuza of the End this week
Atelier Meruru next week
Street Fighter 4 AE in 2 weeks
Pawapuro, No More Heroes, EDF: IA, LA Noire and Infamous 2 in July.

Might be missing something, maybe someone has a full release list.
