Very good news, won't pull a Ninokuni, though I wonder if any new shipments are going to be barebones UMDs or still figure-included big boxes.

Hino has said that there will won't be a "barebones" retail release because the figure package is not a "first pressing" but the "standard packaging". He is very adamant about this. In future, if they release a Best Price release for the game, it will probably be a normal game package, but for now I doubt Level 5 has any plans to change their minds.

If this was the PAL thread someone would be saying that only selling to 14% of your userbase is a disasterous start for Zelda! To be fair 3DS sales look miraculous compared to everywhere else, and the game might hold on for a while. How long until it becomes best selling 3DS game there?

Eh. I'm not ready to call OoT3D a success. Didn't Spirit Tracks get all of its sales done almost right away?

Woot, I could have sworn I read the contrary just a few days ago but after looking for it right now I just noticed it was me misreading the bit about the 300k shipment all along (this story). Sorry for the confusion, not even sure myself how I took it like the first shipment was the only getting the figurine in the end.

If I understand correctly, Zelda Ocarina 3D sell-through is 90.02% according to Media Create.

That's incredible. Nintendo better ship another 200k next week

No. It is a success. For a remake, it can't be considered otherwise.

I don't think anyone noticed this last week, but where the heck did Resi 5 pop out of?

Why? Next week probably another 50-70k. Then, the same in the further 2-3 weeks. And 200k is gone. Do you think it's going to have a FF-like drop of 85-90%? I don't think it will.

I think it's better if they meet demand, rather than have shelves full of games. If they can print 200k, then shipping out only half that this week would be a good idea, and then make further shipments based on the sell through of that week. Spirit Tracks' long legs were a result of its bomba pricing, and it's understandable Nintendo doesn't want to repeat that.

PS3 has 1 game in Top 20 and 10 games in from 21 to 50..
thats amazing...
Demon Soul, RE & WWE look like slow burner..
how long it has been for Demon Soul since it release.. its a longest surviving PS3 game..
seeing GT5 missing is a sad sad thing..

Very happy about Little Battlers Xperience success; I think Level 5 is one of the few Japanese software house that understood how to sell games in the last gen. I hope it will milk less his brands, because this might be annoying (Prof. Layton saw a dramatic decline over the last three entries), but working as it did for this new PSP game is a strong fact which Square Enix and co. should be look at.

Ridiculous result for Steins;Gate anyway; 5pb should be satisfied to have built a loyal fanbase on 360, which has not performed so well the last years, concerning both hardware and software.

PS: this is my first post on Gaf, I'm very glad to have the chance to write in such a beautiful community!

388. [GBA] Pokemon Emerald (Pokemon Co.) {2004.09.16} - 21.739 / 2.189.078
417. [GBA] Pokemon Fire Red / Leaf Green (Pokemon Co.) {2004.01.29} - 19.635 / 3.068.223

..I wonder where Pokémon Black/White may go! Since it's been stable for a long time (actually, it has had a small incresing trend this month), I argue it will overcome Diamond/Pearl before Grey will be out (plausibly a mid-2012 release).

Generally speaking, Nintendo had a huge performance as well as the previous years; just two million sellers are not on Nintendo consoles! Even with poor numbers during the year, the Wii could push a lot of software, Wii Party is a big surprise for me (at least, with this result, and it keeps selling), and there are evergreens which are simply impossible to pull out from the chart (Brawl and Mario Kart in particular, since are more traditional than the title in the Wii series).

The last issue concerns the Training games. As this chart shows, they're not selling a lot anymore (even if there are very old titles, I think it's possible to see the trend also in weekly charts).. Where is the genre supposed to go? It has been a cash-flow for Nintendo during the last/current generation, but it seems hard to pose it again on 3DS, unless someone in the company finds how to create something unique and fresh for the console itself (maybe the Eye Training is the most "reasonable" in a sense).

Does anyone know if the no deleting saves thing for Mercenaries has actually succeeded in stopping used game sales at all?

for a moment, I thought it's 1337 which would have solidified its elite status

Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition - 279,951
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition (PlayStation 3 The Best) - 42,700
Resident Evil 5 (PS3) - 520,564
Resident Evil 5 (360) - 123,817

Total: 967,032 as of the end of 2010

Japan has most likely gotten its second HD million seller. Congratulations. This also marks/would mark the 5th RE game to pass 1 million in Japan, after RE1/2/3/4. Depending on how well Revival Selection sells, maybe CODE: Veronica can finally pass 1 million too.

It's all part of the media mix - reading the interviews with Hino, the game is suppose to in itself be a promotion for the rest of the figure line, where the figures are part of the promotion for the anime and game, all ties together in one big loop of happy profits for level 5.

Also want to comment on my favorite game of this generation steins gate!

Da-rin is Best opening of the year, should go on to be the best selling game of the year for 360.

Also if you combine platinum collection + double pack, the original steins gate sold more this week then it did on it's first week.

Seeing Microsoft's actions call to my mind the fact that Microsoft really doesn't give a bloody about the act of making any type of cash flow in the country of Japan, they just want KINECT to enter into the minds of the market. Dance central? Yep that sells 10% of da-rin, but's let push the dance central. "Also we need a wholesome family image for Kinect, so let's put restriction on games and the panties they can show."

Yeah, basically the model that comes with the game is an exclusive basic starter kit. If a fan who likes the game and likes the figure wants more, he/she will have to go out and buy the ones available at retail.

For some reason I had thought Biohazard 5 sold a bit better on the 360 than what is shown there. Guess not.

Speaking of 360, currently, what is the best selling game for the system in Japan? Blue Dragon still?

Probably Tales of Vesperia.

Funny thing is that Vesperia on PS3 was able to double those numbers, whilst SO4 int struggles to do 200K

Just says how much word of mouth and additional content means for belated releases.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Kinda curious what's SO4 International's LTD date up to now.

Vesperia PS3 sold a lot more than the 360 version.

Same thing happened with Eternal Sonata. Totally tanked on PS3 after word of mouth ruined it and that probably is what lead to Namco not releasing Vesperia on PS3 until so much later, heh.

These numbers don't include the budget version of Vesperia , I'll find the source later, but 99% sure Vesperia is the best selling game on 360

We usually don't include budget re-releases when discussing single best selling SKU though.

Budget version not appear in Famitsu and Media Create Top 1000

Well, nobody mentioned SKU. And when not specifically mentioned, I think we do tend to combine--nobody talks about Monster Hunter Portable 2 being a 2.4 million game, but a 4+ million game.

Cool. You can add +1 to that because I bought a copy for a friend a few months ago because I hate him.

It doesn't make that much sense to separate "best" releases just because of price. I mean, can we tell how many copies of the first release of MH3, FFXIII and LoZ:Spirit Tracks were sold at full price or from the "bomba bin" (sometimes cheaper than even "best" copies)?

I think we have a less clear cut case when we start to add things like "FFVII-International", "KH-Final Mix" or "MGS3-Subsistence". But, in light of this generation, are they any different from things like "Fallout: Game of The Year Edition", which is the original game + new content (that was originally sold through digital downloads)?

It is hard to define a rule for this. If we have data for everything, just label it properly and let people decide. =P

However, as has been said, ToV Platinum has not appeared in any chart we have (monthly 360 or Top 1000). So it couldn't have sold much more than 5k, which would put it barely ahead of SO4. (For the record, Blue Dragon Platinum has only a total of 709 from GameDataMuseum).

That was Famitsu data. Maybe FFDog is thinking about Media-Create:

[360] Tales of Vesperia (Bandai Namco) {2008.08.07} - 200,885
[360] Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope (Square Enix) {2009.02.19} - 197,147

Including re-releases, Ace Combat 6 is at something like 250k with the majority coming from the budget re-release...because it was bundled with some 360 system (arcade?) for quite a while.

Don't think the budget release would mean much for 360 ToV, since it was never charted.

This pretty much applies to practically 99% of 360 games though. They are extremely front loaded.

250k-300k tops. Don't see it doing much better than that. Isn't it also the most epxensive tales game to be released?

Unless there's something particularly wrong with Xillia, it seems unlikely to me that it would do worse than X360 and Wii ports, which did over 300K each.

I might be wrong, but wasn't it shown that MS had paid for Tales exclusivity?
