Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2012 (Jun 11 - Jun 17)

Not necessirely - look at White Knight chronicles which Sony released to counter X360 getting all jrpgs - that sold around 300-400k despite being crap.

Being direct competitor to popular franchise exclusive to other system can also be beneficial position.
Using this logic, why didn't Phantasy Star Zero sell 600k then?

Your comparison doesn't really work either, as 360 wasn't exactly established as the home for multimillion selling JRPGs.

A terrible, Kinect-exclusive follow-up to one of the most hardcore and niche games ever released in Japan. How low can that possibly sell.

I know it's implicit with the mention of Kinect, but it's worth adding "on a Microsoft console" to the litany of barriers against the title selling.

It's like all Vita owners bought P4. Anyway congrats to Vita.

If I ever want to play Persona, do I have to start with P1 first?

I have only played 3 and 4, and for these two I didn't find absolutely any need to have playing the 1 and 2;one may argue if I had played 1 and 2 I would understand new things, like easter eggs, but then it wasn't the case that 4 refernced to 3 either.

I dived into 3, like the above poster, and didn't feel that I was missing out. That said, I'm probably going to play Persona 1 as my next portable RPG once Tales of the Abyss is polished off, so we'll see!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

You don't need to. The stories are pretty much self contained (although P2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment are connected). I started with 1 all up to 4. 1 didn't age well and 2 was pretty hard (I only played EP). 3 is pretty good whereas 4 improves a lot on 3.

GT4 and GT3 combined have sold over 26m[edit: wiki data] I don't see GT6 (if ever released on PS3) and GT5 combined even reaching one of them, let alone 26m.

It is true that the game wasn't critically acclaimed like it's predecessors, but I believe if it was release before 2008, it could not only receive a better critical response, but also sell much better too.

Since this gen started, several major games in the racing/simulation genre came out on consoles:
Forza 2, Forza 3
Dirt 2
Need for Speed Shift

GT was a really huge IP back then, but they gave so much space to the competitors; I would go as far as saying if GT5 was available at near launch on PS3, it would noteicabley help to move the PS3 hardware itself.

Having played all those games, I can't in good conscience call Shift a sim racer. It's got atrocious handling physics. It's like they want to make a sim racer, but wanted to keep some arcade elements, and in the end made neither. It's a mess of a racing game.

But I agree with the point you're making :p

3 and 4 are more accessible but 1 and 2 are much more challenging. 2 has an incredible amount of content that smokes the rest of them and 1 still has the best story and atmosphere.

Namco, where's my other half part of my European localization ?

Namco where is my US localization... :(

You could just import a EU cop... :(

Interestingly, DBZ for Kinect has yet to be announced for Japan. I wonder if there will be any Japanese voice acting in it at all.

Except Final Fantasy is bigger in the west and here gamers want it to stay on home consoles. This is not your typical Dragon Quest with most of the audience being in Japan. Final Fantasy is the biggest international IP Square Enix has, the only big Square Enix Japan title in the west and their flagship title all over the world. Luminous Engine clearly hints at the future of FF in one way or another, and that means with cool technologies available only on home consoles.

Lately? No.

Ohhhhhh, nice week.

I thought MGSHD and white Vita were on different weeks, Vita should get a nice bump from the both then I suppose. 30k should be achievable.

Persona 4 The Golden - 84.11%

The Golden also beat out its predecessors in a stat we usually don't hear about: percentage of first week sales that came from pre-orders. The original Persona 4 sold 29.1% of its first week's total to pre-orders. Persona 3 Portable sold 56%. Persona 2 Innocent Sin sold 45.9%. The Golden reached a high 66.6%. Media Create believes this is the result of user demand through the exposure Persona 4 has received through a variety of media (anime, manga, stage, etc.).

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So, 3DS XL, Mario and Onitore all in the same day ( July 28th ).
Crap.

Alright thanks for the input everyone. I'll probably jump into P4 Vita when it comes out in NA.

I'd suggest starting with P3P since it's PSP game and it's older so it might feel weird going back to it after P4.

Also funny how Nintendo trolled everyone who bough 3DS in last few weeks by sudden annoucment of XL.

Watched the last DQX trailer and I even more sure that it will be a success for SE.
In teh first part they focused on the story elements to remind to the traditional games and then they focused on teh social aspects that should resonate well with DQ broad appeal.
Kid time is the ice on the cake.

Still fuck you SE.

They had to announce it sometime, so it would have affected someone anyway. I mean, it is the same with pricedrops, they have to announce it sometime, and it sucks for people who have recently bought something for the previous price. It is inevitable unless a system is completely dead and not a single person have bought it in weeks.

Guess its gonna be alright when Vita gets a price drop then.

Well, you could argue that most people expected a 3DS revision to be announced at E3 or not at all in the near future. I can see at least see a couple of people buying a 3DS over the past two weeks being kinda pissed.

I was expecting that joke hehe :p But when i said "not a single person" i ment it literally, since when a pricedrop comes, it will affect someone even if just one person have bought it. The situation is inevitable, since it will affect someone regardless (unless literally no one have bought it).

Yeah, i can see that situation. But it is a "risk" one take when buying something. Buying a new 3D card for the PC today mean that a new one can be announced next week. Hard to know these things. I understand if people are pissed, but i wouldnt really blame Nintendo for it.

now I see why NSMB2 focuses on coin... so that Nintendo can sell DLC stages for coin rush... damn you Nintendo

When Iwata/Miyamoto first talked about doing DLC one of the first examples they gave was selling extra stages for a Mario game, so it's been on the cards for a while.

Edit: Also unrelated and not sure whether it belongs in a sales thread or not, but Nintendo seems to be showing a lot more pull with Japanese third parties than they ever have. In light of their strong connections with Koei-Tecmo, and now the collaboration with Bandai Namco.
