Media Create Sales: Week 24, 2017 (Jun 12 - Jun 18)

Was really hoping for at least 50k Switch units. ARMs would've been a little higher too if they could've provided that many units. Oh, well... it's a shame Nintendo can't get more units out due to part shortages.

Still, great showing for ARMS, debuting over 100k. I hope it can leg it out to 500k at least. Would be an amazing showing for a fighting game in Japan (
that isn't Smash
).

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I wonder if Zelda can maintain >10k for a while if Switch supplies can manage >35k.

My main curiosity (that only Famitsu and Dengeki can satisfy) is to see if and how other Switch games reacted to the higher hardware supply.

My Ys and NieR sales !

Great for ARMS too.

Arms and Splatoon are what I want from Nintendo going forward with new IPs.

Great for ARMS. I didn't expect this game would make Switch sell 10000 more this week.

I have interest in this game, seems fun and useful for home workout.

06./06. [PS4] Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana <RPG> (Nihon Falcom) {2017.05.25} (¥6.800) - 4.697 / 47.964 (-12%)

These seem like good numbers for a year old port of a Ys game. I wonder if Sen III can pull off 150k.

Well done ARMS. Now let's see those arms- I mean, uh, legs. Wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 400-500k worldwide when accounting for US and the rest of Europe.

I can see it get a boost throughout the summer and when Splatoon 2 comes out. People are gonna wanna buy additional games for their Switches.

Zelda still having a strong association with Switch hardware itself is nice. 500k passed on the Switch version, now for the long march to 600k!

Digital sales don't exist for tekken and sf5?

I think people are saying this because:

1) for digital only Switch users, buying digitally from Japan is cheapest and you get the game early. A lot of people did this for ARMS, including me.

2) ARMS on Amazon included a discount code for Splatoon 2 if you bought there and it charted pretty high.

Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition opened at more than 40,000 (MC)

07. / 00. [3DS] Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (Capcom) {2011.02.26} - 44.649 / NEW

Both Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6 had 100k+ openings, though, between PS3 and 360 (MC)

02. [PS3] Street Fighter IV (Capcom) 86,000 / NEW
05. [360] Street Fighter IV (Capcom) 38,000 / NEW

03./00. [PS3] Tekken 6 (Namco Bandai) - 103,105 / NEW
11./00. [360] Tekken 6 (Namco Bandai) - > 26,559

Remembered it higher for some reason, must have been mixing it up with LTD or something.
Thanks!

Does Media Create count bundles or could the Arms sales be even higher? I assume the bundle would sell out.

Media Create usually count games from bundles, but it doesn't matter in that case because ARMS didn't get a bundle (not an official one, at least).

I expected about half of that for Arms if I'm completely honest. It's a quirky new fighting game IP on a system with a small install-base, and supply constraints ensure it will stay small for the foreseeable future. It seems like a pretty great debut.

Nice debut for ARMS! Great to see BotW(NSW) pass 500,000. Nice little bump for Switch hardware as well. Still hoping Nintendo can get production ramped up sooner than later. People are thirsty for Switch.

Wow, great debut for ARMS.

Love the new twist on fighting games, the characters, etc. Just hope the content comes at a steady pace.

ARMS is already a success taking into account the situation of the Fighting genre in Japan. But if ARMS has LEGS is going to be insane.

Nah. Nintendo put huge expectation towards ARMS considering the devs pedigree, huge marketing push and being Switch big title. If it dont have any leg, it will be a failure no question.

What number did you think they need to be considered as a success? 1 Million WW?

It being a Nintendo game + the long free DLC strategy means ARMS could have pretty good legs as well. Hopefully they can keep the characters, stages, and maybe even new modes(like a story mode) coming.

Also the fact that the Switch is still supply constrained means that some people that are likely wanting Arms weren't able to purchase it. Hopefully, they can at least keep the Switch sales to a minimum of 35,000 through the summer, though it's not looking like they will be able too.

Nier is relatively unknown, so it's still spreading through word of mouth in Japan. Most Japanese gamers seem to buy games they're interested in day 1, which is easier when it's a new entry in a series you already know and love. I doubt another Nier would ever have nearly as good legs, even if it ends up selling as much overall.
My thoughts as well

Wha? I would be shocked if Nintendo doesn't consider 100K launch week in japan as a success. With that number, I would think its on its way to be a million seller WW. For a brand new fighting game, based on motion, etc etc. I would think they would be happy

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch is over 500k already.

Wii U + Switch combined = 637 750 units.
Units left to 1m: 362 250 units
Weeks left before the end of year: 28 weeks
Needs: 12 937 units/week.

Looking pretty good so far. Right now, Switch version sales are directly tied to the amount of Switch units shipped to retailers.

So I have a question really unrelated to our normal discussions but w/e. Does anyone thibk the decline of Microsoft and specifically the 360 in Japan has had a detrimental effect on some of the core oriented titles in Japan? The 360 only did a bit over 1 million but when you look at the units sold for SF4 for example they represent a pretty significant chunk of sales. A lot of those niche bullet hells found a market on the system as well. Any thoughts?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

While in line with my earliest expectations its still great to see a new mainline 3D Zelda on its way to +1m sales again.

Usually leggy titles get a boost around Obon and December - so I don't see why Zelda wouldn't also get a boost from holiday periods. There is also DLC planned later this month and in December to keep the game in people's minds. Coupled with the expectations of more stock once Splatoon 2 launches I just don't see how it's possible for legs to suddenly disappear - especially when there isn't a major SP Nintendo game releasing until Super Mario Odyssey.
The only thing I feel Nintendo needs to do is give Zelda some bundles or discounts - especially if they want to enable more people to potentially purchase the season pass.

1 million WW would be failure as even pokken is able to beat that number quite easily on Wii U without any free updates.

The least they should get for ARMS to be a success for me is 3 million WW. Their investment towards this new IP does not sounds like they are looking for some modest number at all.

100k FW in Japan is a great first step for sure. But i am talking about long term goals. If it only end up like 1 mil WW LTD, that is a guaranted failure for me and Nintendo i believe.

snipperclips is above 100K with digital sales

Minecraft is probably well above 100K at this point as well. Hasn't dropped from the top 3 in the eShop chart since it's release. I believe Arms is actually the first game to knock it off it's perch and that was expected considering it's the biggest launch since MK8D coupled with the digital discounts for Splatoon 2.
