Pocket Monsters Red / Green / Blue / Yellow (70,959 / 53,873)*

First number denotes download cards + eShop, second number eShop only (obviously buying through the Nintendo homepage counts as eShop)

Theoretically, the Pokémon fanbase is well established on 3DS, whereas the Final Fantasy base hasn't had a compelling reason to move to PS4 yet. If it's even close, that says bad things about FF's strength in the market.

Theoretically the FF fanbase has quite an overlap with the general Sony fanbase. So I don't see this year's PS4 vs 3DS war as a FFXV vs Pokemon thing. There are some other major releases on both platforms this year.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
They must have gone into this expecting it to do around the same as their last few releases (which didn't do too hot), which is why they're having stock issues due to underestimating it.

Its pretty stupid that they have such a solid title yet didnt make a stronger push with it. As it should be obvious by the ones who created the game that the title has a lot of work put into it. Having it myself can also attest for that fact.

At least the net seems to be enjoying it so hopefully it will continue to sell well as they keep pushing out more units.

Theoretically the FF fanbase has quite an overlap with the general Sony fanbase. So I don't see this year's PS4 vs 3DS war as a FFXV vs Pokemon thing. There are some other major releases on both platforms this year.

The PS4 first has to overcome the 2DS release which currently acts as a shadow-gap that isn't tracked. On the back weeks where the PS4 was leading by 4-5k over the 3DS that would require 20 weeks of just that to overcome the gap. But since we're now just trading week for week, the PS4 will need (probably) three to four major releases that push the gap between hardware to +30k which, in and of itself, seems rather unlikely as an overall gap between hardware.

After that gap has been over come then we can start factoring in things like:
  1. Pokemon, and other major 3DS releases.
  2. FFXV, and other major PS4 releases.
  3. 3DS price drop.
  4. PS4 price drop.
  5. PS4Neo
  6. PSVR
  7. New handheld announcements or lack thereof...

So 8-10k, and then something like 6-7k avg in weekly sales.

Seem about right, if Mario Maker sells 4-5k with the bundle Splatoon Will do easy more than that.

Way less. Less than 8k on the bundle release date, and 5k to 6k in average on weekly basis.

EDIT: Oh, those SM64 sales! Such times.

Btw, is Media Create White Book for 2015 out yet and is there gonna be any effort for anyone to buy it & compile it like last year?

Theoretically the FF fanbase has quite an overlap with the general Sony fanbase. So I don't see this year's PS4 vs 3DS war as a FFXV vs Pokemon thing. There are some other major releases on both platforms this year.

PS3s highest selling week was the launch week of FF XIII (237k for the week) so while there is of course some overlap first mainline FF will give the console a big boost.

3DS clinging on to that YTD top spot for dear life. It'll lose it for sure the week that FFXV releases though. It'll be interesting to see how things play out when all's said and done. FFXV vs. Pokemon to decide the battle. Exciting.

I would hope the PS4 can beat a system that has been on the market for a long time and has entered its twilight years.

It will he bad if it can't.

Famitsu Retail + Digital Update

[PS4] Dragon Quest Heroes II: The Twin Kings and Prophecy's End: 290.974
[PSV] Dragon Quest Heroes II: The Twin Kings and Prophecy's End: 207.326
[PS3] Dragon Quest Heroes II: The Twin Kings and Prophecy's End: 113.439

All: 611.739

First game sold 830k, musou drop, but not quite severe, it's mostly due to the dying PS3. PS4 version of DQH2 is performing well enough agains the original which sold 357k.

[PS4] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016: 156.910
[PSV] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016: 138.060
[PS3] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2016: 92.981

All: 387.951

Big improvement over the 2014 iteration that sold 233k, still less than the 413k 2013 version, though it could outsell that too.

[PS4] Battlefield 4 [All Versions]: 232.807
[PS4] Battlefield: Hardline [All Versions]: 162.685
[PS4] Overwatch: 125.661

Shooters are popular on PS4 alright.

[PS3] Dark Souls [All Versions]: 462.054
[PS4] Dark Souls III: 375.183
[PS3] Dark Souls II: 339.592
[PS3] Demon Souls: 314.816
[PS4] Bloodborne [All Versions]: 278.272

I posted this some time ago, but DSIII became the 2nd best selling in the series and it's the best selling single SKU.

  1. [PS2] Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time: 710.185
  2. [PS1] Star Ocean: The Second Story: 704.318
  3. [360] Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope: 208.521
  4. [PSP] Star Ocean: First Departure: 204.996
  5. [PS3] Star Ocean 4: The Last Hope - International: 179.202
  6. [SFC] Star Ocean: 175.861
  7. [PSP] Star Ocean: Second Evolution: 149.846
  8. [PS4] Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness: 144.234
  9. [GB] Star Ocean: Blue Sphere: 128.764
  10. [PS3] Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness: 33.248
Star Ocean V PS3+PS4: 177.482

Barely more than the first one, no good.

[PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition: 1.055.458
[PS3] Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition [PlayStation Store]: 355.000
[PS4] Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition: 301.120
[WIU] Minecraft: Wii U Edition: 171.631

Digital sales for PS3 and Wii U versions are heavily outdated.

All: 1.883.209

It's probably sold 2m with the missing PS3 and Wii U sales, also Famitsu's estimates may be below the actual numbers.

On other western sales on PS4, Grand Theft Auto V has also sold more than 300k units.

Finally:

[WIU] Super Mario Maker: 985.760

It'll be interesting to see how sales colapse after the bundle dies out, though it's still hitting a million before the end of July.

Accurate
Is there any PS4 limited edition for the launch of FFXV? I don't remember one.

I bought the lightning one (250 GB slim) when I first went to Japan (I was lucky to be there on the launch of FFXIII).

I think it's obvious Minecraft Wii U's digital performance is being kept hidden. It has to be because it's always #1 on the Wii U eShop yet we see updates for Splatoon and such.

But why? Is Microsoft "ashamed" that a Wii U game they're actually publishing is selling so much more than ANY of their XBO games and is surely now their most successful game in Japan of all time (surely passing Blue Dragon which was at just over 200k IIRC)?

That's the only reason I can think of. Any thoughts?

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
They're not hidden, otherwise we wouldn't even have digital datas from Famitsu to begin with. It's just that Famitsu, for one reason or another, tends to underestimate (even heavily) digital sales on Nintendo consoles, and we can safely say this due to other examples of real datas clashing with Famitsu estimates. Also, I wouldn't exclude the case it happens for the other consoles as well, but, so far, we have several examples of underestimates on Nintendo consoles at least.

It's obvious you see updates for Splatoon digital because combined retail+digital enters top 30.

True. But I recall back in March when we got Feb numbers, that the #30 spot retail and digital combined was REALLY low. Let me double check...

Edit: Here:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=199739614&postcount=186

30. [PS4] Yakuza: Kiwami <ADV> (Sega) {2016.01.21} (¥6.490) - 16.106 (2.033) / 18.139

Even 18,139 is a HUGE drop from the Jan number for Minecraft Wii U which was 71,722. In Dec 2015 it did 77,233.

Maybe it is readjusting and took away numbers hence it being a no-show.

There are lots of interesting things to comment. This time is about Splatoon and Yo-Kai Watch.

Tower Records in Shibuya, stores dedicated mostly to the music industry, has dedicated the summer sales to Splatoon. They have since very big ads out-of-store to boards where you can write messages to Callie. They even have on their sections about music, just above the shelves, advertisements using Splatoon characters for their Summer Sale.

At Santy Shop, Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the main theme. Don't worry about COMG! pre-orders. It's clear that the game will have a lower opening than the past entry, but the advertisement outside the Niigata prefecture is getting bigger each day.

However, they also have used some space on shelves for Pokémon Sun and Moon, games that will be available for pre-orders the same day of the Yo-Kai Watch release.

Nintendo opened pre-orders for Wii U Splatoon Set Bundle on Amazon.jp, and the price is already at 70,000¥ lol

I think we'll start seeing bigger shipments after the new bundle. After all Splatoon remains the biggest reason to buy a Wii U in Japan.

I would assume dq11 and ff7 remake would be bigger releases at this point in Japan so next year would likely be the best year for ps4. There is also resident evil 7 early next year
Why are you assuming FF 7R is next year we've seen nothing about that game DQ11 also isn't exclusive to PS4 being confirmed for both NX abd 3DS though in an entirely different form.

Theoretically, the Pokémon fanbase is well established on 3DS, whereas the Final Fantasy base hasn't had a compelling reason to move to PS4 yet. If it's even close, that says bad things about FF's strength in the market.

Yeah that's my thinking too, at least for hardware sales. What I'm wondering is if it'll be enough to close the gap.

Why are you assuming FF 7R is next year we've seen nothing about that game DQ11 also isn't exclusive to PS4 being confirmed for both NX abd 3DS though in an entirely different form.
I know DQ is on 3ds and nx but I think the ps4 version will still do better than FFXV on ps4 in Japan. Ff7 remake is episodic so I think the first episode will be out next year coinciding with its 20th anniversary but who knows. Also I wouldn't say we have seen "nothing" bcoz they showed something at psx which looked like gameplay running in unreal engine which could help in game coming out quicker

Eh.

Unless FFXV severely underperforms I wouldn't expect DQXI on PS4 to do much better.

DQ is more of a "casual" series compared to FF, most of the DQ fanbase aren't really the people who play on consoles anymore (note: for the most part) nor are the kind of peple who double dip on games, most would be satisfied with just getting one version of the game and will most likely go with the 3DS version, or the NX version if enough people migrate fast enough.

From what I've read a lot of people are also finding the idea of playing XI in the same style of VI more compelling than HD graphics, so there's that too, but wouldn't put much weight into it.

Its pretty stupid that they have such a solid title yet didnt make a stronger push with it. As it should be obvious by the ones who created the game that the title has a lot of work put into it. Having it myself can also attest for that fact.

At least the net seems to be enjoying it so hopefully it will continue to sell well as they keep pushing out more units.

i would instead assume that retailers didn't believe nisj's sales team that the game was good and had potential. nisj wouldn't intentionally neuter themselves with a low week-one quantity.

from all accounts it's supposed to be pretty good, so this could finally be the new franchise they've been aiming for since 2012.

So Rakuten Books has both a daily ranking and a weekly ranking? No wonder I always got confused. I thought they were just putting out lists whenever they want.
