Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Youkai Watch had a better debut than Inazuma Eleven (the first), isn't it?

Altrough Pikmin did ok

Sales for Pikmin are okay, but not for Wii U, shows that people who were interested in Pikmin largely already own a Wii U.

Why are people saying Wii U sales are bad?

It's second place in Japan. It hast the number 1 game. It has actually two games in the top 5.

Even if the Wii U could have done better, it did a decent portion of the console sales last week, almost a quarter, and that's with Pikmin 3 coming out for two days within the catalogued week rather than the usual four days. Don't forget to take this into account.

This week has a holiday in it so it'll also help for the charts next week.

It's pretty obvious it needs a price cut to go along with the games. Too bad there won't be games coming out consistently.

Also, it seems Pikmin 3 on Famitsu also includes download cards.

Sarcasm meter approaching its limits.

20K seems to be in line with Japanese home console numbers for the year (see my previous post), though certainly not good. It certainly reinforces the notion that home consoles are on their way out in Japan, and that's not good news for companies whose bread and butter is Japan (aka Nintendo).

Decent Pikmin numbers though.

I'm not sure why people were expecting bigger boosts just with Pikmin 3, few other things need doing first.

I doubt the Wii U was getting any real advertising or discounts still.

It shows that Nintendo's strategy of marketing through Directs will only shrink the companies consumer base.

Well, Pikmin really couldn't hope to do much better than this. It's not like the Wii rereleases had any effect on its popularity so userbase doesn't matter much. Nintendo made a big mistake in using so many resources for a game like this though. Then, again, I think their entire line up for this year will be underwhelming, at least from a sales standpoint.

They should only invest in system selling games? Okay.

They could invest in things that diversify they userbase even if they don't sell much by themselves. Pikmin never would do it. Only a small part of hardore Nintendo fans care about it, and it'll never expand beyond that. So, you've got people who'd likely would buy the console anyway, and only a small number of them. Now, Nintendo does have some stuff in production that will attempt to diversify their line up, but nothing for this year.

Pikmin 3 sold decently, but with the lack of a userbase I have to wonder if it'll have meaningful legs. I guess lifetime sales similar to 1 and 2's are out of the question.

Wii U sales remain bad, but that was to be expected. Nintendo needs to do more than releasing a single game and making a white premium set. The color doesn't matter when no one is interested in the set in the first place.

I expected worse for Pikmin, but better from the system itself.

This is my takeaway from this as well. It's not a good number for a relatively new console at all, but I don't think we could have expected all that much more either looking at the recent history. I naively hope that the PS4 might do better, but I don't really realistically see it successfully fight the current either.

If I were Nintendo, I'm not really sure what I'd do to change course at this point.

Well, Nintendo seems to be shifting focus onto the 3DS in increasing amounts. Unless Mario Kart / Super Mario 3D World / Smash translates into a sales reversal, I don't see what else they can do.

Since no one bothered to post the full Famitsu chart, and the OP still hasn't been updated, here are the Famitsu numbers, for archival purposes:
