Minecraft up again, what are people predictions on the ceiling on this thing? Will it sell forever like in does in the west?
And I wonder if DQB will help or hinder it? A rival could steal it's audience or it could make more fans of the 'genre' + also bring more people to the platform.

Yeah, i didn't notice the significant difference in sales for the PS4 this year vs last year. I'm less concerned with the console market knowing that at least those 2 machines are doing fine.
They'd have Yoshi next week...but I fear the Amiibo plushies will be far better sellers than the game.
Bundle them with the games, duh.

It's really a matter of lowered expectations. PS4 and Wii U are doing pitiful numbers no matter how you spin it; PS4 just overcame DC cumulative total since launch in Japan. Healthy home platforms were doing 30-40k on a weekly basis back then.
...Actually, there's the bundle, but I fear not even that will be enough this time.
They should've bundled Splatoon amiibos with Yoshi's Wolly World!
FE Fates sees a huge drop, but is still confirming its potential to (easily?) be the second best selling FE of all time.

As for PS4 new model may be the reason for bump, but I don't think average Joe would care, especially in Japan
As a matter of fact I asked store guy at couple of places and many thought difference is really minor so customer just keep buying without asking for model number..

Is Yoshi going to bomb hard in Japan? I didn't follow your Comgnet numbers on this...too bad, the game debute well in Europe and I really appreciated it: way more than the 3DS counterpart, that didn't do bad in Japan, sales-wise.
I'm not saying that I was expecting high sales, but at least 100k LTD (around DKTF numbers, right?)

As I wrote in the last topic, advertisement raised consumers' awareness about the game. Of course the ads was focused on the eShop discount, but some people were still influenced by it and by the presence of a quite famous idol. The campaign Nintendo is undertaking right now in Japan is quite big.
Third FF in a row that is underperforming on PS4 with respect to retailers' expectations.

Could've done well digitally, being an MMO these typically have higher digital attach-rate than usual I think.

I don't doubt it's a possibility, but I still think it's not doing well at retail right now. I'm rather interested in seeing how well it's doing digitally, actually. Any hints before Famitsu digital numbers (which will be...a long way, given the usual schedule)?

I don't think retailers had much expectation with an MMO expansion. Most sales will be digital, especially with FFXIV ARR that came free in digital format if you had 1.0.

Except they had, since the game just sold to consumers 40-60% of its first shipment, and given this week's drop, it won't clear the unsold stock anytime soon.
As for the digital adoption, I agree that might good but for reference, the first DQX expansion sold well at retail AND digitally, so it seems that Japanese gamers might still be willing to buy a phyisical copy if they're willing to pay for it.

That said, I question the relevance against actual Minecraft which is a largely community driven, creative powered tool. I don't imagine that DQB will actually have any of this outside of the paperthin skin layer on top... which you can do in Minecraft with proper modding.

You can predict a trend watching the MK8 - Spltn comparison.
The game might get a bump on week 9 (start summer vacations), and another one on week 12 (Obon).
If they're going for the Minecraft audience then I'm sure they'll make creativity a major factor in the game. It'd be a bit weird if they didn't.
I mean...MAYBE as a single SKU, but the sales of Persona 5 and MGSV on all systems they're available on will surely both outdo Splatoon.
Well it's already the all time best-selling game on Japan's Wii U eshop, the low stock probably contributed to that somewhat
