i think it should have been equal to MH3 Wii..
anyway it was just my expectations

It's not a new game per se, so it will be impossible to reach the level of MH3 on Wii.

Dengeki gave a Taiko 2 PSP update!...but they got the release date wrong saying it was Sep 2009 when it was 2006, anyway comparison-time:

Taiko no Tatsujin Portable 2 (PSP, 2006)
Code:
			M-Create	Dengeki Famitsu
1st Week 12,370 14,000 14,638
LTD 221,179 266,000 58,782
There's no yearly breakdown from Dengeki but we can see the discrepancy between MC and Famitsu with it:

Famitsu:
2006: 225. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 58.782 / 58.782

Media Create:
2006: 255. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 44.828 / 44.828
2007: 312. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 42.253 / 87.081
2008: 208. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 63.263 / 150.344
2009: 246. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 44.962 / 195.306
2010: 346. [PSP] Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 (Bandai Namco) {2006.09.07} - 25.873 / 221.179

I wonder where Taiko PSP could arrive... I think it won't have the same legs of the previous entry, or of the DS chapters, but surely it will sell more than 300k units. It also depends on Namco strategy, maybe it want to release another Taiko (3DS? PS3?).

I think they'll release another Taiko, and I think we'll see a new chapter on Wii, especially.
Yeah,IMHO Wii is the first contender as destination for a new Taiko, then 3DS ( young install base, possibility of being the first to catch the audience on Holidays, helping also console's sales - maybe a deal with Nintendo? ) and very last PS3 (too little install base )

But its port of a much much more successful game, plus it has the feature of transferring.. so even if 20% people buy it, it should reach 1 million. and in my view having 20% die hard fans of a highly successful game should not be too tough

MHP3 is more popular because it's on PSP. That's pretty much all there is to it. Monster Hunter games are strikingly successful on handhelds/the PSP but in comparison no heavy hitters on consoles. The PS3 port won't be a difference just because it's the same game now in HD.

Not a chance. 300k odd sounds about right to me.

Your expectations are too high. It's a PSP port on PS3, nothing more. MH is the type of game which is best played ad-hoc with friends at a cafe or on the train. PS3 doesn't really give you that experience. If Crapcom want to make a successful home console version they need to do it the hard way, not just port the PSP version.

Monhan's already popular on consoles, that's why MH3 sold over a million (despite requiring a $20 monthy subscription for online) and the MMO version even sold 100k on 360, despite being an old PC port and based off MH2. Even MHG on Wii sold 250k, and that was an ancient port, full price, incompatible with the Wiimote and even still had the subscription fee.

I bet MHP3D easily sells over 500k. Data transfer and no subscription fees (a first for cobsole MH in Japan) are big selling points, even if it's a year old game.

Dengeki gave 55% sellthrough for the 2 versions of Jikkyou and Taiko but unlike L.A. Noire these games will have legs.

MHG had also a MHTri demo. MHP3HD will be lucky to come close to 500K.

Wii and 3DS underperforming and not getting games, I believe. Game releases for fall/holiday, should fix this.

Tri demo undoubtedly helped G Wii too. Speaking of Tri, why hasn't Capcom done a best reprint yet? RE5 PS3 almost doubled it's numbers with content added and budget reprints, I think even in today's Wii market MH3 would move a ton with a reprint. Maybe drop the Hunter's license fee and add some of the time exclusive dlc on disc to sweeten the deal too? It's not like many new copies are left in the retail channel anyway.

I think 500k should be easy lifetime for P3HD. Honestly, I think it could go higher even.

Or maybe it's because they're readying 3G for 3DS.

Capcom shipments for Japan were 1.1m, the sales trackers put it like 50k short of that max. It was overshipped upfront, but there aren't many new copies left now. Adding extra minor dlc content on disc and dropping online fees could give a budget reprint an edge over the used market too.

Good for 3DS to have 9 titles in the top 50.

Also interesting to note that both Nintendogs and Layton grew

27./39. [3DS] Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog / Shiba / Toy Poodle & New Friends | ETC | (Nintendo) {2011.02.26} | ¥4.800 | - 12 positions up

46./00. [3DS] Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle | ADV | (Level 5) {2011.02.26} | ¥5.980 | - back in top 50

The miracles of colors... and of new covers, if they were on the market already last week

if this is the last Starfox to ever be released, at least the series got to go with a bang.

unlike F-Zero which was just swept under the rug after Climax failed so horribly (they should have made a DS launch game instead)

First day reports from retailers talk for strong first day sales for Rhythm Heaven and expectations for strong legs in Summer.

There is scepticism for PSP Sengoku Basara performance. Expected performance for the other titles.
More first day info from other retailers:

Mixed impressions for Rhythm Heaven, some have high sellthrough, some low.

Basara looks to underperform everywhere, low sellthrough.

For RT, the places with low sellthrough will se it rise with the time, thanks to the nature of the game I think... maybe it's selling not so quickly in stores whose customers are more inclined to Sony's products, such as Azalyn :p

One question:I've heard there's an exclusivity deal between Nintendo and Bandai for One Piece brand...maybe right here on Gaf.
Is it true? XD

This doesn't mean that Rhythm Heaven will show the same growth this weekend but Wii Party had a low first day start.

[WII] Wii Party (Nintendo) - 52.242 / 19,40%
[WII] Wii Party (Remote Set: Pink) (Nintendo) - 8.982 / 32,90%
[WII] Wii Party (Remote Set: White) (Nintendo) - 5.479 / 19,80%

Also despite the minimum difference in price between the bundled and unbundled copies market went clearly for the first SKU which could show why Wii Play: Motion had a so low start

It is highly unlikely.Monster Hunter is a nice addition to the PS3 library, but is just a port. It will probably sell around 400k.

On the bright side, ToX will be PS3's first original Tales game

Comgnet:Tales of

Tales_thumb.jpg

It will probably sell 550-600k (MC FW 350-400k).No one should be surprised.

-According to Namco Bandai,Tales of Vesperia has sold 630k
PS3 (2009) 420k (MC FW 216k)
360 (2008) 210k (MC FW 108k)

-Tales of Graces has sold 565k
PS3 (2010) 345k (MC FW 215k)

while PS3 hardware sales are improving gradually
Code:
       Wk 26 Wk 27 Wk 28

2011 26,441 22,900 23,322
2010 20,077 18,345 19,473
2009 11,196 9,864 8,865

But YTD PS3 numbers are over 120k lower than YTD numbers of 2010.
that is more than 15% lower than last year.. Moreover Playstations sales usually do not go crazy like Nintendo's at the year end. Also none of the game you mentioned is not appearing first time on PS3. so hardware boast from these releases will be pretty minimal if any at all. Only thing that can give a solid hardware boast is a price cut in my opinion

Capcom shipments for Japan were 1.1m, the sales trackers put it like 50k short of that max. It was overshipped upfront, but there aren't many new copies left now. Adding extra minor dlc content on disc and dropping online fees could give a budget reprint an edge over the used market too.
Its not just about the amount of units but the perceived value of them. If they had to clear 100k at 500Y there's no reason to bring new 2000-3000Y copies. Also they aren't going to put any more effort into a finished game and/or start taking losses for the sake of it.

Are there going to be predictions this week?
Sure if there's interest, though I don't see many interesting new games so maybe we could add 3DS/PSP HW. But, is there any interest?

On the bright side, ToX will be PS3's first original Tales game

It will probably sell 550-600k (MC FW 350-400k).No one should be surprised.
You're officially Namco Bandai prediction analyst wanna-be. The last time a Tales game pulled a 350-400k FW and 550-600k LTD was Abyss on PS2 in 2005.
Xillia doing that shouldn't surprise anyone? lol

The packed lineup won't be boosting PS3 sales but it'll help it maintain a high, stable level, which otherwise could have slumped into 4-digits in low-sales-months like October. But being as packed as it is, PS3 should keep its head over the 20k-mark.
Also, there's no pricedrop in the horizon with the new model and planned ToX bundle set already (9/8). After that, we'll see.

There aren't near 100k left in channel though. And a similar bomba bin situation hasn't seemed to keep other titles from getting reprints (FFXIII PS3 up next).

And this wouldn't be "for the sake of it", it'd be to move some units and there's little investment or risk at play here, it's pure profit now. It just seems odd to me that Tri's the only major MH to not get a reprint (besides P2), as well as Capcom's only major Wii game not to get a reprint. It actually sticks out, it's more questionable that it hasn't happened yet than anything.

Reprinting MH3 right now is a joke and FFXIII reprint is a joke too.

Maybe a 3DS version is on the way?
