Dont really look at these threads so much but it's crazy that the 3DS has passed PS3 and gonna pass WII already.

Consoles are really dead in japan.

Tsutaya Chart also said Toukiden single SKU sells more than Friend Collection: New Life last week and this week...

Tsutaya is a single retailer (albeit bigger than COMG). There's dozens more chains where you can buy games, though and their charts and comments on sales should only ever be taken for that store.

Interesting that Toukiden PSP has had longer legs than Toukiden Vita despite that the 2:1 initial sales for Vita. Vita ver. legs still good but the PSP catching up ltd.

Dat God Eater hype.

I wonder what it would signal for publishers if Toukiden PSP is able to catch/keep up to/with Toukiden PSV. I think publishers can do multiplatform releases like Toukiden (and the upcoming God Eater 2) and see lots of success.

No doubt both versions are selling well.

Interested to see Pikmin due to the people who said its only been two days in regards to its mediocre sales.

Could it have a higher second week than usual?

Hyperbole in video games forums: is such a thing possible? Yes it is.

People - some - were expecting a bigger launch week than the previous games when it "only" performed in line (roughly 100k). It's correct, not mediocre. Hardware bump was mediocre though.

sequels generally front load more so expecting more in the line of p2 rather than 1 i don't think is an "incorrect" way of thinking.

Potential decline based on time between sequels and the incredibly poor performance of the hardware vs potential gains in it being the only decently big game to be released i half a year are harder to predict.

Call me an optimist but I do still think it's way too early to write the Wii U off even based on the data available in all the charts that were very usefully added to the forum.

Wii_ titles on Wii U obviously won't be as popular as it was on the Wii, I don't think anyone ever expected them to save the Wii U, its better than not releasing at all.

I still say NCL should do everything they can to dissociate Wii_ from those titles. Renaming them might seem silly, but Wii_ is of no help whatsoever.

It's kind of a difficult thing to decide IMO, largely thanks to Nintendo's incompetence at the end of the Wii's generation.

On one hand, the "Wii" name was on 100 million consoles sold. It is also on software that sold an insane amount of copies. I think you can reasonably conclude that there is still some interest/mind share with that name, plus you have full backwards compatibility.

On the other hand, Nintendo A-let the system die the last 2 years and B- made the "Wii" name toxic for a segment gamers as the "kiddie system", etc.

So yeah. Kind of a dilemma for Nintendo.

I think the Wii U's performance is a counter argument to the Wii name retaining any mind share.

I think Wii Sports might still have something to it but Wii Fit is going to perform the worst out of Wii_ titles. The fitness genre has just completely fallen away. The dance games that boomed with motion controls still sell but the recent fitness titles barely scratched the charts even in post new year where they used to be quite huge movers.

.

There has clearly been brand erosion, absolutely, but I do feel the price is a somewhat significant barrier (well, especially outside of Japan).

The price is definitely a factor. I'd be willing to bet the drop will come in October, thats where a good bunch of high profile games start to show up. It's a bit telegraphed even, not quite as much as Vita's jp drop but I'm confident thats when it will be.

Has there even been that many fitness game released in Japan?

I ask because while Wii Party pretty much failed in NA/EU, in Japan it did rather well as, I'm guessing, there weren't that many party games that saturated the market. Of course, Wii Fit being on Wii U will cut its potential, but I'm talking about a possible sales disparity between Japan and the West.

In addition to that, I think the brand is in serious need of content enhancement in order to stay competitive with Nintendo's traditional AAA IPs. More packed-in content, future DLC, online features, leaderboards, etc. Not everyone's going to bite on the clean, cute minimalist presentation of the Wii_ games this round - they simply need more meat.

Didn't Wii Party sold better in Europe than in Japan ?
