Of the 5 racks of download cards for Splatoon 2 at my 7-11, all of them were empty this afternoon when I went to grab a soda.

I wonder if we could be heading for a massive discrepancy between MC and famitsu, with only the latter counting download cards, theres also amazon to consider where the download card was number one last time i looked but they are only tracked by MC who dont count the cards

Because in that case, people are more lining up for the console than the game itself.

And in other cases, because used market is pretty big in Japan, and there's no way for you to sell games bought digitally short of selling the actual console they're installed on.

Looking at the huge disparity in hardware numbers, it's not like we can rely on that being the only difference.

Culture and the used market is huge. You can't exactly resell your digital shit.

I mean, did Fate/Extella really ever have a chance?

A year old port of a seemingly mediocre game that didn't blow up the charts in the first place, releasing a day before Splatoon 2.

Yet a bomb will inevitably prove that third party games don't sell on a Nintendo platform...

Noa2 will be more telling.

Pre-orders on PS systems are okay, but we haven't seen anything on the Switch version pre-orders yet. Is that because those aren't available yet?

(I think NOA2 will bomb on Switch anyway.)

I don't think Fate/Extella is a good example to show that third party games don't sell on Nintendo platforms. NoA2 will be a better example, but there has to be an audience transition with titles like these. Remember, these games didn't sell amazingly on the PS4 at first either. They had to move over from PS3/Vita.

As for Fate/Extella's performance on PS4 and Vita (Media Create):

Code:
19./04. [PSV] Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star # <ACT> (Marvelous) {2016.11.10} (¥6.980) - 3.929 / 86.224 (-58%) [SPOILER]---Nov 27, 2016 numbers[/SPOILER]

05./02. [PS4] Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star # <ACT> (Marvelous) {2016.11.10} (¥7.980) - 8.723 / 76.079 (-87%) [SPOILER]---Nov 20, 2016 numbers[/SPOILER]

06./00. [PS4] Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star - Velber Box {PlayStation 4 \ PlayStation Vita} <ACT> (Marvelous) {2016.11.10} (¥19.990) - 18.439 / NEW

It did well on launch, but dropped pretty hard. I guess that didn't do the Switch version too well.

Unless the third party games that are launching simultaneously with PS4 start bombing on Switch, I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. There is also the Western sales to take into account that might fare better perhaps.

30% for Fate/Extella on Switch ? Does not sound good. I believe that the initial shipment will not be that huge, so I guess that his will be more than 5k and less than 10k.

Poor game, maybe they had a better chance if it was released at the beginning of the month

I honestly don't think that a full price late port of a game that has already been on a handheld and collapsed after week 1 sales previously, ever had much of a chance.

Being released on Steam same day/within a few days of release also damages its western chances imo.

Might do a little better than 30% suggests with new switch owners buying systems today and tomorrow

Well obviously it won't stop at 30%, there's 3 other days for it this week, but I highly doubt people getting a Switch this week will buy another game than Splatoon 2. Maybe Zelda, Mario Kart, or even ARMS, but certainly not Fate/EXTELLA.

Oh i know it wont do good, could see some people picking it up though

The Online App is going to have a massive amount of downloads and monthly users just because of people ordering Splatoon gear.

It was posted before. And the other of games should be the one I posted, because it's from higher sales to lower sales.

I don't think releasing Fate/Extella near Splatoon 2 mattered much. It's a late port for a specific fanbase that would have bought the PS4/Vita version in the first place. Not to mention it's not a title that had particularly glowing word of mouth.

Will be interesting to see how these niche games fare both in Japan and globally - and what it means for continued Switch support from smaller devs. I wouldn't be surprised if Nights of Azure 2 sells only a fraction of the PS4 version's sales in Japan, but on par - if not better even - worldwide.

How sad is it that the oyear thing we will be able to comment about next week for Switch is its production ramp up schedule?

Hey, we could always bring back Monster Hunter talk if you want ;)

Ask Nintendo to release games on Thursday instead of Friday, and we will get it.

Or Media Create could simply adapt to the new release date for Nintendo games and provide the Day 1 sellthrough on Saturday instead of Friday.

Speaking of Friday releases, remembered that Metroid: Samus Returns also comes out on Friday in Japan, despite being on 3DS. Really curious, though I guess I'm the only one who cares about that.

PSN isn't loading on my end, guess the summer sale is overloading it.

I was able to check the rankings a few days ago though, FFXII was #1 on PS4, doesn't seem like Gundam saw a steep drop there, most top 20 was games sale.

Its kind of crappy Vita doesn't get such sales.

The fact that it's a port of abad game kinda plays a part in it so that probably wouldn't have helped.

Media Create is off on weekends, are you asking them to work one more day (6 days a week), just to adapt Nintendo's schedule?

So from anecdotal evidence, was there a significant increase in switch stock or was it only marginal ?

Based on what we've heard in this thread then the bundle restock was not very high, but this doesn't account for preorders, and there is still another restock tomorrow.
