I realize that I'm more interested in the 3-4 weeks post Splatoon than the week itself. (unless it's ridiculously low or high, like 40k or 250k)

I do hope we see 100-200k this week and then generally better than previous weeks thereafter.

If it rockets right back down, that'll be sad.

Hopefully just a bit higher than that. If it can sell 200k this week, 75k next week, and 75k for the week of Monster Hunter, and hover around 50k on normal weeks, it has a good chance of matching 3DS to 2 million. Although if the lack of units is due to production problems and not bundles, then there is no chance.

Bic Camera Yurakucho didn't have a lottery on Monday, unlike other stores. Since almost all retailers saw big restocks this week, including amazon, maybe we'll see similar numbers this time.

Is it just me, or is there next to no correlation between the shipment Bic receives and the total weekly sales? The week that received their highest shipment by far was ultimately a completely average week overall.

if Bic Camera had around 2x shipments compared to last week I really doubt 200k is doable...

Thing is we really have no idea about preorders. Like how many preorders could each store take? How many did Nintendo/Amazon/Rakuten take? If they could do only 1000, online Joshin/Yamada/Bic/Yodobashi only 500, their big stores could do 100, and the small stores 10, and even smaller stores get left out, there could still at least be 20k preorders. But I don't think preorders were that tightly restricted. *shrug* I don't know if they did get 200k, but I don't know if looking at just the numbers retailers had for lottery over the weekend would help us figure that out much.

Next week will show how much Nintendo will push Splatoon bundle in the future.
Apart from the unknown preordered units it had a big share at lotteries.

Everything was around Splatoon 2 and today, Nintendo provived plenty of stock for everything around Switch, expect the system itself.

Big drama with Switch units the entire week, everyone was asking for it but demand far exceeded supply.

So Switch is basically like Wii back then in japan now:p Huge demand but not enough supplies.

There is no doubt demand is big for Switch but at the same time how big this demand really is WW is impossible to determine as stock situation is so bad.

According to Nintendo, about 850k Switches will ship each month into 2018. For November and December they need to have double that, so they should be stockpiling ~350k a month. That leaves only about 500k per month to actually sell, worldwide. Japan will not get 400k in the next month.

Apparently Nintendo didn't hesitate to provide big shipments for Splatoon 2, Saturday ended and no supply problems appeared. The expected crazy attach rate isn't far.

Apparently Nintendo didn't hesitate to provide big shipments for Splatoon 2, Saturday ended and no supply problems appeared. The expected crazy attach rate isn't far.
Now the question is will the following weeks go back to small shipments or will there be an increase in their baseline?

Should start seeing a slow increase, western markets are definitely seeing a realization in improve production even if it is slight. There's a distinct supply rate now thats much better from what it was in April/late June.

If Nintendo gives an increased FY forecast for Switch at Wednesday, rise at shipments will come very soon.

First we must see how much they shipped last quarter.

Nice, would have been a bummer if Splatoon got throttled by lack of new hardware.
Actually, that is the case: Nintendo provided everything plentifully except Switch units, although they most likely did give several factors more than last week. Edit: See post 575 for a statement from Gamesmaya about it.

Speaking for Splatoon 2 sinobi gave a title with 100% attach rate in Japan at its first weeks.

Super Mario World hit 1m when Super Famicom hit 1m.

Final LTDs for both were 3,55m / 17,15m.

edit: Initial shipment for Super Famicom was 300k.

The system launched at 1990.11.21 and shipments until 1991.03.31 were 1,44m.

Good point. I don't think their forecasts will change much this year tbh, but their production should be more flexible.

Splatoon 2 is going to be a mega evergreen title. The new mode is addictive as hell and the game is already more full featured than Splatoon 1 was by the final content update.

I wonder if Splatoon 2 could be this gen's Monster Hunter, in terms of growth and evolution. It is booming thanks to the addition of local play, being on a portable system and I think we'll see many kids play it outside with their friends.

I definitely agree with your assessment. That's why I feel confident in stating Splatoon 2 has a very good chance at surpassing 4 million units sold in Japan as long as Switch doesn't suddenly fall off a cliff for some odd reason.
