Western indies I mean.

Level-5, Wonder Flick, for instance. There are plenty of indie games out already (Shovel Knight, WayForward's stuff, Unepic etc.) that are even Wii U exclusive.

I don't really expect anyone to be developing much for anything that is not handheld or mobile until late generation when bigger fry like Atlus show up to the party. Sales are the means by which all is revealed ;).
How is Level-5 niche when they have titles like Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Youkai Watch that sold millions of copies?

I was actually going to mention something similar to what Psycho_Mantis is trying to say yesterday.

After multiple of previously big in Japan IPs (one of or the biggest console Nintendo IP in Japan launched not too long ago), the Wii U is currently selling under 10k. The PS4 is selling around 5-6k with one big Japanese game (and it's a cross-gen title). Unless Japan becomes completely uninterested in consoles when the big titles come, the PS4 can only go up from here.

There's a few known big titles Japanese titles coming early 2015 and there's more chances of surprise hit new Western/Japanese IPs (Destiny is apparently one of the most wanted games on Famitsu. GTAV and Destiny could help ease the wait for Bloodborne and MGS5 then FF15/KH3 (lol)). I'm assuming that's what Psycho means when he implied the PS4's future is looking better than the Wii U in Japan.
PS4's brighter future pretty much rests solely on FFXV and how much of a recovery it can stage in 2+ years. PS4's lucky in that it didn't lose it's hardware driving tentpole like Vita did, but by the time it does come around it may honestly be too late.

GTAV, Destiny and Bloodborne? Is this PlayStation 360 or something?

How is Level-5 niche when they have titles like Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Youkai Watch that sold millions of copies?

Wonderflick is on every system under the sun. Its a rare case and I'm surprised L5 are releasing it on so many platforms. I wonder if they still are. I heard its not doing too well.

So yeah I'm still not seeing any niche Japanese stuff.

I edited the word "niche" into the post afterwards. Maybe not a good idea and poor choice of words, as I see it a bit differently and hence it lead to misinterpretation. For instance, Wonder Flick is no Final Fantasy XV. I drew a line for home consoles somewhere between stuff that's heavily franchised, games whose brands are heavily tied to a single platform and games that fit neither of those two categories. The latter is what I was referring to in my previous posts as a competing point for Wii U. So you can hopefully see that niche was perhaps not the best choice of words, but what the intended meaning was. The million sellers mao2 mentioned are all handheld/mobile I believe (not that I intended to imply Level-5 itself in my reasoning).

Interesting. Where did you get these numbers?

I see the 2 million and 3 million announcements on a Google search, and the 5 million one here: http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/ir/library/docs/140512/page06.html

Square Enix said:
Major titles released for smart devices during the FY2014/3 and beyond include "DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS SUPER LIGHT," which has achieved more than 5 million downloads.
"SANGOKUSHI RANBU," "DEADMAN'S CROSS," "SCHOOLGIRL STRIKERS" and others have done favorably as well.

I'm curious where these are collected too since I know a lot of Japanese publishers do announce every 1 million downloads for their flagships.

Monster Strike is currently the #1 top grossing app in Japan, and has single-handedly lead to a 20 times increase of Mixi's stock price. They are now worth over $4 billion USD.

Lots of links explaining the list items at the link.

I should have invested in mixi when I first learned about Monstrike back in December >_<

If you want to get an idea about why it's growing faster than PAD, picture the waifu gacha collectibility of PAD and combine it with Monhan-esque local multiplayer.

In the HD games area, we have several titles to be released this FY2015/3, among others, we will soon release "MURDERED: Soul Suspect," a single-player and highly story-driven game. This title is being developed jointly with our team in Japan and Airtight Games in the US, and will be released on multiple platforms including PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. We expect to achieve a level of success since the game has been highly praised by the market’s previews.

Suddenly everything related to recent Digimon games makes sense. Cyber Sleuth has the potential to be huge.

It all makes sense now. Cyber Sleuth could do good numbers now. I mean the game already looks great but with anime it could potentially do much better.

People seem pretty fond of the new Tales of Link updates. It's holding better and peaking higher than it has in a while, despite the fact that the top 100 is largely an ever increasing bar to meet.

What are they releasing for Vita in the next couple months that's going to sell so many copies?

And looks like they are expecting great things from Sonic Boom 3DS, lol.

I bet PSNova got delayed a quarter and they didn't bother to update the forecasts.

You can check the previous forecast and it's exactly the same for all systems.

Normally I would guess they were booking sales to select retailers early, but selling in September for a November release seems a bit soon.

I guess it's not impossible.

Maybe is the physical version of Phantasy Star Online 2 Episode 3. They released the Episode 1 and 2 physically and on short notice.

Capcom's already confirmed they're publishing 2 Wii U retail titles this FY so there's going to be at least one more than that.

At this point it's just eShop stuff not worth mentioning, like ASW's Family games or Kemco's smartphone ports. All the bigger publishers (except Konami) are still putting out a title or two annually but even if the platform's sales improve I doubt we'll see much change in 3rd party support.

Capcom has? o_O. That's more support than I was expecting. Apart from maybe a MH4U, what else do you think we could expect? I suppose these would release in 2015.

Your wrong.

Those titles are guaranteed to come to the PS4. Where else are they going to go? They pretty much represent some of the biggest franchises those JP companies have and a lot of their sales come form the West if not the majority.

At least spell "You're" correctly when you're saying that....

You completely missed my point. Like I said in that post (quoted below) UNLESS they have a market in the West there's no guarantee there will be any titles on PS4, or on home consoles at all for that matter.

ZSaberLink said:

Thus, Japanese-centric titles such Tales, Yakuza, etc. could take a long time before they come to PS4 exclusively and might just remain cross-gen (PS3/PS4) for a long while. Yakuza has no market in the West, and Tales has a small one (I think it has a larger Western one on Nintendo platforms thanks to Symphonia, but Namco couldn't care less). GTA is a Western title, so it's very likely the next one is going to release on PS4/XB1. If the PS4 is selling miserably in Japan when the next Yakuza is supposed to release, who says they'll make it PS4 only? I'm also doubtful of SCEJ's 1st party output. Like shinra said, these companies already have their foot halfway out the door for home consoles (making like 1-2 titles each), so why is such a huge stretch that they may exit the home console industry entirely eventually? Yes I hope they do release these games on consoles, but I highly doubt some of these series could simply survive on shrinking Japanese sales.

Okami would rock so hard. They said no to MH4U Wii U, but I think that's just a "deny until true" situation.

Basara 4 maybe?

My inner child is screaming. The original Digimon Adventure was one of my favorite series as a child and even now I watch it again every 2 years or so. Can't wait to see DA3.

Hopefully there will be a re-run of the old episodes in glorious HD and 16:9 format. And hopefully not just in Japan.

I want Digimon Adventure in glorious HD.

Again you are wrong. GUST, Falcom, NIS, D3 all have PS4 games coming out or in dev and in most cases those games get the vast majority of their sales in Japan.

I don't get it. You think PS4 is not going to get an exclusive Yakuza or Tales in the future? Do you think that its not guaranteed? Its obvious it will take some time for it to happen but that was never the argument (PS3 got its first exclusive Yakuza 3 years after its release......the first exclusive next gen Tales game came 3 years after 360's release).

Tales of Xillia as of October 2013 has sold 1 million. 230k in the West.

You're doubtful that Sony is not going to make another Hot Shots when I just showed you a tweet that says the dev is hiring for a golf game and Yoshida has tweeted it.

Including multiple releases,

HSG Out of Bounds : 713k

Surely you can't be doubtful that GT7 is coming? All the games I mentioned in that post are guaranteed to come to PS4.

Wasn't Out of Bounds the best selling title of the series by far? The more recent one hasn't sold as well in comparison. You might be right about the tweet, I haven't been paying attention to that. Did the job posting or w/e actually say PS4? If so, good to hear.

To quote Princess Bride "I do not think it means what you think it means".

Likely does not mean guaranteed. We'll see if and when these games release. DQXI is likely on 3DS yet it hasn't been announced. It's not guaranteed. That's what I'm meaning for these PS4 games. I'm just thinking that the PS4 and console gaming might become fairly irrelevant in Japan by then if these developers don't hurry up. Sure the games released very late on PS3, but at least the Wii was quite successful, and Microsoft was targeting the Japanese audience very hard with the 360 during that time.

I hope you are not serious about using Famitsu Most Wanted chart to gauge how the game will perform. It will sell 1/10 what MH4G and Pokemon OR/AS sells while ranking above it on that chart.

It's called interest. And besides, selling 1/10 of the best selling IPs in Japan is still a few hundred thousands, which is good. What was the point of mentioning Monster Hunter and Pokemon?

Selling 1/10th of MH4G would be an astronomical overperform for Destiny. It will likely do a lot worse than that.

Really? It seems like FPS's have started doing a lot better in JP. I'm guessing it's LTD will be around 320K to 350K, with a first week sale of 220K.
Maybe it's not 1/10th of MH4G but I doubt it's going to bomb.
