07./10. [3DS] Kirby: Planet Robobot <ACT> (Nintendo) {2016.04.28} (¥4.700) - 11.141 / 367.615 (+83%)

Pokémon-adjacent bump? Maybe?

Edit: probably mainly summer holidays as L~A mentioned above.

Yo-Kai, though....

Actually, Yo-kai Watch 3 drop isn't that bad.
Third week:

01./01. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad <ACT> (Level 5) {2015.07.11} (¥4.968) - 95.369 / 1.009.905 (-57%)

01./01. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura <RPG> (Level 5) {2016.07.16} (¥4.800) - 100.105 / 901.023 (-41%)

Sales are finally higher than Busters weekly. The problem are total sales, still lower due to bad first and second weeks. So this week is some kind of hope.

Toukiden 2's design, development and promotion was all focused on the PS4 version. The Vita version of the game ended up looking like the PSP version of the first one. Toukiden was a handheld franchise and KT tried to shove it into a home console one. As reflected in the sales for the game, that was a horrible idea.

That looks like a good hold for ys.
Celceta did <5k in MC in its second week.

Those toukiden numbers sting, they really put effort into the game :( This wasn't some low budget fan service game. What is going on in Japan?

I'm guessing they've done it thinking about western sales.

Toukiden :(

Vita hardware consistently sells >10k units a week and PS4 >20k. WHAT THE HECK ARE THESE PEOPLE PLAYING???
Used games that have been released so far.

Can one of you explain what you mean for those that haven't been following it that closely?
Made the game open world and focused on the PS4 version even though it was unnecessary. This also botched up the Vita version as a result. The result shows the audience is halved.

I doubt this is going to gain them anything from the Western audience.

RIP Toukiden Franchise! It sad really how they let this happen!

They could had gone with segmented areas for Vita rather than pushing a psp level open world. And the world is not that even huge tbh. In the corridors that connect large zones they easily could had made loading screens or something.

Framedrops on large onis were completely unacceptable.

You mean a market where the first game underperformed on stationary platforms? Sacrificing your proven market for one that's questionable sounds like bad business.
Vita is dead long term, no point even trying to cling on. Even Sony themselves have turned their backs on the handheld market.

It's probably not a franchise killer. They still have the kiwami version to release and its mostly reused assets in the first place. They do have to think long and hard about what to do with it though if they make a 3.

Splatoon is finally slowing down in Japan. I think the bundle's price created some kind of barrier. More than 39,000¥ with taxes is very expensive. Wii U hardware (Splatoon bundle) is fully available.

Well, Koei-Tecmo managed to successfully destroy Toukiden huh? On the plus side, the PS4 version didn't perform half as badly as I'd expect. On the flip side, they managed to crater the Vita version by putting zero effort into optimizing it. So where does this leave the IP? Not enough to sustain itself on PS4 and they're not interested in pursuing it further on Vita. Rubbish.

Also Puzzles and Dragons, what a disaster. Can't believe they went from a 1m selling first entry to this.

And World's Longest Five Minutes. I don't even have any words. Of all the NISA games they picked to localize, this one haha. I mean it looks interesting I guess, hope it gains some more niche appeal in the west than it has in Japan.

But hey, Minecraft Vita continuing to legs, which is something.. May overtake the WiiU version in weekly sales again soon.

45~ millions of PS4 users>12~ millions of Vita users. The sales potential is greater on PS4 no matter the game when comparred to Vita. It's a business decision. Now, if it's a GOOD business decision for the west, is remained to be seen.

True! So rather than working on a game with Vita design structure with pretty graphics they should had gone with Toukiden 2 PS4 only edition with better world and quest design. But no they chose to do vita version also clearly shows there is still money to be made and PS4 only would had been an even bigger bomba.

I'd agree with the whole west thing if Koei Tecmo's actions with Toukiden 2 matched that. This is a game that has yet to be announced for a western release and has a Vita and PS3 build, which isn't uncommon for KT games ... that are predominantly aimed at Japan. Compare the treatment of Nioh to Toukiden 2 and you'll see a very large difference in handling. One had global betas and marketing launches. The other has yet to be announced for western release.

That plus Nintendo has made it clear there would be no more Splatfest, so I guess interest is dropping a bit.

Besides, there's only so much a game can grow, especially on Wii U. Splatoon already has an insane attach rate, after all.

The real test will be after the holidays.
