So the more they sell the more money they lose?

Nintendo better hope those production costs go down soon.
Production costs is actually the issue. The more they sell the faster they will make money.

Right now production is slow and thus its costing more for Nintendo. They get the 3DS into the DS groove and they will be mass producing them and thus cutting the loss

I don't see the price cut doing anything beyond the first week. Unless there's another 100,000 people who have been waiting to play zelda again.

It will get people to stop buying dsi's instead at the very least.

If only MS didn't bribe Japanese shmup developers so good this generation, the PS3 would be THE console for this genre :(

So any form of monetary support is a bribe?
Because they were (half) trying to make their system desirable in a market they did so poorly in before?

I just noticed now MHP3 left the Famitsu top 30 two weeks ago, after 33 weeks. Black and White is still holding strong with 46 consecutive weeks.

Well, I guess that's it for MH franchise.
Massive decline incoming.
Party's over, Capcom.

Well, one doesn't have an HD Re-release announced. I'm sure once Gray gets an announcement Pokemon B/W will be just as dead as MHP3.

I don't think the HD releases is the reason MHP3 stopped selling.

MHP3 "stopped" selling because it's running out of potential buyers. The franchise doesn't have an unlimited fanbase.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Speaking of MHP3rd HD, and slightly off topic, but does it have trophy support?

I want numbers for the first day of sale of the 3DS at its current price point. The rest is as superfluous as yellow jelly sea cucumbers. Hear me God of Japan (and GAF) !

I think it'll stabilize at around 40k a week. If it doesn't, then it's in critical condition and is unlikely to ever recover.
With so many sub-40K weeks, these two have little chance of getting anywhere.

Not that either are dead, but Diamond/Pearl made 7 more Top 30 appearances after Platinum's release.

Bringing this up makes me curious how D/P and B/W are comparing at this point.
B-PERC-2FW

Oh wow. Looks like B/W just fell behind within the last month.

get6-2 which isn't the most reliable source gives an estimate (more like guess) of 100k sales for first day.

Pokemon doesn't seem to have a very strong start.

No shocker so far, the price cut has been the problem all along. The long term problem may be game releases, sure, but the old DS models at the same price have been selling great in the US, and PSP has been selling #1 at what is now the 3DS' price point, and the 3DS wasn't selling zero or anything before the drop.

Not sure why people doubt that the price drop would make a big splash, I don't recall a time when a next-gen device has been dropped to the level of a legacy model, ever. Drastic measures get drastic results.

Probably because that the software offering isnt THAT good, so there could be less reason to buy a 3DS even if it had such a big pricedrop.

Pokemon will surely do better during the week end.
It's a spin off, so it doesnt'have to appeal since the very first day...and now it has the console at the right price to do it.

I know Sony doesn't need to for now becuase its selling quite well, but do you guys think there is any chance Sony will drop the price on the PSP to crap on Nintendo's parade?

Only if the PSP sales takes a noticeably hit in sales i think. But if the PSP contunie to sell aproximately what it is doing, then i dont think that Sony has any rush to drop the PSP price just yet.

I suppose hardware.
And get6-2 has been not so bad with predictions recently... so, 3DS should have sold 90-100k for real.
Great, if this is the case: it could even do 200k at the end of the week, if Obon helps a lot.

Well, this price cut definitely came too early. :/ Looks like another four months of doom is on the way... I'll revise my guess to over 30k every single week between now and December.

I think another reason is that 3DS as a hardware doesn't offer much, I mean they could have increased the camera resolution, made more apps and services such as a youtube player, added chat support, etc. I really liked the upgrade from DS lite to DSi (not that I actually had a DS lite, but I played with extra function of DSi specially camera, flipnote, and browser a lot, and thought it was really worth of what I paid more for it)

Tales of the Abyss is one of the game which have risen recently on Amazon, alongside
SF,now in top60 and OP, that saw a drastic gain today.
In the meanwhile, MH has already a 30% of reduction of price.

To those who don't remember, Dengeki estimated ~190k first week shipments and it has sold-through only 114k after 3 weeks with no signs it'll have any legs at all.

A different situation from Kirby Mass Attack, which even with only a 30% sell-through in the first week will probably go past the initial shipment. "Epic Yarn" has almost doubled the first week shipment of 240k and had a low sell-through too -- 40%.
