Continuing on with the NSMB2 discussion what was the DS userbase when NSMB released? Although I still don't think userbase is the big issue here. Oh by the way Wii sales are really surprisingly good.

3DS sales above 100k.

DQX will depend on subs, but still a good for a Wii MMO I suppose.

Wii bumpage.

P4 Arena will pass 150k.

NSMB2 didn't break that hard on followup sales.

But it's deserved. even as a Mario fan, NSMB2 doesn't excite me.

For an MMO I think so. Also remember the Wii U version will be out at some point and I bet SE will get a decent amount of double dippers. They might get to a million copies sold+ sub fees.

I agree NSMB2 sales are either

A) really disappointing
B) there are lot of downloads off the E-shop
C) Obon will do something?

But DQX's sales are good.

Also DQX will be the most profitable DQ of all time when it's all said and done. Nintendo is likely to take care of the Wii U version if it ever comes stateside.

I'm going to say yes if they're good and no if they're not.

Indeed. As good as it (probably) is, it's a standard sequel and not what we really expect from Nintendo.

If it had been a New Super Mario World (which probably wouldn't have taken much more development) I wonder if the sales would have been higher?

I guess we'll see when New Super Mario Bros U comes out how the brand is really doing but this could signal Nintendo was wrong when they said they didn't need to change 2d Mario because they were giving people what they expected.

A couple really interesting things to note:

3DS - The LL truly hasn't replaced the OG 3DS in the eyes of consumers at this point. It truly is a new SKU that people are excited about, with OG 3DS holding firmly around 42k. It will be interesting to see where the LL settles and if it just becomes a permanent bump in 3DS total sales.

Wii - Obviously the bump is huge. The Wii COULD be on track to have a bigger year in 2012 than 2011. It really hangs on when the Wii U releases. If the Wii falls back to around 10k per week after this it would need about 8 weeks to surpass last year's total. Amazing.

3DS will hit 7 million in the next two weeks baring a shock drop.

Vita may not hit a million until end of year holidays, and even then who knows how big a bump it'll get.

It's an MMO, I don't feel the normal 2+ million is feasible.

That's why what they report for sub numbers (or in lieu, dead silence) will be important.

DQX= good I think, and bodes pretty well for the Wii U version.

NSMB2-Hmm..I hesitate to say too much given the long legged nature of 2D mario, but I think this is disappointing. NSMB U sales will be interesting.

Well what do you know, releasing blockbuster games will still sell old hardware? Colour me surprised.

I still think that Oni Training will remain a huge bomb unless they lower the price considerably. Should've been a 6 bucks eshop release.
