How is Splatoon doing as a online multiplayer focused game? Is it the best-selling compared to FFXI, DQX etc.?

And is that a good result for Animal Crossing being a spin-off? It feels like it probably is but I have no idea of the expectations for such a thing.

DQX has definitely sold over a million copies across all platforms, and I'd wager FF14 has sold at least as many copies in Japan.

Splatoon's definitely the most successful pure shooting game in Japan, but it's still behind broadly similar games like RE5/6.

Basically beating Awakening's LTD already is a pretty solid accomplishment not accounting for the legs which could probably end around 450k retail when all said and done. Plus the West is a bigger contributor to the series' sales

That Q1 mass release bombardment really helped to rise the baseline of PS4. It's selling over 3x of last year with only some minor games in the charts. Good to see. Animal Crossing also killing like always.

Ah I see.

But I don't think Splatoon is similar to RE games. RE imo are still mainly single player experiences. I would compare RE to something like The Last Of Us. There's online, but it's not why people buy the games for. The MP mode isn't the attraction. Isn't RE Online mode more co-op focused than competitive? I have all RE games, but never bothered to play online.

I gotta say, for almost no software, PS4 is still staying afloat.

Well, maybe no software is harsh. No software in top 10.

Gives me hope that PS4 isn't dead yet in Japan. They are just waiting. Really hope SE, Sony, Atlus, etc. going fucking all out for TGS.
