Media Create Sales: Week 31, 2016 (Aug 01 - Aug 07)

Atlus just mentioned the sales on Twitter, and talked of "strong" sales for the digital version.

https://twitter.com/SQ_kouhou/status/763372576659738624

So yeah, EOV definitely outsold EOIV. Just with about 3k digital sales, we'd get 3% digital ratio, which seems a bit too low. I'd say digital sales are about 5-7k max.

Real test will be total sales. Curious to see where it'll land. Honestly, expecting the game to end up slightly below EOIV for LTD sales.

Better news than I thought then, nice!

Capcoms unannounced Monster Hunter is totally for Ps Trinity guys!

lol

Ahahah

Why are you using old numbers? Make sense post actual numbers

[3DS] Pokémon Sun / Moon - 602
[PS4] Final Fantasy XV - 206
[PS4] Tales of Berseria - 148
[PS4] Persona 5 - 127
[PS3] Tales of Berseria - 113
[PS3] Persona 5 - 40
[3DS] Monster Hunter Stories - 21
[PS4] Yakuza 6 - 20

lol is it wrong that I imagine you as an on edge person irl?
At least when it comes to numbers >_>

I thought Pokemon was at 500. it did not reach 600 yet.

Seriously, what happened to yokai watch? I remember yw2 selling over a million first week and that was only 2 years ago.

I feel something drastic happened that turned people off. I've never seen a franchise that was so popular fall this quickly in popularity.

Pokemon killed it. 💁🏼

Isn't that $40 in American dollars? That doesn't seem to be much of an impact unless 3DS games are priced differently.
It's 4900 yen by default. The bigger reason it's notable though is that once notable discounts start happening in Japan, new shipments will frequently slow down or stop.

Well, this new DW don't even had any hyped like at all, so i can see why it is flopping. I still question Koei herr. Why won't they make a new Samurai Warriors Chronicles with proper chronicle mode here on handheld.

I always feel that they are underpresented on handheld market.

The remaining shipments of YW3 should clear up by the holidays anyway.

It's still likely a million seller, which is pretty good considering the slight milking situation.

This Dynasty Warriors is an SRPG, not a musou. That pushes away a large portion of their usual audience, other than people who really like the vanilla DW cast.

Imo DW's main [3+a forces fighting each other] setting might have made it difficult to make a Chronicle game that differs from Empires. Sengoku time on the other hand had a lot of major events before it narrowed down to battle of Sekigahara and then Osaka.

Still would love to see one though

To be honest, being both Zhao Yun and SRPG fan I might have given it a try had it not turned me off by introducing 2 original fantasy-ish characters I have 0 interest in. I imagine it's worse for those who don't even like Zhao Yun or Shu.

I don't know where to get the numbers myself, so I pasted numbers that I remembered being posted earlier in the week. And there's such a huge difference between those new numbers and the ones from 3 days ago. Chill out.

Wait, is Eiketsuden a spiritual successor to Dynasty Tactics? Because that was the BEST SRPG EVER
except for one cheesy move you could exploit to win every battle.

Made some quick calculations, and the 3DS needs about 47k/week to reach 22 million units before the end of the year. Gonna be tough, especially if there's no price drop.

I believe the PS2 is within reach. Maybe GameBoy too?

I think the Game Boy ended its life at ~30m units sold.

As for the PS2, the 3DS passing it has been guaranteed for some time now.

More like Aori and Hotaru.

On the subject of YW3, I'm hesitant about calling it a flop. While it's definitely a disappointment, it wouldn't be the first time a hot property suffers a big drop early in its existence while still remaining highly successful from there on (read: Pokémon). At the end of the day, YW3 will probably sell around 1.5 million copies. Disappointing after the highs of 2 and Busters and the 1:1 comparisons to Pokémon, but still AAA territory.

When do we expect Dragon Quest XI will release in Japan?
2016 or you think SquareEnix will delay the game in 2017?

I don't know what retailers were thinking when they accepted the 300k extra shipment of Yo-kai Watch 3.
Well the first shipment is basically over and YW3 , despite underperforming, is still one of the biggest game of the year.
It makes sense to order a bit more.

I think it's pretty safe to say it was always a 2017 title.

Considering it's August and they've said nothing new about it all year and Horii apparently was not confident about it making the 30th anniversary year it's definitely not this year. When in 2017 will they release it? I think around the middle of the year.

Oh yeah, you're right. For some reason, I was thinking 22m instead of 32m.

Well according to Game Data Library:

GB: 32 470 000 (Nintendo)
PS2: 21 980 000 (Famitsu)
3DS: 21 630 000 (Nintendo)

But I was looking for MC number, since I was talking of MC data (3DS isn't at 21m yet for Famitsu).

22m for the 3DS is a lock, maybe even this year but I'm not too hopeful. 23m would probably depend on how fast the 3DS dies (Nintendo consoles generally die faster, due to Nintendo pushing the new ones harder).

With Moon and Sun and a pricedrop i can see 3DS selling about the same of last year.

3DS sold 1.22 million last year August to December. Considering 3DS need about 1 million for sells 22 million, yes i think it easy will.

Unless sales drop like a rock, i think it can sell over 23 million lifetime.

wild guess:
- promotion event = December 2016 = Jump Festa
- earliest = March 2017 / 30th anniversary end = May 2017 / latest = Aug 2017 (summer)
**March is thin chance, if they can do that month mean DQXI will be NX launch title?! nahhh~ never never
DQXI, Nier automata, and FFXII Zodiac, plus KH3 will not overlap each other time slot
also DQX Version 4 (with debut on PS4, NX) is factor too.

Nintendo might as well scrap the NX.

If I was to guess a year that wasn't 2017, it wouldn't be 2016.

May 2017, ending the 30th anniversary on a high note. The NX version will come out later I think. They will want to get the 3DS version out as soon as possible before it becomes totally irrelevant because it will be the major platform for the game (the most profitable version, though might be the fan favorite version). And since we assume NX doesn't work similar to 3DS, they can just port the PS4 version later onto NX and maybe even get some double dipper money.

Also it seems to be the only empty slot for SE Japan releases next year. NeiR and FFXII will be their early 2017 releases. KH3 in September or October, maybe FFVIIR in the end of the year if it doesn't slip into 2018. This way every game has some room to breath. And PS4 will get a nice bump with the RE7-DQXI-KH3 lineup.

If trinity isnt real, with NX being a portable with nintendo probably leaving the home market and MS clearly abandoning the Japanese market not only with the scorpio but probably earlier with the very basic One and the S we are entering a phase when the hw chart will be just like this

NX
PS4

That's all

:/

At least Japanese publishers won't have any trouble choosing platforms :(

Right, which is why the idea of one platform taking from the other is funny to me.

Hopefully NX and PS4 can have a beneficial ''alliance'' when it comes to Japanese development. NX as a handheld will give the biggest platform in Japan few years down the line while PS4 has the current userbase to help with the first few years of NX and the western reach.

With stuff like Vita, Wii U, PS4 and 3DS it all feels so fragmented with mindboggling amount of games that could be ported to other platforms but won't compared to games in the western market where everything is universally PS4/XBO/PC.

If NX has an event held in Japan I wouldn't be surprised if we saw DQXI in action.

Considering it sounds like DQX is aiming for NX and PS4 simultaneously I don't see them doing a later release for XI NX either.

In the case of Yokai Watch yes.

No.

First Week:

01./00. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch 3: Sushi / Tempura <RPG> (Level 5) {2016.07.16} (¥4.800) - 632.135 / NEW <63,07%> [Units shipped => 1.002.275]

In other words, after two days of sale, there were 370k units on shelves. What do retailers do next? Order another 300k units, meaning that they ordered almost 100% of units that were left, making a total of 670k on shelves. That's more than the game have sold FW.

Retailers could've ordered a new shipment. Let's say 100k. But order almost the same number of units that were still waiting on shelves was just crazy (and stupid).

Might as well try asking here again:

Media Create top 1000 for 2015 should be out by now right? Is there no interest in banding together to get it & post it again like last year?

NX DQXI will be day and date with the PS4 version unless DQXI sneaks out before launch, and its almost certainly going to be the same game.

The 3DS version is the only one that may or will launch separately as it's actual important release.

DQ VII launched super late in the PS1's cycle and sold a ton. The only normal worry is the PS4/NX version siphoning sales but I'm betting on it being significantly delayed.
