Glad to see Nintendo's been able to ship more Switch in the past few weeks.

Pretty poor debut for DGS2, but that was to be expected...

Seems like good second weeks for DQ and 3rd week for Splatoon 2.

Switch sales were higher again this week than I expected. Hopefully they can continue keeping stock up going into the fall.

Well, maybe Crash can still do well if it has legs? Still, it's an unmitigated success in the rest of the world, it would've been nice to see it move some PS4 units in Japan as well.

That's no big surprise, though. Unlike in the west, where people who did play the games as kids are still actively playing on dedicated platforms, in Japan, those same players have either moved out of games altogether or are playing almost exclusively on smartphones.

It's certainly interesting to think why the love for Crash has been so strong over the times in the west (especially europe) but seems to have dwindled in Japan. The series sold extremely well in PS1 days.

It's rather unfortunate because the Crash games were really popular in Japan back in the day. Crash 2 & 3 sold over a million units each IIRC.

Great hold for DQXI. Better than I expected.

Switch is right in the middle of where I predicted (50-70k), which is good considering it's been a few weeks since Splatoon. The next couple weeks should be interesting with Obon. 3DS and PS4 are looking good too.

Crash and AA performed kinda meh.

Edit: oh and good hold for Splatoon 2 as well. That game is going to sell so steadily for the rest of the year.

Is PS4 baseline going to be increased by couple of thousands in Japan after DQ XI? PS4 can hit 2 million this calendar year in Japan. Is there anything worthwhile releasing in Holidays for Japan?

Great for top 3 and Switch.
PS4 and 3DS slowly going back to regular levels as usual after big releases.

No surprises for crash, and poor Ace Attorney stuck in Japan. Dem LEs profits though.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Between the backlash of the first and coming out late in the 3DS life cycle it looks like DGS2 bombed as expected. Hope Shu Takumi lands on his feet. First Ghost Trick, then the crossover with Layton, and now this. Ghost Trick deserved to do so much better but unfortunately it bombed the hardest.

Why? Crash sales are good in countries with Crash nostalgia like UK, but I don't think crash was ever big in Japan? And it don't seems the game has much appeal outside the nostalgia based on the reviews I read.

Much of the sustained behavior seems to have shifted to 3DS as we've heard from retail report right before and after launch. Which makes sense, it's much cheaper and more prevalent.

Good Switch numbers. I hope 50-60k is the new baseline until holidays.

On the other hand, aren't those ARMS and BoTW numbers kind of... lacking? I thought new launches (like Splatoon 2) would mean better sales for other titles for one or two weeks at least.

It seems like there's no hope in turning around the sales trajectory for Ace Attorney in Japan. Is that audience just not on handhelds anymore in the country?

Why? Crash sales are good in countries with Crash nostalgia like UK, but I don't think crash was ever big in Japan? And it don't seems the game has much appeal outside the nostalgia based on the reviews I read.

The first 3 games sold around a million in Japan.

It launched near some big games though. Nay just have been bad timing for Japan. It may have legs.

I doubt it has especially long legs if this is the start. But yeah, at least the west more than carries it, both the initial sales and legs.

Idk why Japan won't buy Zelda more. I mean Nintendo even changed the structure of the game and it doesn't appeal to them compared to the rest of the world.

Is DQXI the biggest PS4 software in Japan already? The gap between PS4 & 3DS is impressive to me, its smaller than I would imagine

Poor Crash debut, but my boy good everywhere else

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Crash did fine, dont know what you guys expected - DQ/Splatoon are still dominating obv. other games will have a more difficult time to shine.

Very nice to see 3DS/Switch and PS4 performing well.
