Media Create Sales: Week 33, 2017 (Aug 14 - Aug 20)

Weird, back when the Limited Edition console was revealed, I thought Gaijin Hunter said it didn't come with the game.

My mistake.

That was the picture for the reveal:

If he said that, I wonder what he was basing that on.

Rakuten wasn't selling the Double Cross bundle, so:

Last week:

Splatoon bundle #2
Neon #XXXX
Grey #XXXX

This week:

Neon #5 (around 25k)
Splatoon bundle #8 (15k - 20k)
Grey #XXXX
MHXX bundle: ?? (around 50k?)

We should see a big increase on Switch hardware and software numbers.

I forgot that Nights of Azure would be release on August 31st. I am curious to see how the Switch version will sell.

Well then.

It might not mean much with MHXX being first on the list.

It's post-obon so there's supposed to be software and hardware drops for everything else except Switch hardware.

So it only tells us that it hasn't done horribly since it charted above DQXI.

The Snack World is above Splatoon 2 at both Rakuten and Tsutaya. Nice bump, but why? Does it have more life than we expected?

I don't think either of them include bundles. Not sure about Rakuten

Both don't.
But I'm still a bit surprised. I guess the anime is doing its job right. Foresights weren't that great, but if The Snack World can maintain strong legs, it doesn't really matter. It's something to follow anyway :)

The Snack World most i can see would do moderately well around the level of Fantasy Life.

Looks like the next issue of Famitsu has digital sales estimates again. Leaks have this:

Dragon Quest XI (PS4): 113 182
Dragon Quest XI (3DS): 62 939
Splatoon 2: 60 205
Gundam VS: 48 260

(June 29th to July 30th)

With the Famitsu Digital Estimates Splatoon 2 is over 73% attach rate without digital sales from August.

It's Famitsu though.
Didn't they completely mess up eShop rankings a while back.

Yeah digital estimates aren't scientific.

It's not Famitsu though. Media Create and Dengeki gave the same estimate. Unless we have posters in GAF with so much inside info.

Nintendo screwed Splatoon digital more than Famitsu.

Edit: ninja'ed while I was looking for the Sumikko Gurashi link, ha ha.

Even these are "Famitsu estimates", I bet that they are far far more accurate than some digital estimates that we had here from some users. lol

Isn't that close to what Media Create estimated? Or was it Dengeki? At least, a tracker that's not Famitsu. It wasn't a concrete number, iirc.

By the way, Famitsu leaks again... looks like Sumikko Gurashi is getting some party game for Switch, on December 7th.

http://ryokutya2089.com/archives/3067

Edit: oooh, time to light up the Takao signal. Medabots Classic Collection for 3DS. Medabots 1 to 5, two versions + super expensive LE (12 000 Yen?!). No date, though...

That's always a nice game to have. The 3DS games did pretty well and always have long legs. Good for the Switch that the series is coming over.

Who is publishing this? I thought Rocket Company went bankrupt?

So, I've seen for a few weeks now that people expect XX on the Switch to under perform, which is fair enough, but what exactly are your expectations for it?

The game has already sold over 1m on the 3DS and is coming out on a system that barely has a 1.5m install base and is severely supply constrained. 100k-150k is where it will probably land, which I think is respectable. Launching it day and date with the 3DS ver. or at least announcing it earlier may have scored them more sales, but I doubt it would have been that many.

I know a lot of you have a bone to pick with Capcom, but I don't think this was ever going to be that big of a seller.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
MH Switch XX will perform just fine considering what it is and the platform its heading to....some people are just mad that Capcom is playing hard to get with the western release of it.

Still don't understand what kind of credit should be given to "digital estimates" if those are not coming from the publishers, but 113,182 for DQXI PS4 is probably the highest digital numbers seen for 2 days isn't it ? They gave 88,553 digital sales in 2016 for FFXV. DQXI also remained at least 3 weeks (maybe 4 ?) on top of the PSN charts, it was only dethroned recently by Undertale.

What numbers indicate under performance? 100-150k isn't where it will land, first week will be somewhere around that number.

Famitsu data for Minna no Golf 6 are a little behind.

PSV - 180.548
PS3 - 277.768

sinobi gave a recent number for PS3 version - 320.000

Nice Splatoon 2 number. It would be higher if the Switch supply was better.

And that DQXI digital numbers... very good. Especially for the PS4 version. 1.5m should be a lock now. The 3DS numbers are a little disappointing though. I was expecting more (like 80-100k).

Gundam Versus did great too.

More details about the Medabots Classic Collection, and more precisely the LE that costs 12k Yen. Turns out it includes both versions of each game. Still expensive given the regular edition costs 4 800 Yen (granted, minus the CD and artbook, but still).

Oh, and it's releasing on December 21st.

The Sumikko Gurashi news may be the best news for switch in recent months.
And wow, another strong Christmas for 3DS. It will never die :)

I know a lot of you have a bone to pick with Capcom, but I don't think this was ever going to be that big of a seller.

LTD was always going to end up over 100-150k LTD, the brand is simply attractive on this type of formfactor and the Switch itself being bundled with it was going to always inflate numbers due to the sheer demand of the system. So even thought its a port of an expanded re-release of a game that came out over a year ago and has already sold well over a million, it had a decent vertical space to fill and could have sold more than most releases we see month in and month out (probably still will but w/e).

The change is that, now, we're seeing a big uptick right around launch so 100-150k might end up being the FW result. But multiple retailer blogs pointed out that the title was hampered by the timing of its release and World's unveiling. So, instead, consider not what LTD it might scrape by with the odds against it and instead what LTD it might have achieved had it launched sooner/without World's announced before launch.

You could well imagine an LTD more towards 300-400k LTD.

At this point it really isn't a bone to pick, its just a mismanaged mess and Capcom undercutting themselves in multiple ways.

It's less where the LTD lands and more about how they handled the release. It's going to finish somewhere around 250-300k I imagine but the game seemed positioned for higher heights imo before it became obvious they were not positioning the title as a serious release but rather just filler.

In general, it doesn't make a ton of sense to announce an HD port of your most recent game on a new system then announce a few months later the totally redone next evolution of the series on every platform but the one where your remaster is going. It just cuts the legs off of your own product as people are A) unsure what the series will be on Switch and B) naturally more enticed to wait for new graphically superior title versus buying the HD remaster.

Even ignoring no Western release for XX I dont think the way Capcom is handling the series is good. They are introducing a lot of confusion into what should be pretty straight forward. I thought XX would be an easy 500k+ seller before the E3 shit show.

Before the allure of World XX looked like the next best way to play MH but with World they deflated a lot of potential buyers imo. And it's not really a bone to pick with Capcom. Do you think the way they handled the release was the best way to maximize sales and keep the fanbase happy?

For some comparison, the MHG port for Wii that came a couple months before MH3 sold 142.852 FW and 236.020 total, MH3G HD for Wii U did 110.149 FW and 224.986 total, both according to Famitsu. MHXX for Switch normally shouldn't have a hard time matching those.

Aren't Capcom's ~400k?
