I mean it sold (and this is directly from Nintendo, therefore includes digital) 256k in June NPD while having 950k(?) shipments outside Japan, considering the usual US:ROTW ratio for Nintendo that's likely 400k+ unsold at that point (obviously they'll eventually go through it, but still).

That's still near a mil shipped, as well as it maintains it's price and retailers aren't sending it back that's still the majority of sales shipped or otherwise in the rest of the world that Nintendo have gained revenue from (which is what matters to Nintendo. Unless.Japanese shipments increase in a reasonably substantial mount and western shipments don't move at all it's still a western focused frnchise sales wise much more so than splatoon whose Japanese sales were way ahead of the US at this point.

Nintendo blocks credit cards from working in other regions.

The only exception to this as reported by others is that if you live in a region where the eShop isn't available officially or is rather very limited (only has Nintendo first party games), you can use any eShop you want with your credit card regardless because Nintendo is only doing this to certain regions to prevent them from buying games cheaper.

I am aware of the Sonic Mania Russia thread, I won't be surprised when Nintendo ends up blocking foreign bank cards from working there.

Back to MHXX Switch ver, importers are most likely buying the digital version off Amazon JP because it is one of the easiest methods to import digital downloads. The other method if MHXX Switch ver wasn't available on Amazon JP would be to buy eShop cards (they email you the download code, same if you bought MHXX digital from them) to put money into their eShop balance.
