Xbox 360 had the promise of exclusive titles from the creator of Final Fantasy / artist of Dragonball, launched a full year before the other (at the time) next gen consoles and was relatively a lot cheaper than Xbone is now.

The only thing that will save XB1 (read 'save' as 'sell >3k a week if it's lucky') is if the niche VN / shmup audience it cultivated in its earlier years who had all but moved over to PS3 by the end of the gen buys in again, based on zero evidence this time. Or the Western games audience somehow feels there are exclusives they won't be able to pick up on PS4.

You mean Infinite Undiscovery and Blue Dragon? I mean people say they tried, but I believe they just took what they could get that was still unclaimed at the office table. They came to work late that day. I think things like DO4 would have been more effective instead of things like Kingdom Under Fire, Last Remnant, and not getting a FFXIII release in japan (I believe that happened with Tales as well?)

Next week isn't a full week though. But i guess we'll see part of the progress it makes. It releases the 4th right? So 2-3 day tracking period.

Makes pretty much no difference. A vast majority of the units sold will be one launch day. That's why day one reports can be so accurate like they were with PS4 and Youkai Watch 2.

Based on your posts you sound like you know basically nothing about the Japan market at all. It's a standard opening week. Almost all releases are on Thursdays, so it doesn't matter. It's comparable to pretty much any other first week. When people talk about "first week sales" they refer to the tracking period from Thursday to Sunday generally.

Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were Mistwalker's titles. Infinite Undiscovery was an exclusive from Tri-Ace. It also had Ninety Nine Nights produced by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and DOA4 close to launch, as well as Capcom's Dead Rising and Lost Planet.

XB1 has Kamiya's game and.. err.. Swery's game?

Getting the excuses in early? :p

Checking the weather forecast and temperature on the launch day should help you out too.

I Only know about the Iphone and Smartphone scene in japan, you are correct I do not know how the video game tracking works. I work with companies putting games and such on IOS so true. But ok, then I guess we will see next week.'

Unless they give a prior announcement, they being some MS exec.

I've been saying from the start I was focusing on the launch period so I have no idea how that is an excuse.

As for all those games you listed that were not big selling games and were not going to do that well outside a decent niche, you believe that was a strong attempt at japanese support outside DOA 4? Do people even remember N3? (or at least the second one?) I mean I get what you are saying but that's not really strong japanese support.

Didn't the Xbox 360 really even stand a chance for a short time because of the Gears of war franchise? I remember Gears being the only real series topping the charts over there but I can't find the old data for that atm.

I'm beginning to suspect you're doing this intentionally now, but just for clarity, no. None of that is true.

Blue Dragon sold more in its first week (82,286) than Gears did in its lifetime (68,270).

Huh, this while surprising, still at least shows I was not completely wrong when I said the japanese support was not really as big as people made out. Looks like Kinect did actually help extend the life of the console a little bit. You see a new surprise everyday.

What's the price with Kinect in japan for Xbox One? Still too expensive right?

Joysound is an app and DoA5 was officially announced prior to the conference. The rest are new, though. Were they part of the PS4 reel? I didn't notice them before.
Ah OK. Yes, they were part of the PS4 reel, though only shown briefly.

I think there were more in the big montage at the end, at least, I'm pretty sure I saw Astebreed (another PC shoot 'em up) in there.

EDIT: But it seems that one was already announced.
Yeah, Astebreed was announced previously along with Prismatic Solid, Revolver360 Re:Actor and TorqueL.

I just realized something. In all the excitement for Persona 5, it seems that people have largely forgotten that Persona 4 Dancing All Night wasn't anywhere in the conference. It would have fit right in when they were showing all those otaku stuff for Vita too. The release date is supposed to be Fall this year. Could this indicate that it has been delayed as well?

Soul Sacrifice 2 was not re-announced/shown either even though the announced it last year together with SS Delta.

Microsoft moneyhatted a number of "big" RPGs early on in 360's life to try to get it traction in Japan, and it didn't provide a sustained boost. Therefore, they're not bothering as much with XB1. Don't know how big "people" made out Japanese support to be for 360, but early on, there was quite a bit.

Kinect Adventures was bundled with the console, and its sales are a direct result of the bundling. Don't confuse that with actual demand. :p

Only big franchises that really was there was Dead or Alive 4 and maybe two other later exceptions. Everything else was low, or was also on PS3 and even then, not that much on PS3, but much more in comparison for the 360.

Kinect Adventures showed that Kinect itself outsold a lot of 360 games if anything, which is why I was wondering how much Japan would pay for Kinect bundled Xbox Ones in comparison to say, the U.S.A. If it's to expensive they hirt a chance of that actually being an appealing factor.

The PS3 ports were announced later and usually after the 360 game was released. When the games came out on 360, they were big deals. Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity. They're not doing as much this time (so far), so it's reasonable to expect less results, too.

Kinect and Kinect Adventures was bundled with every single system. :p

Edit:
No, I'm getting that mixed up. Kinect and Kinect Adventures were bundled but not with every system. To give some perspective on its sales, it sold 50K in its first 4 weeks, ~115K after a year (very slow burner), and got to its final 148K total after about 2 years. Wasn't really an immediate system driver, at least.

1. No they were not, on the 360 anyway.

2. Why did you repeat what I said? I meant that as a question, how much is the kinectfullXbox one in Japan?

The games were a big deal on the 360 in Japan for the weeks they released. You're confusing the sales total with how big a deal they are. Mario Kart 8 is a big deal, even though it'll come no where near Mario Kart Wii.

See the edit. You're looking at the result of extremely slow burn of sales due to bundling over 2 years and thinking it will have more than a minor impact on the XB1's sales with Kinect.

Also, Japan is historically the least price-sensitive region of the big three (U.S., EU, Japan).

They were not a big deal on the 360 because most were coming too PS3 or in some cases were already n the PS3, or in some cases, did not have 360 versions in japan.

They needed to pick bigger games to move units for exclusives. I mean they did a similar thing with the original Xbox.

But we'll see. They seem to be at least advertising it there currently. That's something.

It's not so much that those games weren't big, so much as they weren't big enough by themselves to move 360s. Here's a franchise comparison for the top two games off that list I posted:

Because there's like 5000 different Tales releases I removed the spinoffs, ports and budget reprints. It is important to note that Vesperia's late PS3 port sold 408,171. People wanted that game, just not on 360.

People actually have to BUY the 2000 first lol.

I get the joke, but people are. Sony in the west isnt sending out stock, but it seems to sell through whats out there. And in the East, well it seems to be doing a lot better according to the Media Create threads and the quarterly report.

That being said, would love a Vita 3000. Doubt they would jump to a MicroSD format but if they got it cheaper AND also drop the price of the memory cards, it might do better. I mean, the new 3DS is closer to Vita specs, so maybe if Sony tried, they can get ports. But Sony would need to try...

I was here for 360 exclusives in Japan and they were considered very big deals at the time. Especially in those early years when PS3 was sort of struggling.

Blue Dragon, Ninety Nine Nights, Tales of Eternia, Final Fantasy XIII, were all supposed to put the system on equal footing in Japan. They didn't sustain the support and it more or less fell on deaf ears.

Joysound is an app and DoA5 was officially announced prior to the conference. The rest are new, though. Were they part of the PS4 reel? I didn't notice them before.
I think I remember seeing Croixleur in one of the sizzle reels so they were all probably in there somewhere.

From that list Ace combat, blue dragon, last remnant and DOA4 were all exclusive to 360. Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia (games from big franchises) were timed exclusive with absolutely no indication they were coming to ps3 when they released.

Could you post the number for the Eternia PSP port, out of interest?

Um, Tales of Vesperia was an exclusive to 360 initially in Japan. In the west it was always exclusive to the 360. Eventually in Japan they released a PS3 version. Hard to say they didn't try?

360 exclusive games targeted at Japan:
Ridge Racer 6 - 2005-12-10 - 29,891 / 73,501
Dead or Alive 4 - 2005-12-29 - 62,603 / 108,618

Eternal Sonata (timed for a year) - 2007-06-14 - 43,592 / 70,435

Microsoft really really tried from launch to close to the beginning of 2009 with the 360 in Japan and were rewarded with some fairly terrible sales. Now that Microsoft seemingly is releasing 0 exclusive Japanese titles, how do you think they're going to sell in this depressed console market?

I don't think Japan really cares at this point. MS benefited from PS3's late start last generation but that situation did not repeat itself this time. I see them struggling quite a bit.

Agreed. In all honesty, I think Sony doesn't care too much either.

Um, Tales of Vesperia was an exclusive to 360 initially in Japan. In the west it was always exclusive to the 360. Eventually in Japan they released a PS3 version. Hard to say they didn't try?

360 exclusive games targeted at Japan:
Blue Dragon - 2006-12-07
Eternal Sonata (timed for a year) - 2007-06-14
Ace Combat 6 - 2007-11-01
Lost Odyssey - 2007-12-06
Tales of Vesperia (timed exclusive for a year) - 2008-08-07
Infinite Undiscovery - 2008-09-11
The Last Remnant - 2008-11-20
Star Ocean 4 (timed for a year) - 2009-02-19

There were also Enchanted Arms, Chromehounds, Dead or Alive 4, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2, Ridge Racer 2, Rumble Roses XX, Ninety Nine Nights, Project Sylpheed, Lost Planet, Bullet Witch, Idol Master, Beautiful Katamary, Senko no Ronde... 360 got a lot of support in terms of exclusive games appealing to a Japanese audience by third party companies, and some of them were also big projects.

Oh wow, that's a lot more than I thought. Personally I think the Japanese are way too loyal to Japanese brands, because it seems to me these titles would have sold a bunch more had the 360 been made by a Japanese company.

I don't think so... As 70% of the people there own an iPhone.

ALet, why discuss about the xbox one jap in this forum. Everybody knows that it will bomb hard. It will sell the first 2-3 weeks and after 2 or 3 thousands per week

Eh, true, but apart from Sony's Xperia (which I hear does much better in Japan), what Japanese choice do they have? Maybe correct that to "The Japanese were too loyal to Sony".

No how can you say they tried when they grabbed franchises and games that had no console moving power even when on the PS3 with few exceptions? Some games were already on ps3, again, some, some of you think I said all.

Some of the franchises that were on 360 (tales for example) were already niche games. I dont think the 360 was trying in Japan, more likely needing up their library in the west. Most of the Japan exclusive exclusive games barely pushed a bed sheet over a agreed much less big deals.

Im not saying those games are not important just saying those games had no moving power even if the roles were reversed. With a few exceptions of course.

Which games do you think Microsoft should get as Xbox exclusives in Japan? Which do you think they are already working on? Interested to know.

I guess the question becomes what can they get, outside of ultra niche visual novels.

Not sure what your asking here. Did you believe the Tales game for example was a great choice for making exclusive to move 360's in japan? You second question im not even sure where you got that from. Never said Xone was doing better with that.
