I wonder the same. There're 100k not tracked, will they add it to the totals? Or first week (like they did with DQH bundles)

It's first time this happens with hw.

What would make sense is when Famitsu gives first week numbers at its early report they'll also give the number of Pokemon bundles.

The second scenario is they give only the combined number of total 2DS sales and the third and worst they don't give Pokemon number at all.

It's all about the timing of the announcement and release.

If at Nintendo really wanted to counter attack a potential PS4 slim release at the same date they would try something more drastical, not 2DS.

Well, wouldn't the prevailing expectation be for them to be at Sony's keynote with anything important rather than their own? (This is circa TGS, that is. Obviously DR3 would be with MS circa... E3?)

I suspect any product they announce at an event like that would be further out since presumably otherwise they'd want to cover it in a panel.

I really think the only big unannounced thing left from Capcom at this point is for the NX reveal. RE7 and DR4 news are already out, Deep Down is dead, some small stuff is for smaller scale like the thing for 3DS announced today, etc.
I doubt there's anything to expect from them at this TGS.

edit: talking for 2016 only. They'll have other things to announce in 2017 obviously.

Gotta say, I'm impressed with the push the 3DS is getting at this point in its life. Plenty of stuff coming and even some IP mix-up to attempt to draw in a few different users. Should keep the console ticking over well.

I am intrigued to see whether any of this 2017 stuff is just 3DS.

And yeah, WiiU definitely got Vita'd huh.

they just have 3DS until March, so it's obvious they have to push it during winter holidays, then in January you announce NX to the world and all the people who bought n3DS during December will be very happy

All those WiiU games moved to 3DS just to let the consumer used to the unique platform they're gonna release

It will be enough to revitalize the market in Japan ? The more kids with mobile phone I see the less I think the market will be saved.
The only thing that will be probably successfull is the portable recharge kit that already had a spike during Pokemon Go madness.

We're talking about a series where the reaction to the last game was toxic and Nintendo didn't seem to cared, and then the reaction to this game's unveil was toxic and Nintendo didn't care, so this feels like the obvious conclusion to me.

When your reaction is seymourskinnernoit'sthechildrenwhoarewrong.gif to any criticism, and then you don't try to engage with your audience to see how you can change the product to be more appealing to them, this is what you get.
This is a fantastically concise and accurate summary of what went wrong.

This is a fantastically concise and accurate summary of what went wrong.

Makes you wonder where the source of this is because its seemingly (at current) a phenomenon that occurs seemingly at random with certain franchises. (Most recently, AC:Amiibo, Chibi-Robo: Zip-Lash, and now MP:FF.)

And then I realized Tanabe is on two of those three projects... and I have to start wondering if that old rumor about his falling out with Retro over the fact the he was far too draconian with his views on how a thing should be... isn't rather oddly fitting to this very same problem here.

It's also baffling when you compare it to things like El Capitan, a project made entirely based on fan-reaction/feedback, or just about anything and everything done with Splatoon, as more recent examples (or heck, even Mario Party of all things seems to have learned something from the response to MP10. Fucking Mario Party.). Obviously "Nintendo" isn't one person but such drastic difference are very peculiar and lead me to think someone in control somewhere along the food chain is putting to work "their vision" over everything else.

When EPD makes a spin-off or creative game, it's good because EPD has a bunch of talented developers that know how to make a fun game. When someone else does? Well it feels like Nintendo has let quality control go down for outsourced or filler titles. At this point I think it's just whether the individual directors have a good vision for their game or not.

Hoping only NX alone to carry the whole JP is a bit stretch i think?

Persona 5 really entered in beast mode two weeks before release. Stores are really pushing the reservations as we reach the release date.

FFXV is not having much space on shelves, at least on little shops, where Yakuza and FIFA are really stronger. There's also a recomandation stand for this fall, with games that sold really well during this summer.

Last weekend, Bic Camera had a Pikachu Pool for its visitors, lol.

Feels like we haven't had gigantic crowds lining up for a game release in forever. Think Persona 5 would do it?

No. Wait for Pokemon.

And then Spla2n. Or Animal Crossing.

Here lies Horuhe, lost in the line of battle for sales data! You shall be missed!

Also this confirms Horuhe has *an* arm. Potentially, Horuhe is just *an* arm!

Haha, only kids were allowed to enter there. It was kind of funny because there was a giant Pikachu looking at those kids in a weird way...

There was one shop that immediately changed their FFXV space to Persona 5 space after the news of the delay. Could be the case with some others:

Well, don't know exactly. I'm quite sure, though, that the FFXV delay benefited Persona 5. If stores made those changes just after the announcement, don't know. I remember that stores, what really did, was changing the date as soon as possible. There was a store that even had it with the previous date for a week, lol.

If it make you feel better there was actually an RPG series by Hudson starring the peach boy back in the day called Momotaro Densetsu.

This is actually what I thought it was all this time.
I looked it up once years back, and didn't question it, since Konami bought Hudson.

Nothing happened to EOV. It's performing normally.

Third week sales EOIV vs EOV:

20./07. [3DS] Etrian Odyssey IV: Denshou no Kyojin <RPG> (Atlus) {2012.07.05} (¥6.279) - 7.217 / 117.362 (-51%)

16./06. [3DS] Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth # <RPG> (Atlus) {2016.08.04} (¥6.480) - 4.636 / 109.676 (-63%)

In both cases, after the third week they fell off the weekly chart with numbers, so we have no reliable numbers for the overall month.

Is it really all that far off from IV?

By absolute numbers, no, but it is a non-negligible percentage due to it being a low volume game.

Famitsu Week 3:

18./05. [3DS] Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth # <RPG> (Atlus) {2016.08.04} (¥6.480) - 4.148 / 104.775 <80-100%> (-70%)

~11%-ish?

EOIV did about 148k LTD. I expect that EOV will do less than that at retail, but we're also probably at a point where the digital market even in Japan is mature enough such that for a low volume (<200k) title, it could end up selling very similar numbers in the end.

Considering this is a sequel released 4 years after, on the same platform, looking largely the same, and this being the 5th entry of the series, and there being spinoffs and remakes which filled the 4 year gap, I think it's actually holding surprisingly well!

Are there any predictions on how the 2DS will do? It's clearly the cheapest version of 3DS now and could appeal to a wider market due to the price. (Better for smaller kids maybe?)

2DS was released as a limited edition with Pokemon in February, and it shipped 100k units in Japan despite being sold for a couple of weeks.
Since it isn't anything new, the impact will be limited. I think it can still appeal to young kids, specially during christmas season, but I wouldn't expect a great launch. Probably it will have a modest start.

Considering how much 3DS had sold in Japan, i really don't see how 2DS will do well. But i do think, those who wanted to retire their old 3DS tx to Smash killing their circle pad can choose to buy 2DS now lol.

The 2DS is a product no one really wants. How cheap is it is less relevant. There is no sign that a tablet version of the 3DS which is even harder to carry around is something people have a desire for.

Ehh i disagree lol. I feel 2DS if it is cheap enough will allow those who wanted to retire their old broken 3DS to get a new 2DS on cheap.

It will appeal to importers since it will be the cheapest way to play japanese games

2DS comes so late at 3DS life with only attractive thing its price that won't have bigger impact than GB Light or GB Micro.

If it manages to have a LTD close to 500k Nintendo should be more than happy.

The October price drop from the leak was referring to west and Nintendo doesn't always follow the same strategy for Japan.

Even if it's too early for an announcement of a price drop 2 months later, 2DS launch makes it less possible.
