Not to distract too much from Monster Hunter, but I feel the need to note that Lineage II Revolution has had just as explosive a debut in Japan as its had elsewhere, starting at number 5 and going up steadily for over a week now, sitting solidly at #2. I feel this is noteworthy as it's a Korean game by a Korean publisher, and it's a full on MMO on mobile.

Rhythm games are also continuing their mobile strength with Prince of Tennis' Uta no Prince-sama rhythm game having a strong debut. This also plays like a regular rhythm game plus character scenes.

Things continue to centralize around pretty traditional games on mobile.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Right now it's supply constrained and the PS4 did have a false start too, so we don't know (for sure) how Switch will compare to PS4. I'm still positive for Switch tho.
.

What was PS4's false start?

Wasn't sure it was retail Day 1, looks like it is (at least, Amazon JP is listing it for that day).

That game is going to be weird since it's digital-exclusive on Switch, with the physical release coming out later. It'll be hard to get a sense of how it's doing initially.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Even without MHW ....XX wouldnt have set the world on fire on Switch - the game has been out for half a year on 3DS. This is essentially a GotY version of MHX - so the people picking it up now might have bought more or less the same game twice already.

They milked all there is to milk from the hardcore MH fanbase already. The first MHX/Gen was already marketed as a final conclusion to this generation....people were surprised when they announced MHXX on 3DS again and the lackluster sales compared to past MH 3DS titles confirmed it.

MHXX HD is free money for Capcom since it got the team familiar with the Switch hardware by porting a old game and will help them to figure out what they can do next on this hardware.

Summer is a dead time in gacha games (its why they release all these seasonal/swimsuit stuff).

I'd wait till fall hits.

Damn that's a huge attachment rate, where do you get the numbers from - it's going to be an interesting comparison to track.

From gamedatalibrary that has data that goes way back (awesome site). There isn't much of an race though. For as insane attach rate as 85% you usually need hardware that doesn't sell that well and game that sells really well. Splatoon 2 is similarly game that does really well but Switch sells too much hardware to have as insane attach ratio as Melee had with GC.

Well, these things are still largely gacha games, they just play more like traditional games in gameplay.

Even the most relevant core consoles games are gacha games these days!

Looking at upcoming releases, Switch has at least one game every week until October (but nothing on very first week of October). Nothing too exciting, though. Expecting mediocre shipments until Pokkén Tournament DX.

August 31st

[Switch] Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack
[Switch] Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon

September 7th

[Switch] Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2

September 14th

[Switch] Champion Jockey Special
[Switch] Winning Post 8 2017

September 21st

[Switch] Dragon Quest X

September 22nd

[Switch] Pokkén Tournament DX

September 28th

[Switch / New 3DS ] Fire Emblem Warriors
[Switch / New 3DS ] Fire Emblem Warriors Premium Box
[Switch / New 3DS ] Fire Emblem Warriors Treasure Box

September 29th

[Switch] FIFA 18

Damn You would think that they would space these out a tiny bit (especially if they don't have anything 1st week of Oct like you say)

September 21st

[Switch] Dragon Quest X

September 22nd

[Switch] Pokkén Tournament DX

September 28th

[Switch / New 3DS ] Fire Emblem Warriors

September 29th

[Switch] FIFA 18[/QUOTE]

Dragon Quest X (not a huge selling one but still), Pokken, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Fifa within 8 days of each other?

At least Switch had a good week. I never had high expectations for XX, although the last thread made me think my expectations were perhaps too low. Not that this result confirms they weren't yet :p.

It's pretty wild how much better Neptunia as a franchise is doing in the West.

IDK. I think there is a certain stereotypical "Japanese-ness" which has more currency in the west than it has in Japan.

What western audiences want in Japanese games is not the same as what Japanese audiences want; a game like Neptunia is targeted at hardcore/niche otaku audiences.

I usually think about this in regards to how disappointingly DQ does here :p. (i.e. a game that appeals to mainstream audiences in Japan but doesn't appeal to more mainstream audiences in the west than JRPG targeting niche audiences).

People seem to forget MHXX is a port of a game that's like 5 months old, which means it isn't even double dipping material. Not many people are willing to buy the exact same game twice in such a short time.

I expected sales to be a bit better but this isn't shocking.

I don't know SSB had a very strong launch but after the holidays it eventually exited the charts. Melee had sold 1069K by it's 21st week at that point NGC was at 1299K, which is 82% attach rate when it exited the charts.
Splatoon 2 has it's first holiday in a few months - like I've said many times I do expect it to have an abnormally high attach rate close to those Melee numbers for the year. It's the main system seller in Japan and no game releasing this year will change this.

So Monster Hunter World is going to flop, but Monster Hunter XX flopped because Capcom announced Monster Hunter World and all the Monster Hunter fans are going to buy World instead.

...

Cherry-picking hyperbolic statements from multiple members and bundling them into a single line of thought then alleging it to be a popular sentiment.

I mean maybe at some point it can have comparable attach rate for a while to melee when you align the launches (personally I don't believe it will). Its final attach rate won't be even close though. Melee had final attach rate or 33%. If Switch sells like 3DS (about 25 million ltd) Splatoon 2 needs to sell over 8.2 million units to have same kind of attach rate.

notice how hiska-kun is dropping

comparing the Switch to a bunch of mediocre/poorer performing platforms doesn't really put the platforms sales into context.

His point was that PS4 didn't have a false start, but that it was a sales disaster for a good chunk of its life.

It really does, if you're a fan of over simplified, exaggerated, pithy statements.

No it doesn't; it's just convenient for you to think that.

All it says is you don't know what you're talking about.

Seems like a touched a nerve there. I never said that you were one of them he is refering too. I just stated my opinion on the matter. Am i allowed or not? I don't think i offended someone. Give me some time and i can post some enough posts to prove that what he claims is true.

Not a particularly surprising result for MH considering the original game was not well received, and sold less than expected.

Tbh when you generalize like this:

using "every" does not give off the impression you are talking about a few posters. Best to have examples ahead of time.

Expected a bit more from MHXX (like 100k) but this isn't surprising. 69k for Switch is pretty good and it's great to see Splatoon hit 1m on Media Create!

I really wonder what stock will be like in September. Maybe there will be boosts for Pokken and FEW. Also interested in seeing if MHXX has any legs.

Bullshit hot takes aside (and those that agree with them)

There are an absolute fuck-ton of reasons why this XX is performing worse than (MHG[wii]/MHF3HD/MH3G[wiu]), and Capcoms MHW focus (allong with its highly likely inability to sell in the realm of its Handheld predecessors ) is merely one bullet point in a larger field of this titles mismanagement.
