[PS3] Tales of Vesperia first day -> first week: 147k -> 228k

If ToX followed the same pattern, it would sell 424k first week.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

It will be interesting. IIRC other first day sales for Tales platforms have been an even higher amount of total first week sales, so I would not be shocked if that number ends up lower.

Pretty good sales for ToX. Should become the second best selling HD JRPG, at least until XIII-2 hits.

What's 2nd right now? Is it Vesperia?

I wonder if it can outsell Vesperia PS3 & 360 combined?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

And maybe Ninokuni.... but who knows.

Yeah, Tales of Vesperia actually has one of the best ratios. I don't have first day info stored, but searching with Google, they are in the range of 1.2~1.4 for other games I found.

That would put ToX first week in the 330k~380k range.

Sold 274K first day (f-ism)

What about other PS3 first day to first week sales ratio? (even non-tales games)
i think game should do 1.5x first day sales to first week.

so it should hit 400k...
as someone else mentioned comg ranking also was quite high for it..
btw can some body give the amazon japan reviews of the game? is it having good reviews or poor ones? i have seen a correlation between reviews to leg... so it can help determine if its going to go above 400k or below 400k

Interesting to see the 3DS list like this.

Disappointing to see Capcom's sound game disappear so quickly, though. Was it not hyped or advertised that well? I know it suffered by being released in the week following the price-cut announcement, but I thought perhaps it might have held up the next couple of weeks as more hardware sales came in post-pricedrop. Seemingly not, though :(

What will be very interesting is when we eventually get Famitsu/Media Create updates on 3DS LTDs to see how much the hardware boost over recent weeks has helped off-chart growth for certain games.

And after a generation wondering were was the JRPG public... it just happens they were, or wanted to be, in the most obvious place.

If JRPG developers had focused in PS3 instead of doing experiments and taking MS checks, that public would have felt safe going for that platform as the natural successor of PS2 and that specific market would have developed way faster.

Yea, unproven theory, I have no proof, we would never know, yadda, yadda. That's what I think.

Ah yes, I do actually recall seeing that earlier. It definitely gives a good idea of how certain lower games have been trucking along surprisingly well since release, such as Puzzle Bobble.

However, a clearer picture won't be seen until there are LTD updates a little further down the line. Some of the games at the bottom of the list simply appear to be showing only their first week sales.

How up-to-date is that list, by the way?

Well, this is true for Tales of, which appears to have a strong fanbase on Sony consoles, but not necessarily for other series / IPs; Star Ocean sold less on PS3 than 360, for instance, and I'm highly doubtful about an hypothetic success of games like Inazuma Eleven, Etrian Odyssey and God Eater on PS3. Let's see how it will perform Ni no Kuni.

SO4 360 launched close to Demon's Souls, which people weren't quite as enthusiastic about.

It turns out Japanese gamers were amazed by the latter and were plain laughing at the former. Word of mouth killed whatever hope it could have had with PS3, total lack of extra content was the finishing blow.

Take a look at WKC , game really wasn't that good and it managed 300k+ back in 2008, can you imagine if a blue dragon or lost Odyssey was released on ps3 around that same time?

Atleria, resonance of fate , even bloody idea factory games like neptune are selling better then similar games sold on ps2. The ps3 is really turning out to be a nice place for rpgs.

Tales of Vesparia, Star Ocean 4, and Mistwalker games would have caused the PS3 to double or more in sales?

We talk about very little numbers (Star Ocean did 160k, Demons' debuted with less than 40k and sold 160k as of the end of that year), I hardly think the latter has affected the former in any way.

I think the PSP and the DS was where the 'PS2' RPG market went to, imo.

Sure they did, what other alternative they had? But if a "critical mass" of good JRPGs had build on PS3 from the beginning, that segment would have developed way faster.

Of course, Sony being almost completely incompetent with the PS3 launch didn't help.

Well the only real way Sony was going to make $599 not a massive screwup is if they had one of the greatest launch lineups(and 1st year lineup) of all time by a significant margin. At the PS3's pricepoint, the majority of people in the world were not ready to spend that kind of money.

It's just as easy to say Wii could've had that audience as well had the third party support not been crappy and Nintendo been on the ball with things.

I don't discard the possibility of Wii having take that role. But it would have required serious commitment from Nintendo, getting Final Fantasy XIII, courting developers to put their main efforts there, and so.

But without a mainline Final Fantasy it's pretty damn impossible to do that. It´s the kind of game that gather that community around a system.

At the end there has been a fragmented market where following all JRPs required the three systems. It´s not wonder many of those players decided to wait, go to handhelds and so.

Don't really post in sales thread because there are exceptional analytical minds in these threads for years now that i have no place in them. However, I think we can come to a group consensus that Japan game companies' JRPGS should have been more focused towards the PS3 (oversimplification for arguments sake) instead of the haphazard way in which they handled their franchises.

It was on the list of supposedly leaked 3DS conference announcements that included Etrian Odyssey, Ace Attorney 5, and a Good-Feel Yoshi side-scroller, yes.

I saw that list, but don't remember Gods Eater. Be great if so.

Edit: Saw some articles mentioning it as so along with the other stuff. Cool. :D

PS3 is not a bad place for JRPG some have done rather well on the systems .
If gust can bring out a game every year and get 75k in sales any body should be able to do it also or better .

Very interesting to follow and predict 3DS weekly number. I am still on the fence regarding 3DS. To buy or not to buy (even at the $170 price point), that is the question.

I'll go pull out the sales charts if you want, but excluding the monster hunter clones(which are a product of their environment, they wouldn't have sold on ps2 either) most similar rpgs have sold on-par or far better on ps3 compared to psp.

The final fantasy's on psp were better received yet only half the sales of FFXIII. None of the psp tales of even came close, Valkyrie was about 90k~ less then ps3 version, beyond that you get into 100k~ territory on the psp which looking at gust titles, rings of fate, even neir seems to be about the good point for medium ps3 titles.

White knight chronicles did about 10 times better on ps3 then psp, Catherine has sold better then any atlus game on psp etc etc.

I'm sure they hoped for more, but all things considered for a PS2->PS3 situation keeping over 80% of sales compared to FF X seems pretty good. Other top returning series like Gran Turismo, Musou, Winning Eleven, and Hot Shots weren't nearly as fortunate.
