Media Create Sales: Week 35, 2013 (Aug 26 - Sep 01)

First day sellthrough:

[PS3] Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate - 60%
[PS3] [360] Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist - 50%
[PSV] Killzone: Mercenary - 30%
[PS3] Puppeteer - 10%
[WIU] Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist - 3-5%
So a game with jiggling is selling more than a genuine and good new platformer. What's new Japan?

That is why we can't have nice things :[

Lower than the framerate, ouch

I really wonder how well Rayman Legends will do for Nintendo/Ubisoft in Japan next month considering it's an exclusive there. I have a feeling that right now its the only thing Ubisoft will see any positive returns on as far as Wii U is concerned.

I wonder if Puppeteer would have sold better if it was on the Vita.
With these bomba sales, i do eventually see it coming to VITA as a cheap port after 1 year or so.

Yeh, a bomba game on a bomba platform doesn't bode well but knowing Sony, they might just make ports of a lot of last year PS3 games for VITA next year.

I don't think that 3rd party to first party ratio should be compared like that.

You cannot sell what doesn't exist so no wonder 3rd party sales took a dive.

Instead we should be anylising every release separately to see if it matched possible expectations.

Not like it changes much in case of Wii U as literary everything bombed.

The point of that exercise was to measure relative retail presence, and at the moment, the Wii U's retail presence has been completely dominated by major 1st-party exclusives.

Shipments and sell-through are closely related. When there is consumer demand for a product, retailers indicate to the publisher they want more copies, and the publisher responds accordingly. Third party sales are so low because consumers aren't demanding them, not because they don't exist.

It's not a big deal if major first-party games light up the chart for a few weeks. The issue is when first-party sales create such a homogeneous environment that its retail exposure gets known only to consumers as Nintendo first-party.

Just take a look at Splinter Cell Blacklist sell-through on PS3 / 360 (50%) compared to Splinter Cell Blacklist sell-through on Wii U (3-5%). This is EXACTLY the kind of scenario that leads to third parties abandoning the console.

[WIU] Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist - 3-5%

That is such an extreme contrast, it's scary.

Well, at least there's Rayman...right?

Media Create is worried for second week sales. Sellthrough is high but preorders were 302k and the game showed little growth comparing to that number.

It seemed like Puppeteer was gonna bomb from the start and am expecting the same in the west. It's a shame since it seemed good and really interesting.

How was Sony's marketing for the game.

Another 3rd-party bomba for the Wii U.

Looks like bad reviews and bad word of mouth will get to this game.

Dunno if it's already been mentioned yet but it seems retailers are selling JoJo for around half of its RRP. I picked up a copy at Geo today for 4000 yen which for a new PS3 title is pretty damn cheap.

From Sinobi, these are the initial sales goals from Sony (not necessarily the first shipment):

[PS3] Puppeteer: 70k
[PSV] Killzone: Mercenary: 30k

He also says Gravity Rush has done 150k (including the "best" release).

Well, at least there's Rayman...right?

"This Week's Rabbids Land" is the demeaning description the blog adopted for the games with sell-through bombas. Let's see if Rayman can stop its predestined future.

The marketing was there. Tv commercials, ads. They even had physical demo discs at video stores.

Sounds like KZ sold as much as Puppeteer to me.

What do initial sales goals mean? First week sale? First month?

Puppeteer looks great. It deserves a lot more success. Hope it has good word of mouth and good legs. Gamers should be more receptive to new IPs, you know, since they complain so much about the same games coming out every year.

Poor Puppeteer.

Buying it day 1 but really anybody could have seen the bomba coming from the day the game was announced.

I wonder if it outsells W101 anyway.

Actually one of the best fighting games and easily TN best game. Try the f2p version for yourself.

Ps you can turn jiggling off.

It should have been a Vita title from the start.

If it doesn't outsells TW101 with PS3's user base I would be very very surprised.
