Getting dev-kits earlier doesnt necessarily mean that the company has resources free to actually develop and optimize the games. Could they have had MHXX out at the Switch launch ? Likely...but it probably would have been a worse version than the one that launched this month...and the total sales wouldnt have been much higher....if higher at all.

The only misstep in regards to MHXX from Capcom is the missing western release....they know that the game would sell to some Switch owners but they are sacrificing it to maximize MHW sales potential.

Japanese sales and continued strength of the brand in Japan is the only thing that should matter. Capcom did not learn its lesson attempting to entice the West last time. It will end with the same result: running back to Japan.

Nights of Azure 2 really didn't do so well. I still hold that it'll do better overseas. I guess Japanese otaku aren't really all that interested after the first game. On top of that, wasn't the game supposed to come out last year or something like that and kept getting pushed back?

I expect it to outsell the PS4 version.

Obviously. I mean Revelations 2 was a PS3/PS4 release and sold quite well and Revelations 1 did very well on PS3. Any Playstation fan that wanted to play these games already done it, that's why the low numbers of this re release. Switch should easily outsell it.

Revelations was on both the past Nintendo systems(and sold really well on 3DS)....

Yeah but no Revelations 2, so higher numbers should be expected. Also, Revelations 1 will be in HD this time. I don't think many Nintendo fans bought the WiiU version...

Yes, I forgot about Monster Hunter. I posted that solely on the basis of Nights of Azure 2's sales of 4,400 units.

Including MHXX actually strengthens my point - it's taken a second week to break 100k. If you look at the eShop charts for Japan you'll see a similar pattern.

I wouldn't be surprised if SteamWorld Dig 2 on Switch underperforms relative to the 3DS version which sold the most in Japan.

That's a bold assumption to make based on absolutely nothing

Compare the Switch to launch 3DS lol which is compared to launch DS

Not that i disagree but i dont think MHXX at the Switch launch would have resulted in the next/new MH for Switch arriving anytime sooner than what is planned right now.

The 3DS release for Japan - its not like japanese players didnt have a MH release to spend money on this year. Switch impacts on the overall performance of most japanese publishers is very small this year...if i was a 3rdParty i would also wait a couple of months for the Nintendo games to get the installed base to +4-5m before i start releasing bigger games tbh.

I've always thought that it's better to get in early to help get your audience prepared for the future. If they come in late, then there's that possibility that the audience won't even consider that platform when games are released for it. Especially if I make relatively niche games.

As far as the dungeon crawlers like EO, the developer interviews seem to point to them really having no clue how to translate away from a two screen/map layout.

Given Altus' late support of systems, the game announcements of the trio felt played to a western audience from the get go...

Just on EO as a series... even as a collector I can't justifying owning every game. They've milked it to death and I really think this is it's swan song. The game may return in name but won't be similar.

And this reasoning is why they will continue to fail over and over again.

It seems the majority of the game industry honestly believes that they somehow control the consumer end of the spectrum and can manipulate demand without listening to the voices of their customers. Capcom seemingly believes that the consumers of their products should jump through fucking hoops to be able to play their games. For whatever reason these Companies don't actually listen to their customers that are already interested in purchasing the Company's content and are always willing to toss seemingly dedicated customers completely aside for a gamble at greener pastures.

Trying to force consoles on Japan is a fools errand at this point, instead of actually following the existing consumer market for their Monster Hunter series they once again are trying to manipulate it into something it's not naturally.

So looking at those Azure 2 breakdowns, they only shipped around 10k on switch anyway and expected/knew it'd be the lowest selling (?)

She is wondering if they are keeping secret the titles for the TGS conference. If this is not the case, then Nintendo will be the only relevant system this holidays.

I'm like 90% sure this game was in dev for more than 4 months.

Also goddamn Famitsu, what's with the 20k discrepancy.

Dynasty warriors 9 in not coming in November after this conference. It might miss December as well (or it's asuprise for TGS).
That's the only relevant title not dated yet I can think at the moment.

What would Capcom be gaining if I recommended people to buy a PS4 with some of my favourite games on it like Undertale, Bloodborne, Doom and The Witcher 3?

Considering how terrible the game looked the last time we saw it, I don't think there's any chances this thing is releasing this year. Or even this fiscal year.

I can only think of Tales of, as we were discussing before, showing up at the keynote since the Switch release of a Tales of is expected before EoFY. Unless that's Switch exclusive in some weird fashion and we don't see it until a Direct or something.

But even with that, I can't think of what else they'll have at their TGS or think of things that they could pull out. Seems like Tales of, MHW, DW9, and...?

Many folks on this board have admitted to not wanting to playing EO if it heads to Switch or PS4 because they love the map-making feature so much.

It might be one of the series that retire on the 3DS.

Oh im talking about bigger releases...like DQXI or whatever Level 5 will bring - games that will sell if the install base is there...not titles where a extra 20-30k of the Switch sku is considered a success.

Call of Duty and Battlefront for November.

Yakuza and Resident Evil for December.

That's the big PS4 games left for the rest of the year, I guess they could rerelease Final Fantasy XV by now.

Maybe they'll sell a Monster Hunter World bundle similar to how they sold the Dragon Quest Heroes bundle.

I'm utterly confused on why third party publishers continue to think that they are King makers. Especially, what happen after generation 7.

Switch wouldn't have competition in Japan at holidays either way, besides it was known from long time ago that PS4 and 3DS would have weak year end releases.

Pokemon, YW Busters and whatever Kirby game they are dropping....doesnt sound that weak to me....everything else on the system will likely tank though lol.

Interested to see what Sony will have for the Holidays.

Very weak comparing to last year.

I have always found it little strange how Sony and Japanese third parties usually target Q1 instead of holiday season with PS4 titles. Pretty much every Q1 since PS4 launched has been fairly packed with decent sized titles. End of the year on the other hand has been pretty barren outside of the usual western holiday titles.

Dying genres (sim racer) and a influx of Western focused 3rd party software. The Japanese will eat that shit up.
