Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2011 (Sep 05 - Sep 11)

This is not really accurate.

PS3 Week 30: 938k to Wii's 2563k (1625k lead)
PS3 Week 60: 1673k to Wii's 4618k (2945k lead)
PS3 Week 90: 2276k to Wii's 6510k (4234k lead)
PS3 Week 120: 2862 / 7853 (4991)
PS3 Week 150: 3541 / 8534 (4993)
PS3 Week 180: 10214 / 5024 (5190)
PS3 Week 210: 10793 / 5625 (5168)
PS3 Week 240: 11627 / 6491 (5136)

So basically at its peak, the Wii-PS3 gap was ~5200k. It's currently 4754k (we're around week 260 now). The gap has shrunk by about 10%. I don't think the difference between the grand canyon and the LA river is 10%. If it was a Grand Canyon before, it's a Grand Canyon now.

Now, if you want to talk "active buying base" or "software buying base" or ask "Is the PS3 still a non-viable system?" or even "percentage difference in hardware install bases", then sure, the gap is closed. Just like the gap closed between the PSP and the DS three years ago. Even though the DS was still selling better, the PSP reached a critical mass beyond which it was basically safe.

But in absolute terms, the PS3 has shaved off relatively little of the Wii's lead until now.

Yeah I was referring to the market share lead that has closed. If the Wii and PS3 sold the same amount of hardware per month, the gap would still be closing in that sense

The 3DS is doing great, considering its low selling software. October is going to be slow, but November and December are going to be beasts. If people had already made up their minds and/or with all the recent announcements including release dates, decided to buy a 3DS for a particular game this holiday, then buying one early would make a whole lot of sense. I guess we could test this theory by seeing if the 3DS does decent in October with hardly no software charting. (comparing tie ratios)

Tales of Graces deserved sales like this. But congrats anyway to Namco, now just bring it to America before 2014.

Since this definetely got lost it's a better place here and shows Nintendo's expectations for December titles.

The Wii has not said its last word
Start with the Nintendo Wii that France does not give up, far from it, providing the output of no less than 5 packs. The first is already known: this is the package containing the game console Wii Sports and the GameCube lacks backwards compatibility. Although we do not yet know the contents of the other four pack, it is rumored that new consoles can see the colors of the day. Of the five packs, one should provide a carton as Nintendo potential sales of 250,000 copies. Besides this, the other four will be more Modet packs with about 60 or 70,000 copies per pack provided. The price of the packs has not been announced but should be similar to that already announced, that is to say € 149 including tax.

Software side, Nintendo France put on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to boost sales of Wii. The potential sale is announced of 250,000 units (70,000 collector versions with remote, 180,000 normal version), against 30,000 and 40,000 for Xenoblade for Kirby's Adventure.

The 3DS is honored, and the DS still there
Although 3DS had a difficult start, Nintendo has a lot of games sell by year-end: 22,000 Starfox, Pokémon Rumble 60,000 Blast, but above 300,000 3D Super Mario Land and Mario Kart 330,000 7. These figures give dizzy but that show's ambition for the Nintendo first-party games.

For the DS, Nintendo is counting on the next Layton, Professor Layton and the Call Spectrum, to power the DS game sales with estimated sales of 200,000 copies in France. It will remain a little room for the next Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 (30 000) and Kirby Mass Attack (20,000).

Congratulations if you've read (and memorized) all those numbers!

Finally, DQX footage! Mega uploaded because the YouTube video I saw disappeared and trying to put it back is futile. Nothing too exciting or all new but, neat. Promising game.

Low quality flv, I wasn't gonna upload a giant file on my crappy connection, especially after the failed attempt to get the video back on YouTube only to have it get banned.

PS3 hardware bundle sold 24k
http://www.m-create.com/ranking/

So people saying >50k of hardware bundle are not right..
24k also sounds right because the week previous to this PS3 was selling around 30k... so normal 30k + normal 10k boast on TOX launch (for people who were interested in game but didnt got hardware bundle or were not hard core gamer enough to go for the hardware bundle.:p) and then 24k of hardware bundles

That too I guess, following that shit can't be easy. Holiday, hum. Why did I think it was going against a big title, looking @ that MC thread it's by itself, at the top to boot.
FFXIII was released the week after. You might be thinking of that.

Just going with the period of history in Garaph, first weeks over 500K include multiples from these series:

Pokémon
Dragon Quest
Monster Hunter
Final Fantasy
New Super Mario Bros.
Onimusha
Winning Eleven
Musou

Also Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Kingdom Hearts II, Mario Kart Wii, Gran Turismo 4.

Definitely closer, yeah. Now the Wii/PS3 split is about 62/38, compared to 66/34 a year before or 70/30 the year before that. Peak was about 76/24, but that was still in the first year.

No clue why tales of Xilla is selling so much, only possible explanation the extra 200k that bought it cause they want to play as Azien

Holiday media creats is going to be so good with 3ds line up and vita launch.

1. Tales has been a very densely running franchise with a lot of good - very good games in the series. It is a mostly reliable franchise that got a very high profile game.
2. FF has been a brand in decline as long as quality and missed deadlines go.
3. Series like Shin Megami have been totally absent from PS3
4. There weren't many high profile Japan focused games on PS3 released this year so far in general (it has been mostly bleak for the west as well too, as long as my memory serves for past few months)

btw, Thx Kurosaki-kun. Feels good to win the first time you've participated :D

I would really be surprised at a game selling 500k+ out of the gate and not reaching a million. I think we have to consider new franchise popularity into this before we rule out that Tales will not reach a million. It could have longer legs because of this new popularity.

Have a look at the list JoshuaJSlone posted. Most games on that list that aren't Pokemon, MonHun or Mario, did not double their first week sales, and many of the games around 500-600 didn't reach a million. Also the games with higher openings traditionally has worse legs.

Have a look at the list JoshuaJSlone posted. Most games on that list that aren't Pokemon, MonHun or Mario, did not double their first week sales, and many of the games around 500-600 didn't reach a million. Also the games with higher openings traditionally has worse legs.
I actually do have a software group specifically listing games that had openings greater than 500K and failed to reach a million. Created due to question over whether Monster Hunter Tri would make it, but since it has I really should kick it out of the group. It's a pretty small list, but I do think Xillia will join.

First day sales reports from retailers.

Good start for DQ Collection, get6-2 estimates >100k first day.

Totally anecdotal but at azalyn's store there is rise of 3DS hw sales because of MH announcements (but again totally expected since BurntPork predicted 25k for October, ahaha)

Yeah, people reported it rising on Amazon as well (Red is limited availability at 18,000 yen now)
(I am really glad that I joined the thread almost along with BurntPork and that he managed to get his member status before being banned. He is just so fuckingly awesome randomly nuts, I really like the dude and hope he stays around)

If people are buying on the assumption of MH4, why not wait until MH4 comes out so you can get the inevitable MH4 3DS limited edition bundle?
Wait 2 more years then?

You might want to remove Tri from the group since it sailed past a million in the end :p

I think he was referencing the fact that it is inevitable that he will banned. Maybe after the 3DS starts doing better he'll calm down.

He isn't banned. He has a different avatar and has been speaking reasonably since the Nintendo Conference. Maybe that's why it's hard to recognize him.

I can't understand what it's saying, outside of the "France does not give up" comment, but I'll refrain from a joke there. :p

Is it saying there's going to be other bundles this fall or something?

Last year there was a Red New Super Mario Bros Wii bundle, and it sold great for the 25th Anniversary. I figured this year they would do something similar for Zelda, it's the 25th Anniversary and there should be a Zelda related bundle, but it doesn't sound like they're doing anything with that. Also there's a problem, there's only been one other LoZ game on Wii and it was a launch title that is only $20. Not exactly a major deal to pack that in now, and would be worse than the Mario Kart Wii bundle.

I wonder if they have something in the works, like a special edition disc of some kind and a Gold Wii console. I think they'll just end up throwing together something like Smash Bros and Wii Play Motion in a bundle though.

I think it's talking about bundles, the slightly redesigned Wii and the upcoming software.

5 new Wii bundles, one is sure to include the redesigned model, possibly new colors and initial shipments for the bundles and upcoming games.

I doubt there will be a Zelda bundle. They've already talked a lot about the anniversary so I wouldn't expect anything more than what they've already announced. It's probably a bunch of different bundles for the family edition with different sets of games.

OK, so that basically means they want to seal the deal of the 4th quarter again.
Is Wii U still scheduled for 2012?

I think they may go for that still. SS, from what has been shown, seems to be the most gigantic game Nintendo has been working on recently, just maybe bar SMG, and they know that it has a lot of potential and they are going to squeeze every bit of this potential.

I think I chose my wording too dramatic :)) The fact that he got past the junior status was only short of a miracle, everyone one was whining about him, and I am really happy mods didn't listen to them. He isn't a troll and he isn't stupid either, he just takes imaginative situations that will lead to inevitable meltdown and discuss them as if they are facts. Still, I think he has a very likable personality.

I actually quoted him once without knowing it was him, i felt bad, I want his avatar back :(

It's difficult to imagine any scenario in which ToX doesn't sell at least 750k lifetime. Beyond that is sort of uncharted territory for PS3 games though because so few have have managed it in Japan. We're talking about a userbase of only 7 million in so getting above that 750k number requires some impressive software penetration.

As said by walking field, 3DS saw a considerable rise on Amazon, and now also the blue model is sold out.
But I still believe that we'll not see any effect of this 3DS surge in actual sales.
Azalyn's store is frequented by ""core-gamers"", as we can see with the not-so-high sales of Nintendo games in comparison with some games on Sony consoles... and this audience followed what happened in the last days.
Amazon is a sort of a mix between casual and core audience.
But the mass market still don't know about this games.
And, above all, it has never happened that a console saw an increase due to a big announcement.
...But it's also true that it seems MH3G ads already started...
Well, I think the highest result 3DS can do next week is staying still at 50k
If it rises at...something like 55k, then I'll believe that announcements can boost sales.

Well they've already used their two big bundle options in NSMB and Mario Kart. Those are the Wii's top selling games. After that it's Smash Bros so I guess they could go with that in a bundle, but it's not providing any more value over the Mario Kart bundle that fell to third last month, its just ... a different game.

I was thinking something like this:

51rcvcgK0RL.jpg

Except with like those New Play Control games where you can use the Wii Remote to play. Wind Waker and the Four Swords Gamecube game with Wii controls, and some small updates, I could see them putting together. They didn't announce the Wii bundle of last year until late October, or the US date of the Mario All Stars edition until almost November, so we'll see what they do. They should really be trying to push Zelda this year though to be bought with new Wii's, no matter how "dead" the Wii is.

It'll definitely be interesting to see if it has any effect. This isn't just any announcement. Announcing one of the biggest games of the year less than three months in advance is pretty insane even by Nintendo standards, and then to immidiatly start running ads for it is another pretty unique approach. I think a lot of people who're already temped might decide to pick it up when they find out MH is coming in a few months. To expect a big hardware bump is still a bit optimistic, but who knows

I don't think anouncements can boost sales(at least significantly). I think it's the MH Tri G ads that are encouraging people to purchase one but I don't think it will be anymore than a 5K boost.

Getting a 5k boost out of an announcement, even something as big as MH would be pretty impressive. I don't think it will have much effect though.

What kind of ads are we talking about anyway? I mean it's pretty obvious Tri G will be massively advertised close to release date but starting so early feels a bit weird.

It's not even a contest.
Winning Eleven runs absolute circles around FIFA.

The latest FIFA titles barely passed 10k.

They are advertising(commercials) MH Tri G and frankenstick coming to 3DS this holiday season. It's not any weirder than a month or more ago when NoA started doing commercials for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart several months before they release.

Again, as I said it's different. I doubt it made a significant increase because they anounced it at the Nintendo conference because sometimes anouncements fall through and most of the general public doesn't pay attention to these things anyway. However, when they are seeing commercials for the product it's different.

I think the best thing that comes from this announcement is really positive press and advertisement of the system. It won't give it much of a bump, but it might get it out into the public more and keep sales from declining from the current level as we head into the holiday season.
