Why are you leaving out the PS3 and Vita versions?
Seemed more more generous to the Switch version to do a single-platform comparison, and the release platforms are inconsistent between the two (no DQH1 on Vita).

DQH2 including Vita and PS3 sold somewhere closer to 673,000, while DQH1 sold in the ballpark of 830,000 (361,000 on PS4 alone).

Isn't DQH I-II around 70k now?
Famitsu chart still lists it at 58k, so I'm not sure.

DQH2 was released for PS3 too.

Nope, it's at 58k.

Almost everything in this post is wrong.

DQ Heroes had an exclusive character and boss fight on Switch.

The game was seriously expensive and I was thinking of picking it up, but not at that price. I'm surprised it sold as much as it did, honestly. The extra character and boss fight are great, but the performance is terrible, the price is high, and it eats up a ton of space on the system. I wonder if that's the reason it hasn't been announced outside of Japan.

I was wrong about DQH2 not being on PS3 (it was further down the list than I thought) and DQH1's sales on PS4 (didn't math properly), but what else is incorrect? All the numbers are from the Game Data Library charts.

We are really discussing DQH1+2 performance 6 months later ? Yup, slow week confirmed....well until the Direct and whatever implications the announcements will have on MC.
We could always talk about other 3rd party launch games like Puyo Puyo Tetris or Bomberman R. But those wouldn't suit a certain desperate narrative.

The first game sold more on PS3, on PS4 it did 360k nowhere near that 472k.

Dragon Quest is a huge franchise, but that doesn't mean its a golden goose where everything will sell hundreds of thousands of units, the Heroes collection is a sub par port of two old games, one which isn't that good anyway, at an insane price. 60k is excellent for what it is.

Look up what old ports did on PS4 at launch, the Heroes collection has actually done better than most of them.

Not like Koei or Square has been tepid due to its performance, there's like 15 Switch games announced between the 2.

I dunno. DQH1+2 on Switch was maybe the loser of launch titles that could of performed better. That's fine. But it was still a port of an old game and another even older game that was beyond expensive for what it was. If it sold 60k and the expectation was 80k+ shrug. I don't really know what I'm suppose to draw from that besides port of front loaded declining series doesn't set world on fire.

I think I'm more comfortable saying XX:HD underperformed compared to this frankly. At least they both share in common the trait that a localization would have done them some good I suppose.

Sorry for the late reply but

When for months we had the same posts repeating that Nintendo is unable to go away from 20k weekly shipmenst acceptance that this isn't true is remarkable.

True, but I thought this was accepted since last week now that the stock has stabilized around 40-50k now, which is nice.

Right, I got the PS4 and PS3 numbers mixed up.

I assume by 'old ports' you don't include cross-gen games in that (which DQH1 and 2 were). I guess it depends on your definition, but assuming you mean "port of old game to new system, not simultaneous release on more than one system", there are:

Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue (205k)
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (153k)
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (145k)
Kingdom Hearts HD I.5 + II.5 ReMIX (127k)
God of War III Remastered (61k)
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition (59k)
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (55k)
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (53k, PS4 sales only)
The Last of Us Remastered (52k)
Resident Evil 0 HD Remaster (49k)
Gravity Rush Remastered (31k)
Resident Evil HD Remaster (45k)
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered (44k)

There are some others, but these were the easiest to find.

Not even one of those games is a late port...? They are all remastered versions, sometimes with added contents/better graphics, often released on a much higher installed base.

FF Type-0 HD was released in March 2015, more than one year after PS4 launch in Japan.

So eventually something between 3.25-3.5M ltd for DQXI PS4+3DS when you throw in digital.

What was DQIX up to worldwide?

Well, you'll have to forgive me if this is a stupid question then, but what would be considered a 'late port' on PS4? Are there any non-remasters that didn't see simultaneous (or very close) release if they were also on PS3 and/or Vita?

Dynasty Warriors 8, Tales of Zestiria are two examples.

By old ports I meant old ports, Dragon Quest Heroes and Heroes II are 2 and 1 years old respectively.

Almost everything you posted where either remakes or remasters, Heroes I & II on Switch are just ports of the PS3 games with mild improvements, out of everything you posted only DMC4 and The Last of Us are remotely alike.

Even though this includes a bunch of remasters, by this list I dunno how we could say DQH1+2 underperformed.

Also, those last of us sales give me life

Looks like the Pokémon Company got Tadanobu Asano and Mana Ashida for their Pokkén Tournament DX TVCM:

Well, yeah, that's what confused me about the comment about "old ports", because I didn't associate that idea with games only a year or two old. I suppose in that sense DQXI on Switch will be an old port of a sort too, then.

I don't think it can break 4M in Japan. Maybe the Switch version can push it over that, but not 3DS+PS4.

Ya, I'm wondering if the western versions do better than typical though. I also think that the Switch version will do well. Maybe not 1M+ in Japan as a late port, but perhaps 500k+ as a portable version of the PS4 game (I assume that is the version being ported).

Physical, no. But including digital I can see it happening. It sold 175K digital first two days, should probably be somewhere around 300-350K right now.

Unless there were digital discounts, the % of digital units over total units decreases over time, so 300-350k digital sales might look really unlikely.

3DS is 400k+ YOY. And still selling more on a weekly basis.

This is surely an unexpected performance. It will not probably keep up with late 2016 3DS but this will be another year above 2m units.

3DS has an unexpected performance so far but the reason is so up at Famitsu is it includes one extra holiday week this year. (53 vs. 52)

Nintendo has business meeting with retailers tomorrow, right after the direct. Sega had its own yesterday afternoon.

As Chris pointed out, Famitsu has one extra holiday week this year. You also need to take into account the 100k for the Pokémon Nintendo 2DS that aren't tracked by any tracker. So the YoY increase is closer to 100k than 400k... still an impressive performance for a nearly 7yo platfom well past saturation point.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
So only DQ Builders and PSO 2 announced in the Direct from Japan. Meanwhile Bethesda going all in..

so, after the Direct, would you guys share your mind about Japanese third parties on Switch?
My take on the matter is well known and after today...

Really good and quality support by Japanese third parties. Square Enix is even more invested in Switch.

You should not expect any substential support from Japan until this time next year. They are caught off guard with Switch success and whatever they do to remedy that takes time.

Wait for TGS I suppose.
Not too worried really. The Switch is going to eventually be transitioned to. I'm just surprised Western devs did it faster given how little faith I had in them. Doom and Skyrim are bigger than anything Japanese publishers will have out this year. . . how?

so you basically agree with me that the situation is a disaster.

So far Bethesda and SE seem like the best third parties for Switch. What happened to Switch Tales of and Taiko? Is Bamco canceling those since One Piece bombed!?

Yes, SE is the Japanese Bethesda

too bad they are the only one, it seem. (maybe we could add Koei Tecmo...maybe?)

They are not. Koei Tecmo. Namco Bandai. Marvelous. Nippon Ichi. Level-5 is developing Inazuma Eleven.

Capcom has a more pessimistic attitude but, as Konami, it does not have much for other platforms either.
