Media Create Sales: Week 36, 2017 (Sep 04 - Sep 10)

I'm still baffled they chose to put the original XB on New 3DS. I wanted it on the regular model, but they insisted it wasn't doable. But it feels like that kills the chance of a Switch HD version.

So far we've not seen a single Switch game by Nintendo on both 3DS and Switch. There's MH XX and that party game by BN that is (and Wii U also, also that was by G-rounding). Any other 3DS+Switch games I'm not remembering?

Edit: DQX counts... sorta... with the 3DS version being Cloud-streamed ala PSO2 Switch.

I hope XC2 does well. It's probably the best release it's had (not on the end of a console's life, not on a dead console, new release on a portable in japan).
Not sure if there's a ton of JRPG competition in december either so we'll see.
Nintendo's promotional material hasn't been very good, but we'll see

Xenoblade didn't really come out on the end of the life for the Wii in Japan, though. It was only a couple of weeks after Galaxy 2 launched, and while the Wii was no longer in its growth period, it still had a respectable 2010 (although slightly behind 2009). Now, the western releases came out when the situation was more dire, to be sure, but the situation for the Wii in 2010 was more favorable, which probably helped Xenoblade as it had very strong legs.

It definitely has a chance to be the best selling game in the series. Hitting numbers similar to what Xenoblade did on the Wii in Japan while having stronger western sales alone would be enough to do that, and I don't think that's asking for much at all.

2010 was some year. DKCR, Goldeneye, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, Galaxy 2, and Xenoblade in Japan. That was a good year to be a Wii owner, that's for sure (and of course the hype for 3DS was CRAZY).

At least we got XB in both EU and NA, it just took forever (especially in NA).

Hey I'll tell ya what's missing from our lives; The Last Story 2 on Switch. Come on Mistwalker and Arzest, GET TO IT! :p

There's also Fire Emblem Warriors.

Edit: And I wouldn't be surprised at all if XB2 ends up the best selling game in the series in Japan and WW (assuming it's high quality anyway)

Wii was poison for RPGs and Wii U was poison for everything, the 3DS port came out on at a time, small userbase.

Xenoblade 2 is the first time those games launch on a succesful platform at a good time, it should do alright, even if it isn't good.

Is Xenoblade 2 Nintendo's most expensive game to date? It definitely is more expensive than their standard price for games, and I think it may be more than Xenoblade X too.

expensive as in the cost to buy the special edition or the cost to make the game?
I imagine BOTW beats it out on both counts.
Also imagine it's much cheaper than XCX

will minecraft on n3ds damage the future sales of minecraft on the vita?I mean it's minecraft on a console with a large userbase after all.

Also with minecraft and a bunch of upcoming 3ds games,I think the console may have a chance to live through 2018 as well,it will be children's console or something like that,a cheap console with minecraft, animal crossing for kids or something like that

Expensive as in what the standard edition's MSRP is. Most Nintendo games are 6,458yen Zelda's was 7,538yen but Xenoblade 2's is 8,618yen.

Its less than 500 yen more than what they charged for Xenoblade X or Bayonetta 2, Switch cards are expensive to make and they're selling their big RPG at the same prie as others.

Either way far from their most expensive game, back in the day Nintendo sold several Super Famicom or Nintendo 64 games at 10k yen.

Good thing they did, because with the Switch's concept don't they kind of have to? With the Wii and DS they had a strong-selling home and handheld platform. Then a strong-selling handheld and weak home platform in the 3DS and WiiU.

Now they have both in one, and I can't see them releasing a 3DS successor without kneecapping the sales of it or the Switch, so essentially Switch now has to pull double duty to make up for only being one platform to get the same return.

Should be feasible if in two years and a bit they have Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Splatoon, 3D Mario, Zelda, and perhaps Animal Crossing all on one system, but I'm just saying.

I agree, the Switch to me was kinda like a "double or nothing" play by Nintendo. They really couldn't afford to fail, and judging by the library of games games it'll have after ten months, is day they did everything they could to make sure this didn't fail. Even without having a football game available, it's going to have a very robust and varied first year library. I also wouldn't mind a couple more fighters.

On Minecraft Vita expect it to dissapear in the coming months, its sales already slowed down, it was released on a better form on a more attractive handheld and the 3DS version even if late to the party should be one of the final nail in the coffin.

Xenoblade 2 could be on a 32GB game card which is why it's so expensive.

I have nothing against the price, as others have pointed out RPGs often cost around that and more (and I have paid more), I was just curious, rate adjusted if it is Nintendo's most expensive title MSRP. Card price probably does play a big factor in the price. Nintendo seems too try hard to keep games on the lower end of the pricing scale compared to their 3rd parties. It is very much in line with the other Xenoblade games though.

I just went to see how much the Wii U sold during XCX week and damn, only 22k. And that was Golden Week.

XB2 should hopefully benefit much more from releasing in December, where Switch should pull much bigger numbers than 22k.

will minecraft on n3ds damage the future sales of minecraft on the vita?I mean it's minecraft on a console with a large userbase after all.

Also with minecraft and a bunch of upcoming 3ds games,I think the console may have a chance to live through 2018 as well,it will be children's console or something like that,a cheap console with minecraft, animal crossing for kids or something like that
It doesn't seem to be getting anything substantial, but enough for it to keep floating till the end of 2018.
I'm not sure if Minecraft Vita is still selling, but I'd imagine this and the switch version would cannibalize quite a bit of its sales
Expensive as in what the standard edition's MSRP is. Most Nintendo games are 6,458yen Zelda's was 7,538yen but Xenoblade 2's is 8,618yen.
Ah, missed that. Kind of nuts.
Wonder why

It may be announced later.

The only reason I think not is because of the Super Mario Odyssey bundle.

They will no doubt keep having those bundles available until the end of the year.

While in comparison, Xenoblade 2 got this:

DJo4dvhUQAAZcA2.jpg

And a LE of the game.

Considering that Nintendo stopped producing Splatoon 2 bundles to make way for SMO bundles makes it sound like if a Xenoblade 2 bundle did occur, it would be equivalent to MHXX for Switch and only last for one week.

--------------------

Long time without posting pictures.

Switch stock is similar to couple weeks ago, difficult to find in Kyoto. Still with lotteries at small shops, and even second hand units are quite expensive.

Pre-orders for Odyssey started yesterday and stores got Mario-themed. Reservations were bigger than 3D World and 3D Land. After the Direct, lots of Nintendo games were able to pre-order. Xenoblade 2 and Girls Mode, alongside with Mario amiibo, did especially well. Super Famicom Mini is very popular and there were a lot of people asking about when reservation will start, and how many units Nintendo is planning to ship.

Legend of Heroes and Yakuza are also very popular and they have stands outside Sofmap.

Nintendo business meeting for holidays this morning.

Super Mario Odyssey was the highlight, new 2DS LL Pokemon LE gained attention too.

Guess we can expect a decent HW boost with Pokémon USUM.

Xenoblade 2 could be on a 32GB game card which is why it's so expensive.

Could? There's 0% chance it's not on a 32GB card, not when XCX was over 20GB. And as you're pointing out, that price is all the proof you need.

Bic Camera confirmed another lottery for this Sunday 17th on 14 stores.

This time, only 5 stores will have the Splatoon 2 Bundle, the other 9 will be standalone (gray and neon).

http://www.biccamera.co.jp/shopguide/news/nintendo_switch/index.html

So, finally the bundle running out, eh.

Can't wait to see if Splatoon 2 can maintain 1:1 sales with the Switch without the bundles.

In terms of SMO I wonder if it can open above >500K. The Switch should be over 2 million by the time it launches, so it would require 25% attach rate at launch.

If xenoblade 2 did 250k in Japan, i would roll on the ground due to happiness lol. As i dont believe it is able to even hit 200k without bundle there. Sad sad fact.

They've revealed games in November that came out the next February/March. Mostly the Zelda remasters. I'd expect something on that scale to accompany Kirby.

I think you're probably right, but I do think there is a chance for a biggish announcement at the Nintendo world championships next month

Nintendo has changed the entire philosophy with Switch.

Worldwide Friday releases for every first party and introduction of new games many months before release, that was something they tried only with Pokemon before. The days 3DS titles were announced and came out a few weeks later are gone, they take everything more seriously. Even if something new occurs next months the chances of it coming out suddenly next quarter are slim, with other known games in hold for 2018 and later, unless it's very low profile.
