Thinking better, what are the medium / big PS3 games from Japanese third parties for 2013 so far?

I can think these:

Devil may Cry
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
LR:Final Fantasy XIII
Gundam Breaker ( just announced, we don't know its potential, but supposing it isn't
something very low budget...)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f
KH HD 1.5

I've just realized that week 38 tends to boost sales a little. I think the 23rd September is a special Holiday in Japan. Maybe somebody can confirm that.

Can we expect a small boost for Mario, Taiko, Brain Training and others?
Maybe it's a scheduled school break?

Edit:
Yep, Autumnal Equinox Day

Does anyone think that Dragon Quest 11 may go to GREE/iPhone? I'm already anticipating it tbh.
No.

Looking at the western 3rd party games this generation, maybe around 95% of the games are multiplatform, probably most likely because the parity of hardware power between PS3 and Xbox 360. In Japan, it was a bit different since the Xbox 360 isnt selling very well.

Now that WiiU comes out, is there any reason to think why publishers wont do multiplatform with PS3 and WiiU? I can see it with games that are built heavily around asymetric gameplay with the WiiU controller. Anything other reasons? I'm mostly thinking about in the next 1-2 years.

More so than power parity (happened last gen, yet plenty of exclusives) the reasons are basically cost + userbase size.

HD games are expensive, and neither the xbox nor PS3 dominated like the PS2 did. Major publishers invested heavily and banked heavily on the HD consoles over the Wii. In a sense, the PS3 and Xbox helped each other (PS3 was not selling well enough so Xbox got ports, Xbox was not selling better than the wii, but Xbox+PS3 userbase was larger, therefore that environment was attractive enough for devs to stay there than migrate to the Wii)

Sure, i just ment that because of power parity, it was no big problem to do multiplatform games :) It is now similar with PS3 and WiiU, both systems are powerful, so is there any reason not to do multiplatform games (unless the WiiU games are heavly built around the use of the WiiU controller). As you say, developement cost have gone up.

You could apply this same argument to 3DS and Vita and while everyone was predicting every single 3DS 3rd party game would go to Vita it didn't happen.

I actually thought that we would see more multiplatform games for Vita and 3DS. So far we've only seen a handful. EDIT: I might add that i mainly though this when the 3DS and the Vita were both priced at 25k yen.

But about this, it is not an arguement from me, it is a question. I'm wondering what people's views are on this, why publishers should stick to one platform only (PS3 or WiiU), or make multiplatform games.

It's way too early to really say what will happen. If PS4 is successful I imagine a lot of games will just go to that and maybe Wii U if it isn't graphically intensive. If PS4 bombs publishers will have to stick with this gens consoles and Wii U (assuming that its a success). It's obvious there will be PS3/Wii U multiplatforom games. The real question should be asked about PS4/Wii U.

Edit: The reason I believe a lot of multiplat 3DS/Vita games haven't been made is that it just wouldn't be worth the time and effort for developers. You add in the cost of having to port the game and will you actually make more than if the game was exclusive? With the PS3/360 in the west there were definitely a large amount of people who only own one of the systems. How many people exclusively own a Vita but not a PSP or 3DS? Basically let's look at Time Travellers for an example. Did the Vita version add sales to the overall total or would have sold the same amount as an exclusive and they just went for the other version because it existed

I'm mostly curious about the next 1-2 years because the PS4 wont be out for probably 1 year from now on, while the WiiU is out in about 2 months from now. If its obvious, well, on the previous page in this thread i saw mixed opinions on it, that is mostly why i wanted to ask :)

Personally i expect to see multiplatform games, but there have been several of PS3 exlcusive games in Japan, so i guess that it is not totally out of the question that something similar can happen to the WiiU as well, at least in the next 1-2 years.

Yeah, i agree that this is most likely the reason. I mainly thought to see more multiplatform games on 3DS/Vita when both systems were priced at 25k yen. I thought maybe this would lead to a more equal userbase than the huge difference that we see now.

Well the thing about many PS3 exclusives is that they were on PS3 because it was the only system that was viable that could run them on the engines they were designed for. I think we may see some timed exclusives but outside of stuff like Monster Hunter ports and Dragon Quest X I don't expect many huge (non Nintendo published) exclusives.

That is true indeed, although it seemed to have been a viable business option to support only one console in those cases. As you mentioned earlier, porting games cost extra money and the question is if porting increases sales or simply divide it on two platforms instead of one (i.e selling 50k+50k on two systems or 100k on one system). Maybe a bit different now that the PS3 has a userbase of ~8 million while WiiU is a new system. I dont know how publishers view this. But it shall be interesting to see how the publishers makes their business moves.

Level 5 is absolutely horrible with brand management. They take forever to make games but if it sells well they'll quickly run the series into ground with low effort sequels, ports and rereleases. However they will still take forever on localizing their titles for the west.

there's been quite a few of those OVA + game discs lately, is this a recent trend? if so has there been any indication that its working out financially for the companies?

Looking at these most of the time bad Sony 1st party software sales it´s obvious why some really try their best to exclude 1st party sales on Nintendo systems, when talking about a healthy software environment.

But to be honest I´m more interested in FF3 sales next week.

it gets... redonculous.

Somewhere between my house and the shops i pulled a muscle at the top of my ass. No joking - spend last two days in agony.

I guess i'll upload the photos later. The general feel is the PSP and 3DS dominate store space and i'm definitely interested in doing a "$100 library builder" PSP challenge (without buying the games of course)

Gundam Breaker ( just announced, we don't know its potential, but supposing it isn't
something very low budget...)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f
KH HD 1.5
I don't think MGSGZ is dated yet. I doubt it's 2013 anyway.

You can probably add FFXIV.

Thinking better, what are the medium / big PS3 games from Japanese third parties for 2013 so far?

I can think these:

Devil may Cry
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes
LR:Final Fantasy XIII
Gundam Breaker ( just announced, we don't know its potential, but supposing it isn't
something very low budget...)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f
KH HD 1.5
FFX HD hopefully.
