For the people who aren't regulars in Media Create threads:

What is Dengeki?
Dengeki is a website (it's also a brand of magazines / a book and manga imprint) that publishes sell-through Japanese sales data from ASCII Media Works, Inc. Every week they publish a nationwide snapshot of Japanese video game sales with the cooperation of more than 3,000 specialty game stores and convenience store chains all across Japan.

Why post Dengeki numbers when you have Media Create / Famitsu in the OP?
Among other reasons, Dengeki gives us sales numbers for titles that are too low to debut with numbers on Media Create / Famitsu. So, their liberal reporting allows us to track sales that we wouldn't be able to otherwise.

Is Dengeki less accurate than Media Create / Famitsu?
No. All three trackers are inherently trustworthy. However, they have quirks that make some people prefer one over the other:

Media Create:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from Media Create Co., Ltd.
+ Top 20 software sales with numbers
+ Top 50 software sales without numbers
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sometimes presents sell-through figures
+ Releases first (at the same time as Famitsu)
+ Nintendo uses these numbers in their investor presentations
+ Distinguishes between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Does not track download cards
- Does not provide software sales figures past the Top 20

Famitsu:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from Enterbrain, Inc.
+ Top 30 software sales with numbers
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sell-through ranges for all titles
+ Has the most historical data available for GAFfers
+ Tracks download cards
+ Releases first (at the same time as Media Create)
- Does not distinguish between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Does not report total software sales

Dengeki:
+ Nationwide Japanese sales data from ASCII Media Works, Inc.
+ Top 50 software sales with numbers
+ Top 3 software sales per platform
+ Total software sales per platform
+ Total hardware sales per platform
+ Sell-through figures for a few titles
+ Distinguishes between 3DS and 3DS LL
- Inconsistent data reporting over the years
- Does not track download cards
- Releases nearly 24 hours after Media Create / Famitsu

Superior tracker confirmed

The game is probably >5M counting sales from the other trackers + download anyway.

Oh man, MHFG...that game is terrible from everything I've seen and read.

And nice to see an updated LTD for MHP3rd. Dat 5+ million.

Dengeki deserves to be in the OP with all of the info it gives, but maybe it may clutter the OP.

I'll put my Vita/3DS sales bickering aside for once.

"If the DS succeeds, we will rise to heaven, but if it fails we will sink to hell."

And its successor guaranteed that spot in heaven Yamauchi-san.

Im glad you live enough to see the 3DS thrive sales wise & software wise this year.

Dengeki, you forgot which has now become the most important MH game. Media Create will help you:

mother of god

Yeah, MH4 might struggle to reach that.
I doubt it even has a chance. It will need to build that MH fanbase that the PSP did which all lead up to MHP3rd.

Did people really start calling it the most important MH in the other thread?

Well it's close to the first week sales (and MH 4 only had 2 days Vs 5 days for MHP3) it'll be interesting to see how this title moves. Any word about the game with retailers or second hand sales?
Chris already pointed this out but MHP3rd was selling out for nearly 2 months iirc...meaning everything they could ship was gone the moment they hit shelves, so the day comparison isn't of much use here.

Having said that, does Degenki track download cards like Famitsu?

Since MH4 sold 1,823,207, and it had a 95% sell-through, this means the first week retail shipment is 1,919,165. So, given the 2+ million shipment, around 80-100k of digital download sales right from the eShop?
Do we know what's the current situation in Japanese stores right now?

Looking at Amazon.co.jp, it seems people is buying lots of 3DS
Black 3DS XL - 10th
Red 3DS XL - 15th
Blue 3DS XL - 16th
White 3DS XL - 17th
Mint 3DS XL - 18th
Grey 3DS XL - 19th
Pink 3DS XL - 20th
MH4 black bundle - 24th, at 32,000 Yen
White 3DS - 47th
Red 3DS - 66th
Blue 3DS - 73rd
MH4 white bundle - 87th, no price

The majority of them saw big rises compared to yesterday.
Strong preorder start for Dark Souls II, in every SKU, Basara 4, pretty good for P&DZ as well.

Dengeki reports a virtual sellout for MH4 too though (95%).

Interesting. Funny then how Dengeki numbers are actually closer to Famitsu than Media Create but yeah tracker discrepancies, etc.

Yeah, seems so.
Honestly I feel like Media Create under-tracked Monster Hunter 4 this week.

Dengeki's / Famitsu's figures seem more appropriate.

Okay I'll try to do a quick summary of bigger things since the last quick summary.

Unsung Story (Playdek/Matsuno/Boelinger, mobile devices): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681213
-Matsuno (FFT, FFXII, Vagrant Story) and PlayDek (iOS Board/Card Game Conversions) are creating a new IP called Unsung Story.
-Matsuno is directing a TRPG (FFT style game) for mobile. He is also creating the universe the game is set in.
-Christophe Boelinger (Agricola) is creating a card game (an actual card game like Ascension/Dominion, not a social card game) for mobile based on this universe.
-It is implied Christophe Boelinger's game will be out first, as it introduces the universe.
-Playdek makes actual games on iOS (mostly board game conversions), so feel free to raise your hopes here.
-Playdek is a California based company, so don't worry that this won't come to the West.

Gravity Rush 2 (Vita): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681249
-This is pretty self explanatory.
-All we have is a brief trailer.
-Team Siren has been renamed Team Gravity, so this series will probably be around a while.

Crimson Dragon (Xbox One) New Info: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681353
-Supports traditional controls instead of just Kinect.
-Is $20 (and I assume downloadable?)
-Has had its visuals notably updated since it moved from Xbox 360 IMO.
-Not that the Xbox One is going to sell in Japan, but since this is probably their most relevant title for Japan right now, I figure it's worth reporting here.

Yakuza Ishin (PS3/PS4) New Info: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=680909
-This got new trailers.
-It seems to have decidedly more RPG elements than previous entries.
-The four player multiplayer seems to exist unless I misunderstood the video.
-Combat looks a bit different than normal, but very fluid.
-It has all the things you would expect out of Yakuza like minigames, hostesses (Geisha), and otherwise.

Theatrhythm (3DS) New Info: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681041
-This got new trailers that showed off many of the new features.
-Square Enix has stated that they expect it to be the final Theatrhythm game, so they want to make a solid base game (I assume feature wise) and then keep adding DLC until it's as complete as possible. Think about Rock Band 3 as an example.

I'm assuming the bigger 3DS games are waiting for Nintendo's conference.

Yakuza Ishin (PS3/PS4): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=680909
-This got new trailers.
-It seems to have decidedly more RPG elements than previous entries.

Theatrhythm (3DS): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681041
-This got new trailers that showed off many of the new features.
-Square Enix has stated that they expect it to be the final Theatrhythm game, so they want to make a solid base game (I assume feature wise) and then keep adding DLC until it's as complete as possible. Think about Rock Band 3 as an example.

Maybe it's one of those late port test games to gauge audience interest and find out how many Vita owners are interested in Monster Hunter. (As a WiiU owner, I know all about late ports and test games :p )
Don't think its a test (everyone and their mom knows a real MH would sell well on Vita), but rather that MHFG is all Sony could get out of Capcom outside of the main series (which is exclusive to Nintendo).

Sorry I mean the near-TGS Nintendo Direct.

I kind of think of that one as a more conference like event since it usually has a lot of announcements.
Shin'en confirmed their new Wii U games will be unveiled in the next quarter starting Oct 1st, Nano Assault NEO was unveiled last year at the Fall Conference.

That's my main evidence on a time frame, it might mirror the 2007 and 2008 conferences being early October (10th and 2nd respectively).

And there MUST be one, with 2014 looking empty and so much to talk about like the Fall Update and other stuff that Emily Rogers was talking about throughout the year, they can NOT skip this year like they did in 2009.

Not yet, but I would be really surprised if it didn't.

clearly.

NCL hasn't been involved with a conference since 2011 except for their last global effort at E3 2012, they even skipped E3 this year! You can see the conferences they were involved with on their event page:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/event/archive.html

After their huge 3DS conference in 2011 they moved to the Nintendo Direct format. NoA had an event for Wii U last year, but it wasn't on the scale of NCL's conference in 2011 either. It's hard to say if NCL will have another or stick to the Nintendo Direct format of announcing things in the short term. It's probably worth noting that two of the biggest games this year did come out of that 2011 conference (Tomodachi Collection and Monster Hunter 4) so Nintendo really is operating entirely on their Nintendo Direct format now if they don't have another conference in the near future.

So, Dengeki doesn't include download cards but has MH4 100k higher than Media Create.

So undertracking/overtracking?
Capcom said that Monster Hunter 4 had shipped more than 2 million units (+ eShop sales) at launch.

Dengeki said that MH4 had a 95% sell-through with 1.82 million, or ~1.91 million retail shipments.

I'm inclined to believe that Monster Hunter 4 had a very high sell-through, and ~90,000 eShop sales sounds very reasonable.

So from my perspective, it looks like Media Create undertracked, because if MH4 had a very high sell-through, 1.71 million looks a tad too low to mesh nicely with Capcom's "2 million shipments (+ eShop sales)" figure.

Sorry, in case you missed my correction, I meant a "Big Direct".

Surprised to see the lack of a bump for other notable 3DS titles. With the big hardware jump, that could go one of two ways -- new buyers of the system who are essentially MH only players or a lot of people just buying the new special edition system.

I think a Direct right now wouldn't have any big announcements. They already revealed quite a few of the Wii U games they have for 2014 since they didn't have anything much prepared for this year, and 3DS still has too many 2013 titles to focus on even if they're not million selling titles.

The Matsuno/Playdek collabo seems to be rather fleshed out in the world-department. But that's to be expected from Matsuno. Really interested now.

Sony must have been happy with GR1 sales, especially if they rename them to Team Gravity. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I guess that kills the Siren games?

Crimson Dragon is such a weird project. Not that I'm complaining about a Panzer Dragoon like game by the PD father but it's such a minuscule release... Totally unlike Microsoft IMO. At least they don't seem to be doing the same mistake Nintendo did with Sin & Punishment 2 and release it at full retail price. S&P absolutely deserved it but I think it could have sold waaay better at a lower price and brought more profit in the long run.

I've brought this up in the Atlus buyout threads but I really wonder if one of SEGA's reasons to buy them was so they could use Atlus USA' strong niche brand and efficient localization pipeline for some of their own titles like Yakuza. I mean, Atlus USA consistently publishes games that sell in the lower five digits. Just speculating and not all that relevant to the Japanese market.

I'm assuming the bigger 3DS games are waiting for Nintendo's conference.
Dragon Quest XI believe.

On a serious note, Kirby seems likely and another moderately big third party game.

Junichi Masuda, Pokémon X and Y's director, has tweeted that pre-orders in Japan have surpassed a million as of today.

It's roughly at the same point in the buildup that Black and White preorders crossed the million.

So no 3DS announcements at TGS so far.... I guess I just don't get it. I mean shouldn't this be about the time that we see the games that started development back when the holy trinity released? There hasn't even been anything small?

In the last years, most of the TGS announcements have been in the month before the event. And, in the pre-TGS, 3DS saw many announcements. Moreover, if you expected 3DS announcements in Sony conferences XD

As Nirolak pointed out above . if they new games to show . wouldn't it be more likely that they will be announced on a Nintendo direct ?

EDIT : Also this :

Moreover, if you expected 3DS announcements in Sony conferences XD

only a million pre-orders... it's gonna flop cause the preorder on Amazon and COMG are not high! ;)

EDIT / Also .this :
I intend to make a list of all the games publishers announced in the past ~4 weeks either later today or tomorrow so we can compare how many announcements there have been for each, and from who.

It does feel a bit lighter than I expected on the 3DS front to me right now, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt until I see the next Direct.

That said, I think it's not a huge secret that I think smartphones are eating up some games that would otherwise be going to 3DS and Vita, so I think at least a fair amount of sparseness isn't unexpected.

Black / White didn't have big supply problems at launch. If Nintendo does the same again maybe X / Y will come close to its opening.

The biggest blow is that some of these projects are actually headed by renowned producers and directors. It shows how serious they are about the smartphone market.
