Capcom announced animes for both Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter Stories, so that's part of their business strategy now, at least for their non-service games.

Kinda surprising for Ace Attorney. It's a long running series and the last entry's age rating was quite high.

Kind of a bummer to see Vita drop below 10k. :(

Bizarre how well Splatoon is holding.

Speaking of Splatoon, I often play late at night and it seems to be largely Japanese players. I usually get absolutely destroyed when playing.

i really wonder what splatoon and super mario maker would have done in place of nintendo land and nsmbu at launch. it's so weird it took nintendo so long to figure it out with the wii u and pumped it full of the most standard games for the first year.

isn't a little too early to judge SMM so positevely over New Mario U and NintendoLand? And, how could NintendoLand being considered a standard game/old IP?

02./00. [WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U <ACT> (Nintendo) {2012.12.08} (¥5.985) - 163.528 / NEW
06./00. [WIU] Nintendo Land <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.12.08} (¥4.935) - 72.121 / NEW

It was Christmas, and launch, but at the same time no install base available, even if the Wii U sold pretty good at launch (308k)
I'd say that those two games debuted pretty well and were even able to last before being bundled. With bundles they ended up selling pretty solid numbers too.

I don't know if we can claim NOW/TODAY that Super Mario Maker is/would have been a better product.
Splatoon probably would have been, looking at how it is actually able to attract new owners to a dead console (the baseline actually increased after its release)

I think that the Wii U big software issues wasn't Mario U + Land at launch, but the barren empty dead valley that waited the Wii U owners and scared the potential Wii U new buyers since the launch untile the next June '13.

You said publishers were switching from handheld to console, and the only one of fitting that description is Gravity Rush due to Sony no longer making games for the Vita. Based on past performance I don't see God Eater or Toukinden switching to console only anytime soon.

in addition to the many many other issues regarding the wii u (and nintendo really seemed to try and find every sort of way to fuck up and then executed on that plan), i think one issue at the start was a severe lack of interest. the wii had been a minigame collection console for many people, and the wii u's big game was a minigame collection. new super mario bros. was a popular series, but they had just released a new super mario bros. a few months prior on a more popular platform. there was very little to understand why the gamepad was important or an innovation. telling people they could make their own mario levels would have gone a long way to being a defining piece of software for the system, and could have been bundled at launch. splatoon was immediately well received and a fresh ip compared to the concept of nintendo land, which felt like a cynical way at turning facebook gamers into console gamers.

Still selling 1k/week each time an episode is broadcasted.
Too bad the anime has been in production hell, but it's still helping the game selling a bit better, Resurection should eat its legs but on retail it could end up around 400k which is fine despite the drop from the original GE2 sales (PSV+PSP SKU around 650-700k)

You said publishers were switching from handheld to console, and the only one of fitting that description is Gravity Rush due to Sony no longer making games for the Vita. Based on past performance I don't see God Eater or Toukinden switching to console only anytime soon.

We had many examples before portable franchises becoming multiplatform with home consoles and it didn't work. For a potential complete switch they must become different games from what they are.

I think you could have expressed the point better, though.

You don't need to make up a CoD scenario, when you can just point at Kiwami.

Except,it was noted by TK that for Kiwami:

Overseas sales have been in line with expectations

I don't even know if they want that because they are still releasing everything on Vita/PS3/3DS/NX anyway. If they wanted/cared about the PS4 that much, I think you'd see a lot more PS4-only titles.

This is, at best, meeting halfway to doomsday between Sony and SE. Or, as I said, the simple current best path for them given that they cannot not release products and they have to make the best of what the market has to offer.

I think its pretty damn clear SE are making PS4 their home for not only there marquee Japanese and Western titles but also mid tier. Exclusivity is missing the point as there is clearly an audience on handhelds and for now PS3. No other system will offer such a library, making PS4 the system to go for SE's fanbase. Perhaps this will result in a better reception for all their titles on PS4.

SaGa and Mana are PSV exclusive for now however no western release is planned. Therefore I assume that the PS4 SKU for mid to low tier titles is being primarily introduced due to its success in the West.

after this holiday seasons we'll have a good comparison on the field for

Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer
Pokemon Super Mistery Dungeon

We'll have to wait for MH Stories for a complete picture of how well those spinoff of very popular series can sell

Mana PS4 has been discussed and SAGA director wanted to make it for PS4 but SE insisted on Vita AFAIK.

If you want to compare spinoffs that's fine, but they don't determine popularity of series. Wild World is still selling, I don't see YW2 anywhere.

2016 will be so fricking packed. In the other hand holiday lineup of PS4 is once again really poor. Not like one title would have changed that completely.

You are right, but hasn't Yokai Watch 2 sold more than New Leaf (I think you meant that, not Wild World) among the three versions? Of course, it's not an "equal" comparison, but I don't neither think that we can assume that a New leaf expension would have sold 2+ millions.
I wonder what could be the reasons for spin offs from a less popular franchise should sell better than spin offs from most popular franchises. Isn't HDD a valid spin off to be compared to Busters? They both are the first spin off of their main series, and the product value/proposition seem comparable to me

Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016, now what's holiday title for PS4 left?

2016 will be so fricking packed. In the other hand holiday lineup of PS4 is once again really poor. Not like one title would have changed that completely.

It's strange to see so few big hitters align with the price cut. maybe a mismanagement from Sony about the timing of this price cut?
We saw a great reaction to the release of MGSV, but it seems to be a temporary one; we saw a very solid pre-TGS/TGS showcase for PS4 support in Japan; but honestly PS4 release schedule seems pretty barren until early 2016 (DQ Builders in January?)

Persona 5 delayed to Summer 2016, now what's holiday title for PS4 left?

But how is this possible? They ASSURED it would've been a 2015 release, how can they lie?

Seriously though, I thought it could've still been a 2015 release in Japan, considering how many titles get very short announcement-to-release periods, and surely such a huge delay is surprising.

so you mean that they will go to NX? no more sony handheld in the future...

of course sony started to compete with Nintendo but if it was not for MH boom what would we discuss to?
I meant that during this generation sony dropped the "handheld ball", they realized mobile rose a large part of the market and after PS4 slow start (despite the premise) they probably realized it's better to focus resources to only one platform (don't forget PS4 took more than one year to have better LTD than the Dreamcast and it's far behind the Gamecube, not properly two successful platforms...)
so first we had the "local transition", from PS3 to PS4 and after MGSV results it can be considered done, so now it's time to "niche transition", bringing as much as possible Vita games.
Danganrompa was never released to home, the third chapter will be sold on PS4 too; GE the same, they are just preparing the path to follow
S-E made the first step, now other medium companies like Spike-Chinsoft are doing the same; if customers will "follow the path" other companies will make the step and the transition will be complete
Sony needs just one platform to rule in Japan

Or it performed according to expectations and that is why the sequel is on PS4 as well and more ambitious.

So Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is getting a physical release in Japan on November 19.

That'll be an interesting game to track.

The issue is that even if the lineup is great at 2016, not having a great 2015 PS4 holiday means that overall the market will continue to deteriorate, ass well as the hardware becoming less desirable.

If there is NX presence at Holiday 2016, and it's new/shinny/cheaper/smaller/handheld, it could really undermine Sony.

EDIT: No, it's not. PS3 Uncharted 3 opened at 124.989 units. I expect Uncharted 4 to open at 100k or less and not move that many PS4s, since this is the same market that bought it for MGSV already

Also LOL at FFXV coming out in 2016

PS4's 2016 lineup is in good shape. Lots of mid tier sellers that will keep interest and sales steady.

2015's holidays season doesn't look too great for it though.

Most of those games won't release on Holiday 2016 or won't do much for it

Is Uncharted big in Japan?
EDIT: No, it's not. PS3 Uncharted 3 opened at 124.989 units. I expect Uncharted 4 to open at 100k or less.

Also LOL at FFXV coming out in 2016

Most games will release in 2016. Dragon quest 11, and final fantasy 15 might be big hitters backed up by a lot of mid tier which should do from 200k to 500k range
