I think an issue with it was that I’m not sure FE has that much pull in terms of spin offs and a hardcore idol JRPG does sound weird.

I do think it would appeal to the persona crowd and most JRPG fans just fine if they actually played it.

While controversial, I think they should actually change more from the western release. Barry being obsessed with a child is pretty offputting despite not being malicious in this case.

Whatever happens, I hope the idea of Nintendo and Atlus doing a game together continues.

#FE is a very solid game. Yes, the cross-over is pretty awful imo. Yes, the idol theme is a bit much for me at times. Yes, it can come across as Persona-lite to its detriment, but...it is still a really great game with a battle system that remains engaging (imo) for most of the game (sessions get too long/thoughtless as the chains get longer and gain so many connections), strong dungeons, and a cast I cared more about than I thought I would given the complaints aired above.

I want another game loosely in this vein. I want Nintendo to invest in more SMT spin-off games basically :p.

Do another FE one, do a Zelda one, or whatever, but I want more and I hope they a) try to find and b) find a way to make that work for them all.

(Also, Persona-lite isn't a bad thing--I like the flow between simulation and RPG in Persona, but there is nothing wrong with balancing that more towards RPG while retaining light simulation elements. Also like the idea of more quest-like bonding events).

Probably the unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed playing TMS more than P5. I actually found that it being Persona-lite was a positive quality because it was very straightforward.

That being said, Persona 5 of course had the better plot/graphics/etc.

Straight-forward, and also keeps the hour count down.

I think it is an improvement over the pace of, say, a Persona 2 or Digital Devil Saga type spin-off. You have quick access to the next dungeon to crawl, but you also have a modest helping of fluff content to engage with.

I do like the more relentless pace of a mainline SMT, but I sometimes find myself wanting a bit more slack in the spin-offs.

Modern Persona turns that "slack" into a whole full-fledged and integral game mode, which really changes the way it plays. I enjoy that rhythm, personally.

But I also enjoy a less involved style of slack.

What I'd really want from a "sequel" in this regard is just better art, characters, and character stories still told in just a couple of side-quests a piece that are still more "quest-like."

Looking at the used game sales on COMG I finally realized why there was such a steep drop for Splatoon 2 last week. It appears likely that due to the bundles there is enough used copies around for that to drive attachment rate of new copies down. This week there is more used sales of Splatoon 2 than new copies being sold on COMG stores(28 vs 27) same with BotW(9 used sales).
If this is a larger tendency across retail chains its likely Splatoon 2 will remain around 50% attachment rate this week but Arms and MK8D will get the big boosts while BotW will possibly get a smaller one.
I expect that once these used Splatoon 2 copies get exhausted the attachment rate to rise again. In any case used sales will be something interesting to track in the upcoming months on COMG for Switch games. This week is definitely shaping up like a bigger week than last

Speaking on a more first time avenue, I wonder if Fifa for Switch will have a debut similar to PS4 Fifa or more/less.
Honestly I am expecting 8k but we shall see.
Also curious how the game did worldwide since it seems like it sold out in some parts of Europe.

I'd doubt the 1:1000 exact ratio with larger pre-orders. Probably a little less, and then it better matches YSO.

schuelma

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Well, certainly looks like a bigger Switch shipment at the comgnet stores given those numbers.

I forget, has the FIFA games become more popular now than Winning Eleven with regards to sales numbers (in Japan specifically)?

Edit: Nevermind, it's hard to tell with all the re-releases and LTDs according to Famitsu.

It looks like kiseki might have held? Good news if so .

I wonder if it's possible for them to outsource switch ports of the series.

Definitely, hell they've only outsourced whatever they've allowed to be on Nintendo systems after the SNES IIRC. Examples; Dreams Inc. did Ys Books I & II on DS, and Opus + iNPLAS did Gurumin 3D (which was commissioned by Mastiff).

Literally it's a matter if they will bother just giving anyone a call, nothing more. Wouldn't surprise me if a number of folks would jump at the chance to do Switch ports of Falcom's lot. Hell I'd bet Mastiff could carve a nice profitable niche doing just that and with retail releases to boot (even just at GameStop as they're doing with Party Planet).

From the looks of it, it will still be a decline from the PS3/PSV sum but just not as sharp as we may have guessed months ago. The audience transitioned well (or they found a new injection of interest).

Isnt Kiseki would at least decline by around 80k? As there is no more Vita to buff up its sales number? And this time, with how it dont have the first series on STEAM advantage, i had hard time seeing do better vs the 2nd Kiseki.

FIFA Switch isn't too promising. My guess is between 5k and 7k from the COMGnet and Rakuten numbers shown above.

Does it seem fair to say that while Japanese 3rd parties may do better on Switch, Western ones (like FIFA) may do better on PS4?

Though I admit there aren't a ton of good examples out yet to gauge such a thing, unfortunately. Did Puyo Puyo Tetris S outsell the PS4 version?

Looks like stock possibly isn't going to go back down this week. Amazon had a big restock today, with skus at ranks 1 (a Splatoon 2 bundle!), 2, 4 (both bundled with digital Splatoon 2), 7, 8, 10, 11, 27, 34, 37, 40 (Splatoon 2 bundle), 118 (Splatoon 2 bundle), 135, and 204 (Splatoon 2 bundle).

It's hard to say whether Japanese sell better on PS4 than on Switch. There aren't many comparisons and the PS4's situation at launch was very different. As for Puyo Puyo Tetris, the physical version of PS4 didn't chart, but it was just one of the many versions available (and also not a launch game for the system).

However, FIFA18 Switch is definitely having a worse launch than the first post-launch FIFA game on PS4, which is FIFA15 (16.719 copies / 745.126 units = 2,24% attach rate).

Looks like there still needs to be more data, yeah.

As for PPT though, there was what, 4 versions prior to Switch? Looking back it's true the PS4 version didn't chart (to say nothing of the XBO version), but I suppose for a game like that the 3DS, Vita, and eventually Switch versions are ultimately a better fit.

Here's Puyo Tetris S' Dengeki numbers for the most data we have:

11./00. [NSW] Puyo Puyo Tetris S (Sega) {2017.03.03} – 12,928 FW / 41,170 LTD

It's by far the 2nd highest performing version behind the 3DS version.

Makes sense honestly, it's a great game for Joycons (and I don't find myself thinking that about many games), and is great for portable play, as anyone who owned it on the Vita or 3DS can attest to. Getting together more than two controllers on a PS4 feels like something of a herculean task.

There aren't many examples, but Western 3rd parties better do better on PS4. Like, dang what.

And I'd say a good amount of JP 3rd parties multiplats will as well.

Depends on the game ultimately. I could see RE or MGS or Dark Souls doing better on PS4. Is the Switch port of Revelations already out or did I just dream that?

The Switch got the image of a ports machine because of a couple of big ports. I think we won't see a lot of ports anytime soon, and if there are some ports in the works, they won't get released close to each other. That's my guess, at least. I'd love to play those great last-gen games on Switch btw.

Edit: sorry for the double post; I should've edited my last post instead.

No, the Switch got the image a ports machine because people blindly believed literally every single "rumour" about the system. Nothing else. Ok, wishful thinking too, ha ha (guilty of that myself).

Smash, Splatoon, XCX never happened in the end, only MK8D and Pokkén Tournament DX did.

True, but there was also Fast RMX, and Splatoon 2 had a strong image of being more of a 'Splatoon 1.5', valid or not.

I doubt Fast RMX was even widely well known as a Wii U port to anyone that wasn't win I owners. It's mindshare simply isn't very large in the mainstream.

Why is it a problem, though? TLOU and GTA5 were the big games for the PS4's first year.

It isn't. But people liked to believe that the majority of games coming to Switch were games they had already played (or could already play) on other systems, regardless of whether that's true or not and regardless of whether that's good or bad.

Also, the Xbox 360 version of FIFA18 sold better in the UK than the Switch version on Day 1. (Source) Guess everything can be put in perspective. :p
