It probably did ok compared to those, but if you expected it to make some kind of difference for the Wii U, yeah that is unrealistic. Its a HD port of the worst selling 3D Zelda game.
It's far from being the worst selling 3D Zelda. In Japan Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword soll less than Wind Waker's original release, internationally both Majora's Mask (the actual worst-selling 3D Zelda game ever) and Skyward Sword sold less.

Special case. Because OoT. And even then, it's only in the middle of the list.
OoT 3D is also the first 3D Zelda on a portable and not only do a lot of people love it, but it is known everywhere as the Zelda game "everyone" has as their number 1. Well before I had tried a Zelda game I knew OoT was the game that came first in nearly all top X games lists. Doesn't help that WW HD doesn't look very different from WW.

Surprised Vita sales stayed so constant. Vita 2, MH or where the 10-20k sales it had for some time the anomalies?

Just understand that not so many copies of WWHD need to be sold to turn a profit.

If they were concerned about selling as much as you think they should be, then they probably wouldn't have even gone through with the release when contemplating doing so after reviewing the success of previous rereleases.

Definitely! As a pretty big Falcom fan, I'm happy for them. It wasn't the "selling twice more as the latest entry" kind of thing they'd been doing with the series for a while now, but it beats Ao no Kiseki's (PSP) first week by around ~10k by Famitsu numbers. Pretty much the same if you go by MC, but this time around there's also digital which ought to be a bit more relevant than on PSP, so all in all it seems that this is their best first week sales yet since moving to consoles.
Yeah and making it PS3/PSV was a great move.

06./00. [PS3] My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute. Happy End # <ADV> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.09.26} (¥7.480) - 31.054 / NEW
07./00. [WIU] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD <ADV> (Nintendo) {2013.09.26} (¥5.985) - 30.264 / NEW
This shit speaks volumes about Japanese tastes :p.

Those Zelda #'s are horrible seriously Wii u owners (myself included) especially those in Japan deserve what we get or what we don't get for our lack of support.

Where did this myth WW sold so bad come from?

For the GC these are amazing sales
It's like good ol' "Pikmin 3 sold in line with Pikmin 1 (never mind the fact that it came out barely one month after the GC itself though)".

It's also pretty much the last relevant release for the year outside of Mario/Tatsujin, considering how Sonic usually sells in Japan. Certainly not good.
Yep. I'm as much of a Nintendo fanboy as anyone, but this is just another bad piece of news for them. In Europe, Wii U is rapidly losing shelf space and isn't having anything chart in terms of software or hardware and in Japan, even the most notable of releases (W101, WWHD) aren't helping the hardware sales in the slightest. Mario/Tatsujin really are all that's left for this year, and I don't see how that's enough to make anything significant happen. I feel like America is the last semi-stronghold that the Wii U has.

WW HD bombed even worse than i thought it would. also pretty telling that it didn´t even slightly bump the WiiU sales.

Sorry but this logic is horrible. Nintendo would have never greenlit the entire Wii U if they knew how it would be selling. This game was decided upon before the system even released

Got your numbers mixed Chris.

How much did Falcom expect to sell, I remember seeing some crazy numbers. Fantastic debut for Kiseki, but it's going to drop like a rock next week.

This seems absolutely crazy to me, remake or not. Definitely expected WWHD to do better.
Are they marketing it in Japan to any great degree?

I've seen zero tv ads for it in the UK (despite the hardware bundle being released over here).

I think i heard it being said by GameTrailers, maybe they ment WW being the worst selling NA or something? Anyway thanks for the infomartion

Well
“It is the perfect time for Zelda fans to discover Wii U,” said Roger Langford, product manager at Nintendo. “For many Zelda fans, this is the first time that they’ll discover Wind Waker and we’re treating the game as a triple-A new release.”

Nintendo hopes the remake of Wind Waker can match the success of 3DS’ update of Ocarina of Time.

Langford added: “Ocarina of Time 3D performed positively on Nintendo 3DS and we’re looking to replicate this success with The Wind Waker HD.”

I wasn't talking about their console situation, sir. I was talking about software.
console situation is the only thing that matters when nintendo's plan was to release this collection of software to increase hardware sales.

I'm curious if the low Vita numbers are due to the impending release of the 2000. No doubt there will be a spike in sales when it's released, but whether it can keep up the pace after is the main point of concern. After all, the price difference is not significant.

At this point, only Super Mario 3D World has any hope of saving the Wii U over in Japan.
And a single release just isn't enough to build any kind of momentum. Next year looks bad too so far, so I doubt the Wii U will rise from its grave any time soon... Releasing a single noticeable game every three months (if at all) just isn't enough.

I imagine more people in the US have downloaded/bought the bundle based on eshop ranking/miiverse already than Japan, and it's not even out physically here. Definetly a series that appeals more to the west now, but geez those are sad numbers.

It's sounds logic if you understood the post.

Why wouldn't the Wii U have been greenlit after the success the Wii was?

What I am saying is that these rereleases don't need to sell many copies to be successful. Otherwise the "poor" performance of the previous rereleases would have discouraged WWHD.

I hardly ever see ads due to most of my watching being PVR recordings but I've actually seen quite a few ads for wind waker in the UK

I'm not sure why people are surprised at Wind Waker sales... I mean, its a remake of a 10 years old game on a console that sells like shit.

Now, for that >100k first week that someone was so sure WW would hit because it's a Nintendo title...

I can't help but wonder what current Wii U owners are waiting for. More Mario and nothing else?

They should quickly reskin Wii Party U to Mario Party U...it might sell then
That's how really dead system looks like - no hardware sales and apathy among owners who don't even care they own it and are not buying software.

Nintendo had one chance to relaunch system - Smash or Kart + 3D Mario + smaller games + serious price cut before this holiday season - they wasted it.

Lol, there was something I read, don't remember where, about them aiming to hit 500k. But honestly speaking, it always sounded really unrealistic, and I doubt Falcom themselves seriously considered such a possibility, given how well ran the company seems to be in general.

Also, it'll probably drop. Especially since I'm sure the load times debacle probably hurt it a bit. Then again, the patch is dropping tomorrow, so who knows. Ao did 15k on its second week, I wouldn't say it's impossible for it to end up outselling the 194k total it did.

To be fair, WW was never that populer in japan. Didn't the original do mildly as well over there?

In what world does DKCR and Mario Kart early in the year look bad?

I think it's a safe assumption that Wind Waker HD got greenlit once Nintendo realized that they have absolutely no games for the entire year. An HD port is something that can be pulled off relatively quick -- and that's just what Nintendo needed.

To be fair, WW was never that populer in japan. Didn't the original do mildly as well over there?

Same logic can be applied here, then. They only greenlit the game thanks to the success of OoT3D. Maybe they should have dug a little further down into their history.

In any case, this is only week one. Jumping to conclusions is not the brightest idea.
you need to get over sales of past titles and their decision making. the Wii U games released this fall/winter were set up to boost Wii U console sales. turning a small profit on dev costs of a game is nothing compared to recouping R&D for Wii U and all the money they'll lose the next few years if they don't sell the console more... like a lot more

every release that sells systems right now is worth more than just the profit it makes. wind waker HD has failed.

OP is wrong. Vita did 81k (93k on Famitsu) and PS3 did 67k (71k on Famitsu). He had it wrong originally, then swapped the PSV/PS3 around and forgot to change the numbers, lol.
Very happy for the Falcom guys if irrc about the sales of past titles. Also surprised to see it selling on Vita almost 30%more.

Is this the first time that a PS3/Vita game sells more on Vita?

But the price isn't changing, though? Is it?
Price is only slightly less. But the new models are quite thinner and lighter. They also come in new colors.

Vita 2000 couldn't come sooner for the Vita. On the software side, Sen no Kiseki did extremely well though.

Also, WW HD bombed spectacularly. 100k LTD seems well out of reach. Pathetic.

In the world where these are pretty much the only Wii U titles hitting in that timeframe.
Not to mention that we are talking about the same company that wanted to release Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Wii Fit U in the console's "launch window". I'll be amazed if Mario Kart will really see the light of day in Early 2014.
