Media Create Sales: Week 39, 2013 (Sep 23 - Sep 29)

My local Geo sold out of Pokemon pre-orders. Not sure how long stock will last on Day 1. Not sure yet when the second shipment is coming in. Some download cards left, but running low.

Storm's a'coming.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
If one looks at Amazon.co.jp, it seems that almost every 3DS LL model is back-ordered? Did Nintendo not plan their supplies accordingly lol? It's Pokemon. You gotta have the hardware to play the game.

Some colors are sold out, some are still available. Bic Camera is having more trouble, only the Pink color is in stock. Yodobashi and 7-11 have all colors ready to go.

Monster Hunter 4 on the other hand is sold out on all these stores since last Friday. :(

that wind waker system seller. I guess the average wii u owner are the folks that already have owned a gcn in the past.

I'm holding out minor hope that potential buyers are informed of the U bundles coming October 31. I know I'd be able to hold off on picking up a Zelda remake for a few weeks until that drops. In fact, I expect U sales to be especially pathetic for the next couple of charts because of this. If those bundles don't push the needle though...

Nintendo has quite a footing in France compared to the UK market.

In case you're serious, this is the correct bromide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromide_(Japanese_culture)

In some videogames you can get bromides digitally which are essentially just cards with character portraits on them. So in other words they're saying this is going to be a super low budget static image battle rpg.

Yep and even their the wii u has flopped hard. Good to see the 3DS software doing well!!!

Yep. They're going straight for the port, not even a remake first like they usually do. They're basically sending a strong message that DQ's future home is on smartphones.

Also, I expect the VII to be based on the 3DS version. And IV-VI to be based on the DS versions. What I'm now kinda curious about is the pricing.
I don't see how a port signifies more support than a remake.

I don't know if I am late at this but the reviews for this week have been quite specatcular:
Pokemon X/Y (3DS) – 10/10/10/9
Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) – 10/9/10/9
Rayman Legends (Wii U) – 9/8/8/9
F1 2013 (PS3/360) – 9/8/8/9
Saint Seiya: Brave Soldiers (PS3) – 8/8/7/7
Sentouchu: Densetsu no Shinobi no Survival Battle! (3DS) – 8/8/7/7
J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 8 Euro Plus (PSP) – 8/7/8/7

Source is nintendoeverything.com. How many games have pocketed a 39/40 in Famitsu history ? Not that it means much, we know that.

So, still shortages for Monster Hunter4, huh? Somewhat, I got the feeling the release of Pokémon X and Y is actually to make the shortages even worse.

And I'm quite looking forward to the new Media Create numbers. Looks like I was right when I thought the 3DS wouldn't drop below 100k/week until a few weeks after Pokémon X and Y... MH4 aftermath + Pokémon X and Y hype is really boosting sales for the 3DS.

I think a "storm" is kinda playing it safe when talking about what's going to happen next week (or rather, in just 3 days!).

You're right, it's not gonna matter in the slightest because Pokémon X and Y is gonna sell like hot pancakes with a generous amount of syrup on top anyway :p
And quite a few games got a 39/40 from Famitsu.

About the holidays sales bump, it'll probably start around late november/early december. I don't remember it starting earlier than that, though last year was a bit special with the release of the Wii U in early december. Guess we shall see soon enough!

"A few weeks after Pokemon X and Y" would be November/December when it would hit 100k regardless.

the most mindblowing story in these media create threads is that the 3DS will never reach the heights of the DS, even with the MH4/pokemon combo, the sellouts, the madness in this coming holiday season. Crazy

Markets have changed and some good percent of handheld gamers now use their phone to play but damn, it's not fair.

That's hardly "mindblowing", since we've known about that for months (if not years) already. The 3DS had absolutely zero chance to reach DS-era heights without the Brain Training and Nintendogs crowd. For those who had any doubts, the sales for the new Brain Training and Nintendogs clearly showed the casuals had already moved.

Well, I admit I can't really talk for everybody, but that's hardly a surprise to me, though it's true I wasn't expecting such a radical switch.

Yeah, I originally wanted to write "until mid-january", but settled on "a few weeks after release"... a bit too cautious I guess. It's certainly possible for the 3DS to stay above 100k for a long while, since the line-up for nov./dec. is quite packed. Guess we shall see soon enough!

Few months ago every such theory was dismissed by "3ds sold better than ds in the same time".

Not for sales in Japan. That sloppy argument was used mostly in NPD threads and it was Nintendo PR that really propagated it. 3DS was never actually ahead of DS in Japan.

True, but any sales-age worth its salt would've realised this was temporary, because the big DS boost, that sent its sales to heaven starting Christmas 2006,, hadn't happen yet (when comparing the sales of the two consoles).

It IS true though that Nintendo managed to get the 3DS back on its feet much faster than the DS, and this clearly showed on Western sales (more than Japanese ones). This is what led some people to believe the 3DS would manage to do better than the DS. Actually, it probably would if the Nintendogs crowd was still present en masse on handhelds.

Are Pokemon sales numbers today, or next week?

Pokémon X and Y haven't released yet, so no number today. We might get some pre-order numbers later this week, though.

Yup, it was mainly used a PR spin by NoA. They weren't outright lying, but it was clear they were not showing the whole picture.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
David Gibson spoiling the fun again via twitter.
Monster Hunter 4 sells another 165k in JP,total packaged now 2.7m, digital likely extra 10%+, 2.7m in 20 days versus MH3 3m in 19 days

MH3 went onto sell 4.6m but launched in Dec 2010 and MH4 is yet to see Christmas/New Year demand

Entertbrain - 3DS 118k sold, down from 140k last week. 3DS accounts for 84% of hardware sold last week. WiiU still struggling at 4k, PS3 11k

Enterbrain - JP retailers saying MH4 is still sold out, Pokemon X/Y already sold out ahead of launch and MH4 will benefit (users buy both)

Enterbrain -MH4 its sold/shipped ratio is 99.6% which means almost zero inventory at retail and thats almost 3 weeks after launch.

Holy Shit at that sell-through....ridiculous.
