I am probably really late to this: why is Phantasy Star Nova doing so poorly? Is it over saturation of similar games on Vita, a bad title, or not enough differentiation from PSO2? I remember last year there were higher expectations for it and it's positive affect on Vita sales, hence my surprise.

I think some point to PSO2 being more or less a free alternative and not THAT much different as being a key reason, that's certainly cannibalism of a series.

I don't remember it being seen as that good of a game either, but I'm not certain.

But yeah, expectations of Nova were very high (remember people saying it was by far Vita's biggest game? I do, now SaGa has that title I believe) and Explorers was always viewed as not a big deal and would likely under-perform.

My how the tables turned.

I think it's an exception ,Monster hunter find new player in handheld,God eater 1 was on PSP and God eater 2 on PSP and Vita know that God eater Rage burst will naturally buy the games on Vita the same for Toukiden.

PSN has done badly compared to its previous estimates......even after the realisation that it would perform nowhere near to how well PSP did. Certainly is a big fall.

Also I would have expected more from FFEX. For a FF in the hunting genre it certainly did not live up to that name. Its at 250k now. Is it even going to outsell Freedom Wars?

Did the quality of both of these titles effect their performance?

FFEX was clearly a low budget title from the start. Just look at it. Iirc some fairly unknown developers at SQEX were making the game. I'm sure that affected sales quite a bit and yet it seems to have been selling about 5K the past couple of weeks. It's already sold about as well as a lot of FF spinoffs on the DS.

Not including DLs Freedom Wars is at this: Freedom Wars 187,890 287,554 2014-06-26. Yeh it'll likely pass that at some point. Freedom Wars is also the 2nd best selling game on Vita, only behind God Eater 2.

If Ace Combat sold 25% of its shipment on day one, it probably means retailers got around 4,000 copies of that game, right? I can't see it not outright bombing, considering howthe original did back in 2012 :lol

I doubt people are waiting for the Vita game.

It looks like a very cheap, clunky game. That seemed to sell fine under the Samurai brand name, but as a new IP I'd imagine it needed a bit more promotion than it got.

Bit disappointed to see it bombing though. Between this and Kenka Bancho underperforming, and Conception/Zero Escape doing not great earlier in the gen, Spike-Chunsoft's original franchises don't seem to be doing so hot lately outside of DanganRonpa.

Exactly, it feels like the have announced the two games and nothing else was heard until launch. Of course there must have been some kind of promotion in Japan, but probably was not enough to generate interest. Vita game may sell a bit more, but I expect another bomba.

If you buy the vita version, which is 2000 yen cheaper, you get the ps3 version for free (download code), so yeah, I would bet most people are waiting.

Can't say anything about FFXV, but for DXI, Horii already confirmed they were targetting a 2016 release. I highly doubt there's any chance it's coming out this year.

I would think a >3,000 unit difference would cause one of the trackers to recheck how they check the Xbox One sales. On Media Create it would take ~10 week to even reach 48,000.

The last Minna no Golf that was able to cross the 500k mark is Portable on PSP between 2005 and 2007, thanks to the budget release. Otherwise, we have to go back to Minna no Golf 4 on PS3 in 2003, which cracked the million mark.

Well I still think that GT6 was the outlier of the franchise, though I don't know how the marketing for GT6 was in Japan, I still think that GT7 should perform better even on a smaller install base if the game isn't available on PS3 and this time has a proper marketing push. Though I may be delusional as well and I am just hoping that he series still has a future mostly because I really enjoyed GT6 and its constant support over the last year.

True, I forgot it got two reprints.

Anyway, unlikely a new MnG entry will sell 500k in the first year at this point.

Gran Turismo has only sold worse with each successive entry in Japan. GT6 wasn't the outlier. It was just following the trend.

Oh yeah I forgot that GT5 only sold better than GT4 if you count the GT 5 prologue. My bad. I guess then that GT7 really has no chance in hell to be relevant again in Japan, which I find interesting since GT lost popularity in America because of the 360 and Forza but it seems that in Japan the audience just evaporated.

Maybe Ace Attorney. The last new entry did like 600k.
