Wow at that Vita bump, the PS4 got a decent one two.

Glad to see DQB do well, looked great since the reveal and the Gaf impressions have been very positive from what I've read.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
The next big one for PS4 is definitely Star Ocean 5.

Okay so looking back to the PS3:

Street Fighter IV: 84,937 / 157,704
Super Street Fighter IV: 80,103 / 159,558

This doesn't strike meas a particularly large title.

Well, I think it will drive a healthy amount of hardware at least for its launch week. Lets be optimistic haha

Not that anyone is interested in this stuff, but FW > 100k games on Vita:

Interesting to see a Minecraft clone, having a considerably worse debut than a Dynasty Warrior clone, considering the latter genre declined quite a lot in the past years, while Minecraft got very popular. And the fact that there akready is an already somewhat established Dragon Quest niche due to last years release.
Just wondering, what in specific do you find interesting with it?

Also, didnt you argue before about overlapping in the PS ecosystem and that the PS3 was on its way out? If so, 2 vs 3 platforms shouldnt really matter that much in this case. I remember that you said that the PS4 numbers for Dragon Quest Heroes wasnt for the first week because of the bundles that were sold a few months earlier.

The west really drives it then, considering they are million sellers.

Edit: Yup, you edited and said what I was thinking haha

Sorry, I edited too slowly.

This is true. They're over 12 million worldwide now.

Back when they were 10 million, the breakdown was as follows: http://andriasang.com/comzmu/naruto_shipments/

North America and Europe account for most of this, with respectively 4.3 million and 3.8 million. Japan and Asia account for 1.9 million.

Given the numbers, the rest of Asia is bigger than Japan as well.

No reason to not combine them. The double pack simply contains two copies of the exact same game, so Soul Sacrifice sold about 136k first week.

April is also Dark Souls 3! But yeah, Uncharted 4 should be big too, even if its not japanese!
Actually, DS3 is March in Japan.

Games that could make a dent on PS4 for the foreseeable future:

February :
Naruto UNS 4
Valkyria Chronicles
Street Fighter V
Attack on Titan

March :
Gundam Breaker 3
Dark Souls 3
Star Ocean 5

April :
Uncharted 4

May :
Dragon Quest Heroes 2

Edit: and I do mean "make a dent", I don't know how many of these will open at 100k+. I guess DS3 and DQH2 will, no idea about the rest.

shipped 140k ?

anyway, despite the terrible word of mouth and the heavily price drop it's still charting, and probably last week performance is related to the last patch released

They did the major patch so Amazon upped the retail price, and it is still selling :D

I know. It's just not as simple as copying a one-line quote of the FW sales like I did for the other games :p

Suppose you could do something similar for FFX/X2 HD too, though I don't know how you'd go about that.

It looks like Koei Tecmo has decided to throw some money behind Toukiden 2 and make a title that looks like it came out this decade:

I imagine they will be giving it a reasonable push.

DQB with 80-100% sellthrough for all platforms, really nice numbers. I hope they bring this to the west :(

It all started when Sony lost MH and approached KT for overhauling Toukiden before release (back then it was PSP exclusive with different genre lol). After that DQH, DQH2 and Toukiden2 are like chain reaction.

Looks good!

Odds of this coming west?

Koei Tecmo even brings things like Arslan Musou over, so it assuredly is.

I think Oregano is right that it's made at least partially with the Western audience in mind given it's now an open world title to boot.

As we can see with Naruto and Street Fighter above, it's not necessarily the worst strategy in the universe.

Slight difference: Toukiden bombed in the West and the genre is not much popular outside MH. SF and Naruto are well-established properties in Western countries.

Good to know!

I may dive into the series for the first time with this one.

This is true. I'm certainly not expecting a 24:1 sales ratio.

That said, I don't think their actual product direction strikes me as something attempting to really double down on Japan than improve sales globally.

I could be wrong though. I don't have any business interviews with them suggesting that.

Sony/DQB domination
Wii U below 10k and Splatoon out of the top 10(still impressive sales).

Well, position is always going to be affected by how many new releases there are in a given week; this week there's eight new releases above Splatoon. I'd be very surprised if it's not back into the top 10 or even top 5 when we next have a week that's quite dry on new releases.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if DQB has similar or better legs, which might well compete in the long term.

I think it is more to pull what they can from the west and build the franchise. Toukiden isn't even well established in Japan.

I guess Pennywise was right about DQB's performance. I was doubting it hard and I still doubt its legs but we'll have to see. It really surged the Vita forward (those bundled retailer deals probably helped a lot). The fact that it seemingly sold all of its shipment matched what we'd heard, but even the PS3 and PS4 sold about all of their stock. Quite impressive.

Isn't DQB the first of many Japanese games that will get console sales going this year?

I don't think 8k in a good release week is much to write home about, in fact its low. Perhaps we're expecting some sort of maintained momentum and not outright return to norm next week?

DQB was (and should be longterm if it has legs) to be important for the Vita, not the PS4.

Okay so looking back to the PS3:

Street Fighter IV: 84,937 / 157,704
Super Street Fighter IV: 80,103 / 159,558

Did SFIV have like zero pre-orders less than two weeks from launch on our relevant trackers? The current non-existence of SFV is, even for the openings you quote, not what I would expect.

I would not be surprised if Street Fighter V does even worse. The traditional fighting game genre isn't exactly going in the positive direction in Japan.

You are right! Lets hope these flow of games at least keeps PS4 healthy in the weekly sales.
