Media Create Sales: Week 41, 2012 (Oct 08 - Oct 14)

I could easily see AC over 2 million by the end of the year

Yeah, in recent times AC may have suffered of some IP tiredness, but if we consider Nintendo is putting a lot of new features and contents into this one, that may easily turn out to be the best Animal crossing game to date and sell deservedly so.

As for Wii U, I don't know if they should even bother bringing AC on home consoles this time around, imo they may keep it a handheld game focusing on local-online multiplayer, unless they could differentiate substantially them as two different experiences altogether.

I thought both were quite good? And what happened with 7th Dragon 2020 (IIRC)?

BRS was garbage. Total waste of an IP. Poor / boring gameplay and horrid story.

The gameplay of 7th dragon 2020 wasnt all that great. The classes were not well thought out along with the skills. Story wasnt that good and overall just got boring.

All Imageepoch does these days is "style over substance".

That seems like a crazy jump.

Yeah I think for AC to come to the WiiU and be a worthwhile purchase they would have to design it to complement the 3DS portable experience.
Some form of Cross Play would be a good step, with a potential WiiU version serving like a huge online hub. An overworld that uses the social features of Miiverse (whatever those might become). I think it would work best as an eshop App to complement the 3DS version.

VITA needs games from CAPCOM/SE/NBGI. Depending on the current situation, it is almost certain that without SCEJ's effort, these companies will not jump on board by themselves.

From what I'm told, it's based on a TV show that airs as specials (rather than every week). The game's sales go up around the time the show airs.

I figured Bravely Default and Project X Zone would have done a bit better based on the amount of marketing both titles got.

What is this game and why does it keeps getting boosted into top 20 every so often? Seems like such a bizarre sales pattern.

From what I'm told, it's based on a TV show that airs as specials (rather than every week). The game's sales go up around the time the show airs.

Ah, that explains it. The game basically gets a huge free marketing boost every once in a while.

I figured Bravely Default and Project X Zone would have done a bit better based on the amount of marketing both titles got.

I thought Bravely Default was hardly marketed at all. I was expecting more out of X Zone. But BD seems to have sold a good amount of shipment.

I could definitely see Vita being in a DC/360-like situation, where it continues to get a trickle of niche/otaku titles for a number of years despite being irrelevant (if not outright dead) in the broader market.

If 360 sold in the US what it did in Japan MS would have pulled it in the first 2 years. And even though the DC got a trickle of random small games after it died, Sega did end manufacturing.

Project X Zone could have done a bit better indeed. Good, but I was expecting more 100-110k as a first week. Bravely Default, instead, did pretty good. Let's hope it obtains to sell through time ( at least compared to other RPGs).

Both true, but I don't see how either contradicts what I said. I still expect Sony to permanently end manufacturing in spring 2014 at the absolute latest.

Is Bravely Default likely to have legs once word of mouth gets around about the new series? (Assuming it's a quality game of course)

Also those Vita sales....Quite disheartening.

Edit : Question which has probably been askes a million times, but what's the reason that we don't have a service like Media Create in America? I understand we have the NPD which is vague, I'm guessing due to them selling the results. But why can't we have something nice like MC for us over here? :(

I think Sony should give up on Japan with the Vita. Push it in the west where it got a small boost from LBP.

Hahaha seriously? A boost from lbp? If you mean in the USA where it went up from 9k a week in August to 11k a week in September if you really wanna call that a boost that's hilarious

He's talking about in the UK and the Vita's "boost" from NPD was because of the Madden Bundle. LBP was barely out for the last reporting period. And Vita's "boost" in the UK isn't even worth mentioning. We have no indication the hardware is doing anything above terrible although it may have went from abysmal to terrible.

I figured Bravely Default and Project X Zone would have done a bit better based on the amount of marketing both titles got.

To me the game performed well enough that Square Enix should make their money back unless sales completely implode after this week.

That said, the much greater concern in my mind is whether they will continue the series. Vastly more successful series have been taken out back and shot by Square Enix, and these days they seem more risk averse than ever.

Well would you rather they do nothing? The game sold better in the UK as well IIRC.

He was referring to lbp boosting vita hardware, the only place we've had any vita hardware numbers for in thewest is the USA and the boost its had there lately is pitiful, as for the UK I would hardly call lbp sales there good and we've no idea how vita hardware has done lately except a fair guess that its been pretty bad

That's messed up.

How so? Saturn wasn't a train wreck in Japan like it was here, Dreamcast was the first console in the generation, and SEGA actually made good first party content that appealed to more than just Sony fans. The US comparison is probably even more lopsided since the DC a much stronger launch the Japan did.

Well the 360 version of Dishonored is an Amazon JP exclusive and whatever stock they had of it sold out as the next shipment isn't due until Nov. 2nd.

I saw a commercial for it when I was watching an NFL game (via nfl game pass) and I thought it looked interesting. I may pick up the 360 version myself from Amazon JP when they get more in stock.

This brings up a good question though: where did they get the numbers for 360 Dishonored sales?

Amazon does not give out sales numbers, so unless that policy somehow changed it would be downright impossible to determine the number of copies that sold, other than banned site-style guesswork out of the ass. Really makes you question the credibility of some of the lower-selling titles, and whether they've been getting similar treatment.
