More like "how do they keep selling with no lineup?"? I mean, the big holiday games haven't come out yet.

Edit: sorry, sarcasm meter broken :(

The next great batch of games is't out yet.
However, 73k cannot be considered low XD
Especially in October.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.

Also, yay for Go Vacation! Good game.

Don't really understand the high and rising 3DS sales with so little software sales going along with it. People upgrading from their old DS models?

3DS outselling all other consoles combined and then some. That's worrying.

But it barely outsold the rest of the field combined! I just don't know about this 3DS...

The 3DS is the new NDS, that's all.

The pink 3DS was released which is why hardware got a huge jump, unless I'm mistaken. Nintendogs also saw a nice boost in sales.

Strange to see the PS3 and PSP have so much software selling but the hardware sales don't really reflect that meanwhile the 3DS is selling ridiculously high off of little software.

PSP is done hardware-wise. It's old and overpriced compared to the 3DS (just like the DS) and Sony don't seem to want to drop the price.

They probably think that a cheaper psp would harm the Vita and wouldn't stop the 3DS momentum in any significant way.

Market saturation, which has already affected wii for few months.

To be fair though the software numbers are pretty low all around.

Damn, PS3 looks saturated at this point in the lifecycle, at least at the price it's at now. Looks like the $250 drop just wasn't enough to inject new life into it. wonder when the $199 will come.

I am telling you, 3DS is gonna explode in December.

And to all Amazon naysayers:

Retailers (update by Chris) said:
Macross and Naruto significant drop comparing to previous entries, Go Vacation, Tetris and Deus Ex almost zero movement. Pink 3DS has high sellthrough.

Analysis based on Amazon rankings said:
Macross will be the top seller by a wide margin. Go vacation will continue to sell though. Dead Island will be dead next week.

At least the 3DS has more than 1 game in the top 20 this time around. Still, it's insane how the 3DS can sell 73K units and it's top selling game only nets around 7.3K.

The 3DS is seen as a new cheap DS model, and it shows. It's eating into DSi, DSL, and DSiXL sales, with no unique software sales of its own. This must suck for Nintendo because they are taking a loss with each 3DS sold, with no software sales to make up for it.

I don't even want to imagine the scenario outside of Japan.

Well this is one way to spin the rise of the 3DS as a negative.

I think low hardware all around except for 3DS are especially a consequence of the period.
October is usually the period where hardware goes really down compared to other periods of the year.
Even PS2 had its slow period in October, with 30-35k as highest results.
Then, DS came...and in 2006, 100k per week in October happened :lol
Instead, the average 3DS had this October, even without considering this week, is MASSIVE, 50k per week.

3DS games are competing against the huge DS library. It will take a while for this to change.

Yeah, just calling it how I see it. The PS3 and PSP are relatively flat y/y, the Wii and 360 were halved, and 3DS+DS is up ~700K units or about 25% so overall Nintendo is moving more DS hardware but the software for 3DS and DS doesn't show it in the least.

I think the DS was already pretty dead before they dropped the price it just went from selling 10 K to 5K when Nintendo dropped the price. I don't think it's as significant. Also wasn't the 'selling the 3DS at a loss' quote proven to be ambigous or mistranslated. I remember some controversy that the way he worded it didn't mean they were selling it for a loss but that it was pretty close. However, I never remember what conclusion was drawn.

Market saturation, which has already affected wii for few months.
That's what I figured. Just strange to see all year round the PSP and PS3 boasting pretty good software sales but the Hardware never exactly matched up. Good thing the both of them are boasting good software sales unlike when Wii hit market saturation.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Impact nice! The day when Naruto is more popular than national sports. Hopefully this means CC2 will continue the series on PSV.

At this rate 3DS might hit 3.5mln end of year.

Your analysis is very short term based, it doesn't paint a grim picture considering what's to come. Much of what you're saying will be mostly meaningless once the holiday season hits.

The 3DS is the cheapest priced system in Japan as far as i know, even cheaper than PSP and DSi.

It will, it might sell 1.5mil in the five weeks of December alone.

The 3D race starts to become really interesting. Although the new color didn't reach the heights of the introduction of the Red Flame DS in 2005, it does quite well and could potentially sustain its sales for the weeks to come. For record:

Media Create August 8-14 2005

Hardware:
NDS - 103,095
PS2 - 37,041
PSP - 25,100
GBASP - 19,958
GCN - 3,799
GBA - 708
Xbox - 202

Software:
1 NDS Jump Super Stars 220,912
2 PS2 Winning Eleven 9 102,048
3 NDS Gentle Brain Training 46,873
4 GBA Mushiking : Battle of the Beetles 36,309
5 GCN Pokemon XD 34,108
6 PS2 Medal of Honor: European Assault 33,361
7 NDS Brain Training for Adults 30,518
8 PSP Gundam 28,460
9 PS2 Grandia III 27,378
10 PS2 3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha 26,567

That week was the first to record insane sales on the DS hardware front. I hope we'll get one similar peak with the launch of Super Mario 3D Land bundle.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Im pretty sure Iwata is somewhere in his basement crying and praying for lower 3DS sales.

i didn't know that. it's just natural that people go for the newer version then, since it's backward compatible. explains the low 3DS software numbers.
