Media Create Sales: Week 42, 2012 (Oct 15 - Oct 21)

Nintendo announced today Jam with the Band for 3DS. What's the state of the franchise?

[NDS] Daigasso! Band Brothers (Nintendo) - 32.272 / 164.166 / 19,66% 02/12/04
[NDS] Daigasso! Band Brothers DX (Nintendo) - 122.183 / 496.930 / 24,59% 26/06/08

I didn't see this coming...

Iirc this was one of the biggest hits on NDS during its early life, but remains to be seen whether this will be able to replicate the success of its previous installations, as we've learnt from Brain training that the market has changed since.

Had no idea DX sold that much. Those are pretty amazing numbers.

Err, there's a lot coming out in Japan. It would certainly help the appearance if Level-5 didn't drop their last 2 years of development all within a few weeks, lol.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Considering the rest of the year is packed, I think you're talking about next year.
There are many titles incoming in 2013, and many of them confirmed, or almost surely, coming in the first half

Monster Hunter 4
Professor Layton 6
Magical's Quest
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Luigi's Mansion
Tomodachi Collection
Jam with the Band
Dragon Ball
Vanguard! Card Battle
Magi RPG
(maybe) Guild 02

Some of them have been announced right before TGS, and there are other titles so vague right now which won't probably be out during the first half ( Yokai Watch, Kaioh).

It's just that they need to be dated. And there should be other announcements in the next future, even low profile ones ( recently, there have been announcements like the game adaptation of a certain anime / manga called "Rhythm Style" or something like that and the porting of Elminage Gothic).

The game is published by L5 though.

So only Koei Tecmo and Kadokawa publish at cheaper prices so far. 3rd parties often have higher base prices than Nintendo, even at reduced prices they're more expensive than the Nintendo titles. I guess they offer the lower DD prices to be more competitive.

L5 apparently doesn't think that's necessary. Not a good trend for consumers at all. It isn't a game you need to have on your 3DS for daily use either.

I hope the other larger publishers will give the adjusted price model a chance. The games are still more expensive than Amazon this way, it's just a way to be less of a rip off.

And Capcom. MH3G on DD will cost a little lower than the budget version.

Speaking of which, Dragon Ball Heroes Ultimate Mission will probably be fully revealed soon. There's a Dragon Ball Heroes festival commemorating the game's 2 year anniversary on November 4.

Hard to say if that will sell any large number as it's a port of a Data Carddass game and Dragon Ball isn't the hot property it once was in Japan. It'll probably benefit from the marketing the new Movie will get.

I think I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but 2012 is momentous for Dragon Ball video games in Japan. It's the first year in about a decade where a new one isn't released in the country. The west received Dragon Ball Z for Kinect, and the Budokai HD Collection. Neither have been announced for Japan.

Free Goku hair holy shit

It's like a Burger King crown. For some reason they printed QR codes that unlock stuff all over the back of it, lol.

Idolmaster Shiny Festa Groovy Tune on PSP seems to be selling well. Apparently sold out at one Sofmap in Osaka (second shipment due soon), and there's a fair bit of discussion about it being sold out on Twitter.

http://blog.esuteru.com/archives/6700777.html

This is why Bandai Namco still has PSP games scheduled for mid-2013.

but doesn't this sink the Vita ship even more into the depths of the ocean?? everyone avoids Vita like a pest, they should be releasing games for next (current) gen already.

I've always said it, it is in the own interest of devs/publishers to help keep hardware alive, since it is there where they can subsist, having the "sorry, your hardware hasn't sold" mindset will bite them in the ass as options and platforms start disappearing.

they can keep doing games for PSP but once that is gone and Vita dies a premature death (if it does), they'll only have nintendo like in the gameboy days.

Is Bravely Default still hard to find? Seems sold-out again on Amazon.
It'd be a shame if it will lose sales because of supply problems. At least there are no important releases on 3DS until Animal Crossing, so it will have some room for improvement.

And that's one of the main reasons to have digital versions, even if they are overpriced for what you could find in a store (if you could find it in a store). Don't think SE did a digital version with BD:FF, though. Maybe for BD:FF2.

Scamco, Capcom, Konami especially, etc are all investing in other mobile platforms such as iOS, mobage/gree. At this point they have no need for another handheld platform.

Media Create top 50 is up. Little Battlers W PSP 44.87% sellthrough, Vita 56.30%.

Eww, normally I'd say this is not the end of the world for this type of game, but in this case it might actually be just that. I'm not even sure if the 3DS could get the franchise back on track. I just seems fundamentally mismanaged.

MH3U out of the Top 50, did they really have to announce the Best Price that earlier? :/

36./38. [3DS] Little Battlers eXperience: Explosive Boost

LOL Some people bought the wrong game.

3DS iteration is still selling despite being a third ri-edition of the same old game, so..let's wait and see.

The Vita copies aren't going anywhere, lol. The PSP ones might continue to sell in the run up to the movie, and may benefit from some kids getting the One Piece bundle for the holidays. But yeah, the way Level-5 has handled LBX has been horrible. I've never seen a new IP so young be managed this poorly before. It was getting milked before it even got a footing.

What are you basing that off? Surely, the devs could just start putting their games on the Vita, no? Maybe I am wrong. What are SCEJ doing though??

The costs associated with developing on 3DS are closer to PSP than Vita is. 3DS also is much closer to the PSP's install base than Vita is.

As for what SCEJ is doing, well ... They're making a bunch of partnerships with third parties, but unfortunately they're the groups that aren't exactly full of blockbuster must-haves. I'm also suspecting they may be offering a PSP -> Vita development kit based off of LBX W's near machine-like Vita conversion. They need Vita to be cheaper, and they need it to have big name games. Killing PSP isn't going to guarantee either.

What are you basing that off? Surely, the devs could just start putting their games on the Vita, no? Maybe I am wrong. What are SCEJ doing though??

PSP's main system seller is on the 3DS for one thing (big lesson from PSP to Vita, you can't have all your eggs in one basket if that basket is third party and theres a bigger basket available for them to fill which will look overall more appealing to the customer); Nintendo has quite aggressively expanded into Sony's traditional market - making up for some of the older DS owners who I suspect have in some cases moved onto the new devices in the market place.

Add PSP+Vita - it hardly makes a success story. Its 3DS levels before the price cut and is in decline. Vita is providing no growth and has shrunk Sony's market share considerably.

PSP buyers will see 3DS as the better platform (and comparable to the PSP in terms of content, except with added Nintendo); whilst third parties will follow the userbase and development costs and go with 3DS.

One thing I find curious is that 3DS hasn't gotten any 3rd party MH clones yet and indeed all those games seem Vita bound instead (Ragnorak Odyssey, God Eater 2, Lord of Apocalypse, PSO2, Valhalla Knights 3). Is SCE actively courting these sorts of games (beyond Soul Sacrifice) since they lost the genre king or is it really happening to just work out this way in all these cases?

Really surprised SE and BN haven't jumped and tried something yet. Toriko 3DS going turn based JRPG seems like a missed opportunity.
