Publishers have no obligations to save failing consoles, especially at the cost of profitability. Your argument would work with every failing software ecosystem in existence, but there's little purpose outside of western focused products.

I am certainly not claiming that publishers should do that, just saying that with a different library, those faster horses would do much better and that it is therefore not the only factor that plays in their current demise. Besides, 3DS is also just a "faster horse" compared to it's predecessor.

Yeah, you're definitely right about that. That's why it's not performing as well as the DS.

Faster horses don't fly in Japan nowadays.

That's because the 3DS isn't the DS which was unequivocally the most popular game playing device in Japan, that title is now held by smart phones and the level of support shows it. If smart phones didn't exist, the 3DS would likely be receiving better support than the DS did because the Vita is most certainly not the PSP. The Japanese industry isn't floundering it's simply changing. If you combine the 3DS and smartphones it's probably more popular than ever.

I feel like Nintendo is more forward thinking with their hardware than people are giving them credit for. The cross-platform idea that they'll likely go with should be really important.
They really aren't. If they were forward thinking, much of this cross-platform stuff would have been in place for the 3DS and Wii U.

Maybe Next Generation..when sony actually convince rockstar to release GTA vita...
There won't be a next handheld generation for Sony. They'll segue over to some sort of Xperia smartphone / tablet support instead.

I was generally talking about future prospects. I feel like they might be going down a path that's worth pursuing. Basically, I'm hopeful.

There haven't been hints as to what Sony/MS will do.

The ironic part in this behavior, is that smartphones are now also very "iterative" and just going for a "faster horse" approach on a regular basis. But at least it's a mandatory one and Japan is more after the "one" device that will do all for them.

I don't really expect it to make more than 40k at the very best for 18 days...

It is released the same day as Mario Kart bundle, so there is chance there.

Expected Bayonetta 2 to be out of the top 50. Fatal Frame seems to have a small audience, seeing regularly more fanart.

It is released the same day as Mario Kart bundle, so there is chance there.

True, didn't think about that. I expect the game to have good legs this winter, it's just that I don't see it doing really good.

I went to Shibuya today. And I checked Tsutaya's store.

As I expected New 3DS XL is sold out there too. I guess the new shipment will come tomorrow (Saturday), but I think XL hasn't been restocked yet this week.

I guess we know why New 3DS is not releasing in the West: Nintendo couldn't even make a few hundred thousand in time for Japan.

As for new 3DS continued sellouts and restocks I don't think Nintendo wants to flood the market with big shipments before remaining stock for old models starts to disappear.

I'll stick with this theory for now. It appears there are still good amounts of unsold old models and hype for new titles helps selling them even with revisions out. I expect big shipments for new 3DS LL during holidays (and maybe Smash special edition)..

For those that already made their predictions, aren't you overshooting for Captain Toad?
I don't really expect it to make more than 40k at the very best for 18 days...

I think Captain Toad will outsell Fatal Frame & Bayo 2 fairly easily (aka over 50K). The Wii U has a ton of family friendly titles this holiday starting on 11/1. Like someone above said, it also releases the day of the MK8 bundles, so I could see folks picking up the brand new game alongside it.

11/06 Japan The LEGO Movie Videogame (keep in mind Lego City sold about 74K by the end of last year thanks to its legs. This will be the second Lego game in Japan)[/B]
11/13 Japan Susume! Kinopio Taichou (Captain Toad)
11/13 Japan Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundles

11/19 Japan Monster Hunter Frontier G6 (Premium Package)
11/20 Japan Fujiko F. Fujio Characters Daishuugou! SF Dotabata Party!
11/20 Japan Taiko no Tatsujin: Tokumori

11/27 Japan Gotouchi Tetsudou: Gotouchi Chara to Nihon Zenkoku no Tabi
12/04 Japan Kamen Rider: SummonRide

12/04 Japan Watch Dogs
12/06 Japan Dairantou Smash Bros. for Wii U
12/10 Japan Pac-World 2
12/18 Japan Sonic Toon: Taiko no Hihou

There are about 10 bolded things that I think are family friendly and could help the Wii U at least with those audiences in the holidays. I figure Smash, MK8 and Toad are going to be the main beneficiaries of that.

Damn at the low software numbers after the top three. That is pretty sad.

edit

The number 6 game is at 4.4K. That is just terrible.

so at this rate yw will hit 3m before the expansion comes out, by a good few weeks too, thats just insane.

oh and i hope bravely default sequel improves on the first game's numbers, need se to work on an rpg for the 3ds that isn't the usual dq/ff

Powerful Pro Baseball 2014 is selling better than the last year entry. PS3 is the main, but the Vita version has a better sellthrough.

Low sales too for Super Hero Generation.

Looking at that schedule it feels more like Wii U is Bandai Namco's console.

Impossible. Its missing the best Namco games out there: Tales of Zestiria, Tekken 7, Digimon, Naruto, Dragonball etc

I still don't understand why Namco doesn't release Naruto & Dragonball on Wii U at the very least.

They gave up on bringing the IP on Wii even if the first two entries sold reasonably well (150k and 90k units), to migrate over PS360, where Japanese sales of the IP weren't much higher.

I guess we know why New 3DS is not releasing in the West: Nintendo couldn't even make a few hundred thousand in time for Japan.

Now? Even without shortages in Japan, launching not one, but two new models in three markets at once during the holidays is some pretty risky business. That's no wonder they preferred to wait for 2015 before releasing the N3DS in the West.

And on top of that, they probably have some stock left to sell in NA/EU.

Heh, no wonder. Tales of the World looks like one of the blandest SRPG I've ever seen. Seriously, I'm sure even the cheapest, most bland, most uninspired SRPG on smartphones doesn't look as bland as this game. And since they never bothered releasing than one Tales of (a remake) on the 3DS, audience probably isn't there... not that I'm convinced regular Tales of fans would be interested in a SRPG anyway...

Cool to see there's finally stock again for the XL, hopefully sales pick up during the week-end.

Anyway, thanks for the info/pics everyone.

I still don't understand why Namco doesn't release Naruto & Dragonball on Wii U at the very least.

Audience is not there. Western sales are important for these series as well. Naruto games are million sellers yet sell <200k in Japan. In fact UNS3 has shipped 2 million. 1 million NA, 750k in EU and 250k in JP.

A better question is why isn't Naruto on PS4 yet.

I'm very curious to see how Pokemon is going to perform. With Yokai Watch being super popular and the series dropping a bit in sales with X/Y, I wonder if it'll be able to break 3m.

It's funny how Abyss sold twice, or almost twice, PSV remakes. Imo, Bamco should have directed those remakes straight to 3DS, and build the "handheld" fanbase there. Reve Unitia won't do much being a pseudo-porting of a mobile game, but I do think it can still pull around 70-80k units.

Just noticed the Google Play page of the game and...the game is just between 10,000 and 50,000 downloads? And it came out on July 2nd, 2012...as a temporary Android exclusive? And it was a free to play at launch (now, there seems to be a -very small- price)? ...Why didn't Namco release it on iOS as well, day-and-date with the Android version, and not months and months later?

Considering they have only shipped 1.3 million 3DSs worldwide during first two quarters it's pretty weird if they still had so much stock left in west. Just how big overshipment that holiday season was last year.

Yeah, audience is not there. Sure.
But for One Piece, it seems to be. Stange, isn't it?

They seem pretty bad at this. It's disappointing because the Tales franchise has pretty popular characters, so something like that should actually be able to make them a lot more money if the right amount of effort.

It's not that it sold much better elsewhere. But OP fanbase is mainly on PS3 and 3DS.

I know, it was a late port from the 3DS game (released together with the PS3 and PSV versions which still sold better). But yeah, considering that this was the only One Piece game on Wii U I wouldn't say the audience "is there".
