Down or up, Vita will sell about the same as last year.
Pretty much, yeah.

Basically, it survived, but everything Sony did in 2013 was futile.
They didn't really do a lot though, did they? Released Freedom Wars, and, um.... ignored Minecraft?

I'd say it's stayed up in spite of their efforts, not because of them. Still, it could have been far, far worse. As next year will demonstrate.

I don't know. I'd actually say those numbers are good (even if I was hoping for better numbers, to be honest...still), considering this is the 4th week on the market for the new version + old 3DS stock still being sold (it didn't drop almost at all). Moreover, I think New 3DS XL dropped more last week because this week there's this

Releasing this Saturday

I expected more too hence the "not so good" numbers. It's down comparing the same week last year and unless it's supply constrained or people are waiting for a bundle (smash bros) or a game (Pokemon ORAS) that boost the numbers I don't think these numbers are good (the YOY gap is increasing and should be decreasing with 4!!! 3DS in the market)

The Vita YoY tale will be told over the next four weeks, I reckon. That 120k buffer is nice, but it's sitting around 10k, instead of the 30k from last year. Then you've got the 90k week 46 looming in the distance, which will eat a huge chunk of that buffer.

My goodness, it's edge of the seat stuff. Gripping.

what is this YoY thing..?

can you do that with your Vita..? if so then I understand why you like it so much.

Year-over-year. The 2014 numbers compared to 2013.

I couldn't bear to let my Vita leave my hands, so the yo yo thing wouldn't work. I'm like Edward Scissorhands, but with sexy handhelds instead of blades.

Last years numbers saw a big boost due to first Monster Hunter 4 and then Pokémon X / Y, both first main entries for both franchises on the platform. Last year's Week 44 was the third week after its release, so there was still its influence on sales. They weren't "normal" 3DS sales.

Wonder how much necromancy the mk8 bundle will be able to pull on the wiiu. I'm assuming knowledge of the impending bundle is half the problem? The tiny portion of people actually interested in the console know it's better to wait a couple weeks?

...It sold half than Z ~Kagura~ on 360? Welp.
It sold better than the Wii chapter, though, right?
I can't find the numbers for vorteX and Revolution on geimin.net, so it's possible that they did worse than Z2 ~Chaos~.

Thanks, mao2. So it seems we have a bomba here. :(

Damn, I love the series, I hope D3 will continue it.

Also, please don't call it OneeChanbomba, my heart can't take it otherwise.
Sorry. OneeChanbara series never really sold much, even on PS2, so I think it'll be fine.

This week:

PS3 version seems safe, and I don't think it will need major price drops.
On the other hand... PS4 version is dead.

Sales overall not bad I agree but I expected better legs. 91% drop in 2nd week is just awful.
Well, word of mouth has not been good. I think the game has done pretty decent for itself, and given the quality, I don't think it's all that sad or surprising that it didn't do much more amazing numbers.

Why no comparation for YW?
Also I want to see a Phantasy Star Online 2 comparation in that list too.

(Thanks for the rest)

What's happening with Call of Duty and PES 2015?

It's had an unusually big marketing campaign for a western published game and the shipments show they expected more than what it's doing.

In a vacuum those are not awful numbers for a new horror IP, but you can bet Bethesda is disappointed with the performance.

Comparisons for YW2:SP will start next week, when it'll be one month before its releases.
PSO2? I think I could do that next week too :)

About Call of Duty and PES: eh, it's true that there's also PS4 SKU to consider this time for both, but it's also true they've yet to enter top 20 on Comgnet. Let's see what happens next week.

They should have realistic expectations and try with a better game next time.

So Smash Bros for WiiU is going to flop in Japan.

So if Pokemon ORAS fails to boost 3DS HW like Pokemon X/Y did then it'll be because it's a remake? And you're telling me that Pokemon has more influence in HW sales than two revisions? Uh?

I'm sorry but it seems like a poor excuse to me. The only good excuse for these numbers would be if it's supply constrained. Maybe hiska can check it and tell us if that's the case.

Not entirely sure how the pt thing works, but looking at that would that mean that Smash U has more pre-orders than Mario Kart?

Pretty cool numbers... I like how EOU2 seems to be doing better than EOU.
Smash Bros. should have decent FW.
Youkai Watch 2.5 is out for blood already.
Pokémon is doing well, though I'm really surprised pre-orders are so different between Japan and NA/EU (where they're better than for Pokémon XY).

It's too bad we don't get mobile numbers as Japan still loves games.

I attempt to keep up and at least try the biggest Japanese mobile games when they come over to the West, and have an extensive 3DS collection, and I feel when going hands on with this stuff it's not too hard to understand what happened in Japan overall.

On the mobile front, major iOS/Android games are pretty regularly getting to the point where they resemble pick up and play games from the DS instead of incredibly dumbed down tap to win titles.

Puzzle & Dragons, Quiz RPG, Terra Battle, Monster Strike, and (judging by videos) White Cat Project all feel like things that could have been released on the DS and been well received there. I would actually go so far as to suggest that if these project released in 2008, they would have all been DS games and point to Pokemon Trozei, Puzzle Quest, or Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes as good examples of exactly that. Something like Terra Battle wouldn't feel especially out of place relative to a battle heavy but mechanically more deep game like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or Advance Wars either.

The vast majority of these games also include the big boss fighting, monster collection, co-op, and/or RPG progression elements you see in popular handheld titles as well.

On the 3DS front, we now also have a system that's basically capable of doing whatever the PS2 could and sometimes more. Monster Hunter was originally a PS2 series; Smash, SMT4, and 3D Land could have easily been console titles of that era (or even later). We even have games that actually encapsulate the SNES RPG experience like Bravely Default, instead of the watered down handheld RPGs we sometimes get.

And all of this happens before I even start to cover the content that's notably unique to these kinds of platforms instead of the audiences they simply absorbed from other platforms.

Now, there are some niches that these platforms don't cover, but they're exactly that: niches. At some point if the vast majority of the gaming audience can get all or nearly all the experiences they want by having a smart device and a 3DS (or for some, only one or the other), then why buy anything else?

Puzzle & Dragons, Quiz RPG, Terra Battle, Monster Strike, and (judging by videos) White Cat Project all feel like things that could have been released on the DS and been well received there.

I have to agree here.
Playing Terra Battle, it definitely feels like it could have fit well as a DS/PSP era title.
Solid game.

More pre-orders than Mario Kart 8, and the most pre-ordered game for Wii U so far, according to other retailers blogs. Yeah, it's going to flop hard.

I think it could well be the first (and maybe only one?) game to reach 1m without a bundle, in Japan.

Also I want to see a Phantasy Star Online 2 comparation in that list too.

Couldn't you download the PSO2 client for free, with the retail version just being a collectors edition with some in-game items? Don't think a comparison makes too much sense there.

I might be wrong though.
