Ah, i have no idea about this specific game. I was mostly thinking about multiplatform games in general for handheld :)

I didn´t say they won´t support any other plattform but looking at their lineup they obviously are concentrating their resources on 3DS right now, while for Vita we only know about a PSP/3DS port so far.
True. It is probably too early to know much about potential Vita support from Level 5.

You guys are waaaaaaay too serious.
Honestly, it's scary how many replies you can get just from going against the grain.
In the Nintendo lineage, DS and Wii were major revisions while 3DS and Wii U are minor revisions. That's the long and short of it, and you will see the results in the sales.
I'm not hating on Nintendo, just saying how I think it will pan out. Nintendo's golden years were GC and GBA SP for me, but everyone has their own favourite period.
Why are you using Mpl90's style of line/paragraph formatting?

...I knew there was something familiar in his recent posts!!!

@saichi: Eh, I know it will be difficult, but it could do it if hardware sales are high enough.

It's very early in the life cycle of the platform, so it has a great possibility of establishing the brand in a very good way on the platform, and to make the platform grow its install base, and 3DS' growth will bring good sales for the game.

About the brand itself, The Ogre's result showed me that there's still a very high interest for the brand, at least for now. More than 400k with a 170k first week for an expansion of an RPG game came out something like 5 months earlier...are good. Neither Level 5 expected it :lol

It's true that Ogre's been surely helped by Holidays and the Movie just came out, but it's also true that these factors will be again present for Go (the movie is on 22nd, one week after Go's release ).

It'll be very interesting to see IE's perfomance.

However, poor Ninokuni :(
Maybe it'll gain something in the weekend, even if it's on PS3 (PS3 has gained some mainstream attractive in last months, the increase in software sales are a good showing of this), but still :(

So third parties had their shot, but Zelda, Pokémon Rumble, and now Mario have made up the difference.

not holding my breath for this. Would take a miracle to make Inazuma 11 into a million seller again.

This version? Maybe. Ever again? I don't see why that would be so unlikely.

I feel like people are exaggerating IE3s decline a bit. Inazuma 2 had great legs that carried it into the holidays where it got a huge boost. IE3 was released earlier in the year, had a bigger opening but worse legs, which is normal once a franchise has grown more recognition. And instead it got a third version for the holiday. Even on it's own IE3 is very close to a million and with the third versions it's well beyond IE2's sales. And yes combining numbers may be cheating, and we can only speculate many people bought several versions. But it still feels rather likely that more people have played IE3 in some form than IE2.

So using this to predict that the series is doomed to suffer a steady decline with each installment seems rather hasty. I know it happed to Layton, but there are plenty of other franchises that has enjoyed consitently good sales, or gone up and down a bit and managed to turn around a downward trend. There's also a chance that the platform jump could breathe new life into the series and any number of factors that could pop up for the next installment to suddenly give it a popularity boost

Chris1964

Sales-Age Genius
IE3 didn't have such a big decline from 2. It's in the territory of 100-150k drop without counting the Ogre.

It got some big discounts because of the initial overshipping but I'm pretty sure 2 had the same fate after a while.

Anyone have an approximate budget for the Ni No Kuni games?
It seems like an artistic undertaking of that magnitude would need to move a lot of copies for the vested interests to be in the black, let alone break even.

Studio Ghibli probably charges a bit more than your average animation studio, but the animation budget is split with the DS game, which probably still made a healthy profit even if it didn't perform as well as some would have thought.

Other than that I don't see why it would be much more expensive than your average console RPG. I still don't think the PS3 version looks particularly great.

Famitsu this week was nice enough to provide some post-2000 Mario sales numbers:

Super Mario Advance - 219,551 / 887,505
Super Mario Advance 2 - 113,183 / 919,234
Super Mario Advance 3 - 95,596 / 526,458
Super Mario Advance 4 - 105,813 / 718,207

Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. - 63,894 / 1,280,158
Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. 2 - 52,705 / 365,456

Super Mario 64 DS - 120,062 / 1,217,587
Super Mario Sunshine - 280,610 / 789,989
Super Mario Galaxy - 256,341 / 1,017,287
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 337,569 / 1,003,763

New Super Mario Bros. - 865,024 / 6,211,327
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - 936,734 / 4,310,920

Super Mario All-Stars Special Pack: 300,919 / 915,131

Super Mario 3D Land: 344,698

------------------------------------------------

Just a cursory glance at all of these makes it hard for me to agree with Jonnyram that Mario 3D Land will struggle to hit a million... We'll see, though. I still say 2 Million is in the bag for that one, in due time (could be awhile from now, but I think it'll get there).

That said, a few shops Famitsu polled mentioned that they expected more out of 3D Land's sales, but that they should pick up as we head toward the end of the year.

huh 3ds is still doing well over there. Wonder if Tri G will boost the sales even more. Any big wig titles coming out at vita launch that will sell systems over there?

It isn't really a surprise 3DS is doing well, and of course MH3G will boost sales to heaven.

No system sellers for the Vita though.

Ok, this is the...14th-15th million seller for Wii.
Strange that cvx didn't notice that!

This shall be interesting to follow over the November-February period! There's a lot of heavy hitters on either side over these months!

And it seems that Ni-No-Kuni PS3 is Level 5's first legitimate bomba. A shame, but maybe the sales of the DS version (and its subsidised animated FMV sequences) can help cushion the impact.

Did Donkey Kong Country Returns get to 1 million?

This please! I'd love to know its Ltd!

Not yet. Famitsu had it at 928K at the middle of the year, when it was still showing up on the lists in March-May it was doing 3-5K/week, and it must be doing less since then as we haven't seen it in the Top 30 again.

Really?!? I'm sorry, I'll check it out later XD

@ Nuclear: DKCR should probably reach the million mark next year, since, as Joshua said, it disappeared from top30 at half of the year, and this means doing a maximun of 3-4k per week. It'll grow this Holiday as almost every game, but I don't think it'll be enough for reaching the million already before the year ends.

How would have been crazy years ago to think about a Retro Studios game selling...500k, not even a million? :lol

Add me to the group, Namco couldn't select a more confusing name for this game :p

One thing: no reports at all about new PS3 colors? I thought they would have had at least a decent impact on hardware (let's say a 10-15k of increase from last week).

It's definitely this year's "S game". That's what I call the late October or early November release that has an initial slowdown but a second wind in late December, creating a sort of stretched S shape when looking at LTD growth.

Possibly the final PS2 game to release in Japan, no new games scheduled now, and only one budget re-release scheduled.

But...isn't Kirby Wii an "S" game as well? :D
Much more than Epic Yarn, no?

You don't think Kirby's Return to Dreamland is gonna be that game, considering other Kirby games have?

Bad wording on my part to make it seem like there could be only one, but yeah. There are actually a lot of late October/early November Kirbys that could've gone on that earlier list, but I figured I'd stop at two. Epic Yarn included.

Konami is the only big company that hasn't done the full transition from DS to 3DS, now that Gigant Battle 2 is out. They have a new Power Pro Kun Pocket and Magician's Quest for DS this December. But next entries will move to 3DS 99%.

It started this gen being on PS2 and Wii, with the former still having the lion share of audience. But then, the Portable entries started doing great results, even 400k for one of them...and with PS3 gaining momentum, they decided to concentrate the series on both PSP and PS3, as they were already doing with the serious Spirits series.
Series that has never appeared on a Nintendo platform...until the 3DS came out.

Maybe, next year we'll see another three-platform-multi baseball game, this time with the Big Heads?

What notable games were even released on DS in all of 2011? Thought all developers moved on way beforehand. I can only think of Nora and Devil Survivor 2.

Yeah also skipping around old threads, seems like Dragon Quest Monsters Professional and Kirby Mass Attack came out in 2011 as well.
