Not a bad hold for Switch, Japan is its region and a proper Pokemon game has yet to be released on it, never less, Dragon Quest XI.

I know one is a month older, but wow at Luigi’s Mansion selling more than Call of Duty.

It is good, but eating in the sales of 3DS, look at Switch + 3DS sales YoY for the month for example, Switch has to fill the gap of the sales their portable consoles line used to make plus the sales their main console drove home. Right now there is still a deficit if you sun the two. Inevitable with hybrids maybe and Nintendo should spend less to develop a successor (single line of R&D) as well as to develop handheld as well as main console software (especially once they stop making titles for 3DS, but they are already not big budget costly titles)

Highly doubt the 3DS is getting a direct successor. Nintendo has been slowly and subtly setting the Switch up to take its place. Don't bother with that Furukawa quote either. That's a typical canned PR statement they always give.

Looks like Labo Variety Kit is Charting again. Not in the top 20 yet, but if it returned to the charts, then that must've meant new shipments have arrived, and should bode well for its holiday performance.

Exactly my point, part of the lower ales Nintendo enjoyed with separate and successful handheld and home console lines are offset by three things:

1.) Reduced risk: yes, you can sometimes have Wii + DS and sometimes you can have Wii U + first year of 3DS level of sales.

2.) Reduced marketing R&D cost as you are introducing and developing a single line of products every few years instead of two.

3.) Reduced software R&D as you have a single OS and SDK to develop, evolve, document, and support as well lower cost developing a single line of software. There is a downside to the latter: it is not a trivial constraint to learn and adapt to as a single title cannot optimise around a single platform and style of play and making things universal and adorable to different modes and styles of play either neuter the game (worst of both worlds/minimum common denominator) or adds complexity. Sometimes 4 different simple solutions are better than a single universal one (much simpler concise duplication of code than complex branchy difficult to evolve, test, and debug).

With my lack of business experience I think that it would be a horrible move. Right now a 3DS successor can provide nothing of interest for the consumer that the NSW can provide. More power? Relatively useless. Cheaper? Switch lite would be a better choice. Dual screens? I think there are software solutions for minimaps. Catalog? At the cost of reducing the catalog of switch.

Personally I think a Switch lite version would prove more interesting for both consumers and nintendo. A 100% portable console, lower size, more battery, not detachable controllers (but with the possibility of connecting wirelessly any switch controller) and no dock option to make it cheaper.

One SKU vs two SKUs? Actually, it's more interesting that the pro is doing non-pro numbers these days.
That's because Pro got a price cut like a month ago and the Slim didn't.

I know one is a month older, but wow at Luigi’s Mansion selling more than Call of Duty.
Luigi's mansion sold poorly because the 3ds is now dead. Luigi's mansion 2 back in 2013 sold 1M copies lifetime and I think 300K first week. Also FYI CoD is doing very well for JP. It's currently tracking to be the series' best selling title.

It looks pretty bleak in japan for the main consoles...and I though it was bad with the wii u part of the era...it seems since the 3ds fell nothing really ever took its place

Only successor 3DS needs is portable only switch variant imho. Hybrid part is probably rarely used in Japan so cheaper price and longer battery life would be nice improvements to it.

Pretty much. Switch is still a long way from 3ds sales hardware wise, but software sales are good and Switch will eventually have some price drops to help.

They don't track digital right? I didn't know Tetris Effect had physical until I just looked it up.
Nope no digital. Famitsu tracks download cards sold in stores and Famitsu has some digital estimates they give each month (but keep in mind these digital numbers aren't as accurate as the retail ones).

I didn't realize the XboneX finally passed 100,000 units sold in Japan. That's something.

Yeah, that would make sense because there are so many Japanese people on the leaderboards. I reckon that half of worldwide Tetris Effect players are Japanese, and this game has definitely sold well.
Certainly more than 5000 Japanese players on the rankings for sure.

Cant wait for last week's numbers. Apparently Pokemon Let's Go is selling above Pokemon X/Y in the US according to Matt Piscatella on Resetera. Pokemon should sell above 2 million imo if those numbers are correct.

Also in case others weren't aware Matt works for NPD so he's got real data. That's awesome if it's doing better than X / Y

USA doesn't mean Japan. It's not like there is a hidden multiplier.
Yet, I hope you are right and it's a signal for them to stop going in the XY/SM direction and they return back to the exploration of the first games.

Pokemon Let's Go performances outside Japan is better than what I expected. In Japan, it definitely will be one of the worst core series performers.
