Sony seriously need to pumped out more IP. They should make a true Patapon game, not a hunter-game masquerade as Patapon that is Patapon 3.

[PSP] Patapon - 90,101*
[PSP] Patapon (PSP the Best) - 31.056

[PSP] Patapon 2 - 106.823
[PSP] Patapon 2 (PSP the Best) - 9,901*

[PSP] Patapon 3 - 157.644
[PSP] Patapon 3 (PSP the Best) - 9910

* indicates Famitsu numbers, otherwise they're Media Create.

If there's ever another Patapon game it'll be somewhat like the third.

Not actually that important
Between the Vita TV and the God Eater 2 release Vita has taken the spot as the truly and only hardware king in Japan.
If this trend continues I think that Sony can make a huge comeback in the portable market, maybe still not surpassing Nintendo this generation, but setting the market to do it easily in the next.

Meanwhile, WiiU's decline continues and we're at a holiday period, NSM3DW hasn't even charted in the top 20, and for the first time I fear that the console can't turn it around to at least some decent levels.

As a fan of Nintendo I must admit that Sony has taken the crown both in the home and in the portable market, at least in Japan, and I seriously fear that 3DS could end with the same third party support than WiiU.

This has got to be a joke post. It's the most ridiculous shit I've read on MC threads all year, and we've had the likes of meteoVs.Nintendo in here for god's sake

Edit: oh, troll post.
Well, to my defense we're on page 12 by now and his name wasn't greyed out

WiiU is still dropping. Why?
Because it is a terrible console

Nice to see it's more and more about hard facts...

Thanks for the info Aqua, but why are you posting about 11/4-11/10's sales on the following media create thread?

It's from Yahoo. They post those rankings one week later.

Also, i don't know why people are jumping on vita. It did a great week and the best in a long while. Is it because of vita tv? Yes, but who cares? If it's selling well, all is good. Wiiu also did a good week, considering it could've been worse. This week is surely going to be better, so let's rejoice. 3DS was actually the only one who did bad, again, considering expectations. But i still think it may sell more than the last year. It's all on Pazudora hands.

Also, the digital sales of wii party u are pretty underwhelming. It was the first on the rankings of the week it launched, but at the second week it was already passed by DQX. Also, it still didn't manage to enter the top 20 all time, so what you see on those rankings are pretty much what it is.

The important thing is we're all friends here, and keep the fighting to speculations about numbers and stuff

Persona 5 is going to be the bomb no matter where it ends up! Get hype!

As the platform with the greatest commercial potential in the region, it makes sense to put their eggs into the 3DS's basket. The problem is handhelds are losing share in Western markets to smart devices, Western developers have never been particularly interested in them (and you have studios like Ready at Dawn moving out of the handheld "ghetto"), and their target demographic skews younger and so isn't necessarily the ideal audience for certain franchises.

Hasn't mobile had a much larger impact in Japan? The 3DS is behind the DS and the PSV far behind the PSP that sold as well as the PS2.

Checking Yodobashi and One Piece 3DS XL caught my attention, looks like the special edition is selling well.

Refreshing after so many bundle bombas (MH4, GE2, GB, etc).

An experience bomb :p
I have my doubts. :p

Sammy Critics: What Persona can learn from Shin Megami Tensei?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Other than some nicely decorated 3D environments to dungeoneer around, the Persona games just seem to offer far far more than what I feel is the ye olde limited world of 2d art flipping around for dat cheap budget feel. SMT4 was bizarre in that its overworld looks delightful but everything else is at total butt level.

So no idea where you're coming from on it being better than P4.

Back to sales, I've plopped 3D World at 160k (Bump WiiU to 38k maybe?), and I think I'll pop Lightning Returns at 380k but it'll probably beat that. Can never get a handle on just how many Lightning nuts there are out there that wanted this train to push on to a third fucking stop.

Huh. Guess I was being 100k too generous then. I'll pitch down to 280k. The damage they've done to this brand in one generation... just wow.

Still no idea what to make of 3D World closing at 70 in comparison. Next weeks gonna be a pretty fascinating look at the Japanese home console landscape (ie: fucked).

Strongly disagree. 2D First Person battles are classic. I hate how people compare it to persona's 3D battles and claim superiority presentation wise. SMT IV's battle scenes were slick.

When we get the actual numbers of orders Sunday night we can probably do a better comparison.

The pictures from the LR launch event were so sad and lonely.

Come on, share the fun! ;)

@ Sammy : which MH4 bundle are you talking about? The OG bundle?

And yeah, I forgot about the One Piece bundles, should be interesting to see the impact on 3DS sales in next week's MC thread.

This is just one hardcore focused store, but Azalyn's store shipment were:

FFXIII-2: 90 (PS3) 5 (360)
LRFFXIII: 45 (PS3) 0 (360)

And for the two thousand people who didn't notice it:

vitatvael7t.png

Famitsu also made a an article about Vita crossing 2 million, where Vita TV sales are separated: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201311/21043492.html

I hate they're gonna be combining both. Famitsu has really gone downhill in the past year.
Protip: This is actually a case of someone being entitled.

Top 3 Vita games:

God Eater 2 - 258,826
Persona 4 Golden - 250,037
Toukiden - 225,422

Also (for the two people who check it once a month) I'm doing an experiment, putting up static pages for each system on the website:

Since this is as good of a place to ask as any:

"I never stick to the project document when we're making games," [Level 5's Akihiro Hino] told Famitsu magazine, "which usually attracts a lot of ire from people around me. But I think you need to put in the elements that gamers think are fun, regardless of whether that showed up in the spec sheet. That won't necessarily be what you think it is at first, after all; you'll realize later on that 'oh, it'd be a lot more fun if it were like this'. If you don't work that way, I don't think you can create great entertainment. I hate working strictly by the spec sheet."
Source: http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/21/5...no-on-how-wonder-flick-links-up-consoles-with

Is not deviating from the original design document even if the game would be better otherwise actually like a common thought process in Japan or something?

Games changing heavily in development is usually standard operating procedure in other regions, and Nintendo is also famous for using this technique to reach their quality bar (see "upending the tea table" quotes and more), so I was wondering if thinking this was a bad thing was unique to Level 5's lower-tier staff or if this was actually common in Japanese development.

If you do have an incredibly low budget I could kind of understand going "We don't have enough money to change anything even if this is mediocre or poor," but getting angry when you do have the resources just struck me as kind of bizarre.

Not that I want to take what Hino says and extrapolate it to everyone, but we don't see a lot about Japanese development processes in English so I thought someone here might have that knowledge.

Wow, I thought the game had bombed way harder than that. I guess I got confused with the US where I think it opened at 5k or something.

Kojima seemed to be endlessly fighting his japanese staff back in the day, asking them to put in features only to have them turn around and say "its impossible". Then one disastrous generation later and a publicised flagellation of the original Rising fail-crew and maybe he has them in line more.

I've seem similar "please dont make us do this" stuff from other japanese development peeks and it feels pretty weird at times.

Isn't holiday shopping season started in December due to New Year Holiday, not November? Anyone who lived there clarified this. I just know this from Kobo-chan lol

Holiday season starts this week in Japan. The 23rd is a national holiday, and from that day christmas boost starts. So next week we'll see the first mini boost for some evergreen games, and every week will get higher until the end of the year.

This is actually really interesting, cheers dude.

It's also quite depressing for Wii U and Vita, lol. I wonder what the first title to break a million in Japan will be for each console?

I assume Mario Kart for Wii U, unless 3D World does better in it's first week than is being predicted.

From current software and if things don't get better, both console will never have a million seller in their lifetime.

Smash could have made it for Wii U if it was exclusive I guess...

No, there really isn't.

In the same way there was no way the brand new Theatrhythm title was for 3DS? ;)

Seriously, this is going to be on PS3/PS4, 100% sure of it. Persona's audience is on PS platforms

@Sammy: Thanks! :D
