Media Create Sales: Week 46, 2016 (Nov 14 - Nov 20)

Mario Kart, Splatoon and Dragon Quest as guaranteed games for the Switch gives a bit of optimism for Switch at least for its first year.

And what's with your tag? Lol

I dunno about Japan these days I admit those titles sold well enough on Wii U
but enhanced ports are not easy sells. I want Switch to do much better than Wii U and PS4 I would like it to do 3DS numbers but I feel Nintendo would need to retire the 3DS and force the move to Switch they can't continue to put games like Smash on Both and Hyrule Warriors on both that type of thing...

my tag is really old and I like it, it is better to have Bish give you a tag that way it stays around for good then to have it changed all the time

I don't think the question is will Switch dominate the japanese market. It certainly will. The question is that can it replicate the sales of 3DS. Japan is still so important market for Nintendo that selling more than competition is not enough for them if as a whole sales of the console will trail 3DS by decent amount. We kind of saw this with early 3DS sales. For example Sony would have been completely happy if PS4 had started like 3DS in Japan. For nintendo it was not nearly enough and they were forced to make huge price cut and eat the losses. With Switch we have again handheld costing at least $249. We shall see how it goes this time.

Nice.

Should be interesting to see if FFXV can keep PS4 ahead. FFXIII and PS3 Slim is a tough fight though.

I think they said that the first bump is the price cut and the second is holidays/FFXIII. PS3 still has 2 aces. PS4 only holidays/FFXV. It should fall behind.

Retailers don't stock something when they don't see value. VR is literally a dead peripheral for software, what's the point stocking such an expensive thing if the only profit they can get is from the peripheral itself. Big retailers may afford to do it expecting future benefits but smaller no.

Pro is just an expensive version of something the majority won't choose over the cheaper. Next year after holidays, when initial hype dies, will show where Pro will end comparing to Slim, a second or a distant secong choise.

I thought I made it obvious about my position when I added Wii U in my post. I don't believe for a min that PS4 Pro or PS VR would sell more than Vita TV or PSP Go.

I can't wait for Sun Moon numbers during the holiday season since the n3DS will be $99. Go, Pokémon, go!

It doesn't look like there will be a lot of stock for the $99 N3DS, which is too bad because I think hardware sales could be high.

On topic: The 3DS has been strong this year. Positive momentum is good for the Switch, but yeah, it shouldn't stay strong for too long if we want the Switch to be successful from the start. I'm getting flashbacks of the PSP outselling the 3DS for a bit in 2011.

"if" more like "when" it outsells them

Why "when"? I don't think causality is going to end up getting violated at any point where FFXV or DQXI travel to a point in time before Splatoon had already outsold their LTDs-to-be by a large margin.

Final Fantasy 15 and Dragon Quest 11 havnt been released yet, so it could only be "when". Splatoon cant outsell something that doesnt exist yet :)

Severe drop for PS4 Pro, although I get the feeling everyone is ignoring DJ Mizuhara's post.

PS4 Pro just like PSVR is totally sold out in every store I've been to.

Also this one.

As I know from my friends in Japan.
It sounds like the Pro sold out almost everywhere and especially SEA here.. still unable to find one with very long queue.

Is there some website to check this ?

I mean, they exist and have sold zero units. :p
Thousands of games have sold more than FFXIV and DQ11 combined, huge flops so far confirmed ;)

Seriously though, i know what you mean, just wanted to say that "when" is right since it needs to actually happen first :p =)

I'll say it one last time, COD is doing terrible.

Outselling Battlefield 1 seems nearly impossible, it even seems like it won't be outselling Overwatch by a big margin either.

I don't think using Japan as an indicator of Pro catching on is a good idea.

I'm so confused by the messages above. Do people not realize how much the Pro costs? The state of Japan? Come on, people. Forget rocket science this isn't even basic algebra.
Yeah the people commenting really are out of touch with the reality of Japan.

Nintendo will be happy seeing the Pro struggle. Sony have increased the cost and difficulty for Japanese Devs bringing games to the Sony platform by creating two systems and a very top down policy on support. Japan developers will continue supporting PS4 while bringing support to Switch.

Nah, it's mutually beneficial. With the Switch making ports easier for developers and the extra power, titles that would have been exclusive to the 3DS are more likely to see PS4 or PS4 + PC ports.

PS4 has already blown all of its "cards" to keep up with the PS3... in an era where said PS3 was competing against the Wii. The PS3 should (and very likely will) pull well ahead in the coming months.

PS3 was competing with DS, PSP and Wii and was a distant 4th at sales, 3rd at software support.

PS4 only real competition is 3DS and is a distant second at sales, 1st at software support.

This is the first generation the leading system didn't get the prime support from third parties in Japan.

Japan developers will continue supporting PS4 while bringing support to Switch.

All I'd like to see is the Switch being able to run PS4 OG games.

Assuming the switch is at least a moderate success and the PS4 remains stable, we may see an enviroment in which japanese devs/pubs would be willing to take more risks with sequels and new IPs, They could put their "risky" games on a both consoles and reach more gamers.

THAT would do a lot to help the video game business in Japan but I am not holding my breath.

Dragon Quest is doing exactly that if I remember correctly. By the way, is switch getting the 3DS or the PS4 version??

Alot of the japanese "PS4" games are just ports of PS3 or Vita games, Switch should be able to run those no problem. Stuff like FFXV i wouldnt get your hopes up for.

Also we dont know what version of DQ11 Switch is getting.

Not sure why people would expect the Pro to sell more than the non-Pro. Or even half.

And that applies to both Japan and the western market.

Right, I don't agree with the thought process behind Japan developers going one way or the other. I mean, some will for a multitude of reasons but I would figure the majority would cover as many bases as possible. Look at how things are now in Japan with hardware and software. Why wouldn't they want to support as much as possible?

Maybe Switch will get both versions of DQ.

The only thing Japanese developers won't support is Xbox but PS4 will continue to get the majority of their support and to a lesser extent(albeit not much less) the Switch and PC.

[3DS] Yo-kai Watch Busters: White Dog Squad / Red Cat Team - 127.057

Yo-kai Watch sales in 2016 so far: 1.979.003

[3DS] Pokémon Sun / Moon - 1.905.107
[3DS] Pokémon OmegaRuby / AlphaSapphire - 174.841

Pokémon sales in 2016 so far: 2.079.948. Not including the Virtual Console rerelease as to not make it unfair.

Finally, Minecraft update.

[PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition - 1.153.287
[PS3] Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition - 355.000
[PS4] Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition - 353.914
[WIU] Minecraft: Wii U Edition - 344.701

[ALL] Minecraft - 2.206.902

I presume Nintendo know that all these enhanced ports are there to fill gaps in the early schedules and not to replace bespoke titles that the Switch needs.

Stranger things have happened though.

How does MGS5 compares to MGS4?

Also, I am very happy for Persona 5.

Japan still sees the base ps4 as a luxury item and is happy to continue buying used ps3 games for the most part. Or at least that's my impression.

I'm personally weighing upgrading to a slim to fix the eject button issue, while worrying that I might lose the fan lottery. I sit a few feet away from my console ...

(Anyone with slims able to comment?)
