...Eh, opens lower than Wind Waker, just like the first Galaxy opened lower than Sunshine, however. Still 200k in its first week, shouldn't be SO bad.

However.

04./04. [3DS] Super Mario 3D Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.11.03} (¥4.800) - 61.710 / 560.960 (-1%)

I think 3DS will be over 200k with the launch of Mario Kart 7.

19./19. [WII] Wii Party <ETC> (Nintendo) {2010.07.08} (¥4.800) - 13.756 / 2.036.622 (+61%)
Wii Party already sold more than 2 million.

14./13. [WII] Kirby's Return to Dream Land <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.10.27} (¥5.800) - 19.527 / 255.566 (+5%)
18./17. [WII] Just Dance Wii <ACT> (Nintendo) {2011.10.13} (¥5.800) - 14.013 / 230.268 (+12%)
Some Wii titles got a bump.

Level-5 just can't catch a break these days. Sigh. It's been a good run Hino, but maybe it's TIME TO RETIRE! ROFL!
How long will you continue doing this, because it's get funnier and funnier with every consecutive post!

For people interested btw, Twilight Princess opened with 139,011. It being a launch game however, makes the comparison less than optimal.

I think it was pretty clear that SM3DL was going to get a near launch sales push. Especially since 3DS harware sales were comatose before the price cut. It is one of the few must have games for the system currently. Wonder how long it will take the game to pass Mario 64 to claim the title as the best selling 3D mario.

I remain confident that Mario will hit a million by the end of the first week of January. It looks increasingly like it'll reach the magic number a week ahead of that!

Next week will be amazing.

I think Zelda is a pretty interesting case study in terms of how there's a huge sales divide between the east and the west. With console Zelda games becoming bigger and more complex 3D adventure games with more emphasis on graphics, the series has become more popular than ever in the US. On the other hand, in Japan the sales have really started to take a serious dip. At the same time though, it is not as if the popularity of the series itself is completely dying. With the DS entries they have sold really well in Japan, but the design doesn't seem to resonate well US audiences as well, resulting in lower sales of these titles compared to the console versions in the US.

PS Vita is launching on 17/12, one week after Monster Hunter Tri G.

WAT. This I did not realize!
I'm really curious what effect MH will have on the 3DS/Vita dynamic in Japan.

I wonder...what are the chances MHTriG's opening outsells the Vita's debut?

It's a very interesting divide. I wonder if Japan prefers the Windwaker aesthetic of the DS games over the modern aesthetic of the Wii games, or if they prefer the top-down style to full 3D worlds.

Only one way to find out! New Legend of Zelda time!

Skyward Sword is a pretty nice compromise, though. It's a midpoint between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess: it's got the lightheartedness of Wind Waker, with the more grounded plot; the chirpy, upbeat melodies, with the dramatic orchestrated boss pieces; and a lightly cel-shaded, cartoonish look – without being too cute or too "mature."

This is clearly Nintendo's attempt to closer align sales between the regions. Zelda usually has nice legs, often selling around 3x its first week sales. I guess we'll see how they've done in retrospect, once the holiday and opportunity for word of mouth have passed.
